Chapter 913 Top Club

In 2011, Tempo Entertainment's total box office in North America and the world was second only to Warner Bros. It ranks second, and is no less than any of the six majors in terms of strength. However, Tempo Entertainment is still not a member of the top Hollywood clubs. Only by entering MPAA in Hollywood can it be called a top player. There are only six top Hollywood players, which are the six well-known six film companies.

Whether it is the DreamWorks led by Spielberg or the Weinstein Pictures, which is a success in the Oscars, they are not members of MPAA or a member of top clubs. No matter how famous they are, they are just second-rate characters in Hollywood. Especially the Weinstein Pictures, which is in charge of Harvey, caused the Weinstein Pictures to be in conflict with the Century Peak, which led to the Century Peak wearing Disney's shoes many times in the Chinese market, causing Disney to suffer great losses. Disney took its anger on Harvey and put small shoes on Harvey's movies through MPAA many times. For example, "The King's Speech" was divided into R-level and "Blue Valentine's Day" into NC17. Harvey repeatedly bombarded MPAA for this, and even sued MPAA.

In the history of MPAA, there was only one who was not a member of MPAA, but in the end, Disney was the only one who won the MPAA seat. In the 1950s, due to the loss of theaters and the impact of popular TV, the eight major Hollywood companies fell into trouble, and Lei Dianhua went bankrupt. Disney rose at this time, so Disney filled the vacancy left by Lei Dianhua.

The reason why joining MPAA is so difficult is that MPAA has an unwritten rule. All decisions of MPAA must be unanimously supported by six major companies. Similar to the United Nations' principle of unanimous agreement. In recent years, several countries such as India and Japan have been clamoring to obtain permanent seats, and they have also convinced some of the five major countries to support them in joining the Standing Committee, but they have never been able to handle all countries. For example, if Japan wants to join the Standing Committee, China will definitely reject it. Similarly, it is easy to convince two or three of the six major countries to convince two or three of the six major countries, but it is difficult to handle all members.

Dingfeng Entertainment has many difficulties in getting a MPAA seat, but it is not that there is no chance, because Dingfeng Entertainment is backed by Century Peak and the huge Chinese market. Now the North American and European film markets have long been stagnant, and the number of viewers is also declining year by year. The rapidly expanding Chinese market has become the hope of Hollywood. However, the Chinese market cannot be entered just by just wanting to enter, and there are many restrictions. Therefore, Hollywood needs people who can help them speak in China, and Century Peak is the best candidate. The "Memorandum of Understanding on Sino-US Films" is the best proof.

Among the six major Hollywood stars, Fox and Century Peak are allies, and the two sides have good cooperation. Fox absolutely supports Pinfeng Entertainment to join MPAA; Sony Columbia and Paramount also cooperate with Century Peak, and the relationship is good. They support Pinfeng Entertainment to join MPAA; Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. Although they have a fair relationship with Century Peak, they do not have to offend Century Peak in this matter. More importantly, after Century Peak joins MPAA, they can help everyone speak in China, and they will benefit everyone, and they will not stop them; the obstacle that will really prevent Century Peak from joining MPAA is Disney.

Because of the release of "Space-Time Warrior", Century Peak and Disney had a conflict. Disney made many small moves against Century Peak, while Century Peak retaliated against Disney in the Chinese market. Later, both sides realized that it would be of no benefit to everyone, so they both decided to withdraw their troops. In 2009, Disney planned to acquire Marvel, but just when Disney was about to start the acquisition of Marvel, Century Peak took the lead and took Marvel into his pocket. Seeing that Dingfeng Entertainment has been in great success in North America with its Marvel movies in the past two years, Disney naturally hated Century Peak to the core, and it was simply a dream to make them vote for MPAA.

However, Zhang Ran believes that there are no eternal enemies in the business world, only eternal interests. The contradiction between Denis and the peak of the century has long become a thing of the past. As long as Disney can see the interests, it is entirely possible for them to vote for it.

In order to get rid of Disney, Zhang Ran met with CEO Robert Eiger of Disney Group.

Robert Iger is a China Communications Network. He came to China in 1979. At that time, he was still working for the ABC Sports Department. China had just opened to foreign companies. By the time he came to China again in 1994, he had become the chairman of the board of directors of ABC and opened for the Disney cartoon series "Little Dragon Club". After that, he was responsible for the Disney City Disney project, and traveled to China many times, and even dealt with many leaders of the country.

Regarding such a Chinese communication, Zhang Ran spoke very directly: "There are many contradictions between Century Peak and Dinis in the past, but that is all over, we should look forward. Century Peak and Disney can cooperate in many fields, and we don't have to fight."

Robert Eiger nodded slightly: "Everyone is a businessman. The most important thing is to make money, not fight. There is indeed a possibility of cooperation between Disney and Century Peak."

When Zhang Ran heard Robert Iger say this, he said: "Pingfeng Entertainment wants to join MPAA and become a member of the top club. Pingfeng Entertainment has the ability and qualifications to become a member of the top club. I asked you to come out today, hoping that Disney would support us in this matter."

Robert Eiger said calmly: "You are right. Peak Entertainment has the ability to become a member of the top club, but why should we support Peak Entertainment to join MPAA? What are the benefits of Peak Entertainment to join MPAA for Disney and what benefits will it bring to us?"

