Chapter 25 Final stronghold

Flames swept through and thick smoke rolled. The black armor suddenly emerged from the dense forest, like thunder piercing into Strak's secret facility.

The base's automatic defense mechanism was quickly activated, and unmanned turrets rose one after another. Black projectiles roared under the dazzling artillery fire. The dust several meters high had such splashes of water, and the ground was covered with potholes in a blink of an eye. Metal shells broke through tree trunks like a destruction, and towering trees dozens of meters high fell down.

Less than a minute after the first cannon sound of the battle, this area had been unrecognizable by various amazingly powerful hot weapons.

Michael controlled his suit and penetrated through the gap between the two stray bullets. At the same time, with the assistance of the artificial intelligence Shirley, he locked the position of each turret that fired at him. Several mini missiles dragged long smoke and shot out from the shoulders of his suit. With the sound of deafening explosions, all the unmanned turrets turned into smoked scrap iron.

"Sir, a confrontation team is approaching from the southeast." Shirley reminded, "The scan results show that they have two laser tanks, and there are twelve people equipped with exoskeleton power equipment and energy weapons."

Hydra's energy weapon technology originated from World War II. At that time, the founder of Hydra, Red Skull, had briefly held the cosmic cube. Hydra scientists developed a series of energy weapons through research on its endless special energy, which once became a nightmare for the Allies.

Although the universe cube is no longer in the hands of Hydra, its weapon technology has been retained. After so many years of research and transformation by generations of elite scientists from Hydra, it has been further improved, and melting through steel armor and breaking through tanks is no problem.

Unfortunately, it is not enough to help them defeat this lonely invader.

As soon as the two sides fought, the well-equipped Hydra was broken into pieces by the sound wave cannon. The Hydra soldiers with scattered formations were still trying hard to form a surround. They raised their guns and shot high-energy beams at the armor floating in the air, but most of them were avoided by the other party's flexibly using the advantages of high mobility.

The thruster on Michael's back was spraying flames, and the pulse beams of his palms poured out continuously. In the blink of an eye, most of the attack team had been killed or injured. The two laser tanks finally got a chance to lock in his figure. The laser shelling erupted like a rushing torrent, but was blocked by him. The high-density laser light hit the flame-colored magic barrier with all its strength, but at best it only splashed a few sparks.

Michael raised his right arm and a slender red laser beam shot out from the arm armor. With his arms swept across, the laser beam cut across like a silent sharp blade of iron, cutting the laser tank's armor in the waist along a red and hot cut mark.

Baron Strack looked at the battle outside on the screen in the control center, his face as if water was about to drip out.

Here comes again, that "Black Knight", Dr. Angus Norton - if the previous guess is correct, but where does his information come from? Not only the locations of the Hydra's backup sub-bases at the top secret level, but now he even chased all the way to the door of the top secret stronghold that Strack personally kept.

Could he know beforehand? Did he have any adventures in the past three years after Norton disappeared and gained superpowers similar to mind reading?

Although this idea is absurd, it seems to be the only reasonable explanation. Norton knows how to read minds, so he can always lead them one step ahead. No matter where they hide, what kind of plan they will be discovered and taken action by the other party, so they really have no chance of winning.

No, it is not hopeless. Regardless of whether he can read the mind or not, Norton has indeed arrived at the gate of their base. This also means that this is also the best opportunity for Strack. As long as they can kill Norton here once and for all, they will clear the