Robert Eiger's words are very direct. It is okay to ask Disney to support Peak Entertainment to join MPAA, but Disney will benefit from it. If there is any benefit, Disney will definitely support it. If there is no benefit, then see you again!

Zhang Ran took a sip of the coffee and said slowly: "The Memorandum of Understanding on Sino-US Movies" is only valid for five years, and it will need to be renegotiated in five years. Disney and the entire Hollywood need people who can speak in China. This time, the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Sino-US Movies has made great efforts. For example, the Peak of the Century is no longer required to be a starring actor, but it has been changed to hiring one-third of the employees, which makes it easier for Hollywood movies to obtain the identity of a co-production film and then take it.

To a higher share. According to the Memorandum Agreement, the share share of Hollywood movies in China has increased from 13% to 25%, but it is still lower than the global level of 40%. If we can join MPAA, then when China and the United States renegotiate in five years, we will try our best to convince the government that it is not impossible to increase the share share again on the basis of 25%, reaching the level of 40%. A movie can increase Disney's income by tens of millions of dollars!"

Robert Iger knew that Zhang Ran was talking about the facts. Five years later, the Memorandum expired and the negotiations restarted. Someone really needed to speak for Hollywood in China. However, this is the interest of the entire Hollywood, not Disney. He hoped to gain more reasons for Disney from Zhang Ran, and said without comment: "Is there any?"

Zhang Ran's eyes flashed and said with a smile: "Last year, Sony had a movie called "The Battle of Los Angeles", which is a science fiction film about alien invasion. During the script development stage, in order to please Chinese audiences, Sony changed the alien landing location from Los Angeles to the Magic City, and even changed the name to "The Battle of China". They invested a lot of money in the development of the script, but in the end they failed to pass the Chinese censorship and were rejected by the General Administration. Sony could only change it back to Los Angeles and became "The Battle of Los Angeles". Do you know why the script was rejected?"

Robert Eiger shook his head: "I don't know."

Zhang Ran sneered: "Because the script is full of American arrogance and ignorance of Chinese culture and emotions, it actually arranged for the US military to go to the Demon Capital to attack aliens. Not to mention that the government will not accept this, the vast majority of Chinese people are also unacceptable in terms of emotion."

Robert Eiger was a little surprised and didn't understand why Zhang Ran said this, but he believed that Zhang Ran would not be aimless and did not ask too much, but just listened quietly.

Zhang Ran continued: "It is difficult to please Chinese audiences. The director of Xiangjiang has been north for almost ten years, but he still cannot figure out the tastes of mainland audiences. Although many movies directed by Xiangjiang directors have good box office, the audience's reputation is full of bad reviews. Hollywood has little knowledge of Chinese audiences' preferences and emotions, and it is very difficult to win the hearts of Chinese audiences. Century Peak is a film company that knows the best of Chinese audiences. We have a special research team to conduct research on the needs and preferences of audiences, and we have theaters and online ticketing systems, which can carry out a large number of

Data analysis allows us to understand the audience's preferences better. If possible, we are willing to share these data with Disney. Assuming that Disney wants to make "Mulan" a live-action version, China will definitely be the largest ticket shop except the United States, and may even surpass the United States. However, the story of "Mulan" is well-known in China. If it is filmed inconsistent with the taste of Chinese audiences, then Chinese audiences will not be able to buy it. Our data can provide support for the movie, avoid plots that make Chinese audiences disgusted, and choose the most suitable actors to ensure the success of the movie!"

Zhang Ran looked at the thoughtful Robert Eiger and continued: "Derivatives are an important source of Dinis' income, and China's population is four times that of the United States. In the future, China's derivatives market will inevitably explode like the box office of the movies today. Century Peak is the best company in China. If we cooperate with us and everyone will jointly develop the Chinese market, the benefits Disney will receive in derivatives will increase greatly..."

On February 28, 2012, MPAA held a closed-door meeting in Los Angeles, and all the COS from the six major Hollywood film studios were present. There were only 6 COSes in the entire conference, and even MPAA chairman Chris Dodd was stopped outside.

According to convention, the six major players talk about everything in private, communicate below, and then convey their ideas to the management of the mpaa so that the association can act according to their own will. But this time it is different, and it is related to the Mpaa seat and the vital interests of the six major players. Such a decision can only be made by the six major players.

Century Peak is not a member of MPAA and is not qualified to attend the meeting. Zhang Ran naturally did not appear at the meeting.

When the meeting was held, Zhang Ran was not in Los Angeles at all. After communicating with Robert Eiger, he returned to China and came to Lin'an to prepare for his new film.

At 9:30 in the morning, Zhang Ran was talking to Li Xuejian about the new movie in the office. When "One Man's Lights and Decoration" was completed, Zhang Ran told Li Xuejian that there would be a movie to come to him, and now he is fulfilling his promise.

At this moment, Zhang Ran's cell phone suddenly rang. He looked at the number, apologized to Li Xuejian, got up and answered the phone. Before he could speak, the excited voice of Foxceo Jim Ganopros came over: "Mr. Zhang Ran, congratulations! Now you are a member of the top Hollywood club!"

Zhang Ran was not particularly excited. In his opinion, Dingfeng Entertainment won the MPAA seat was a complete conclusion, but he still replied with a smile: "Thank you, Jim! This is really good news!"
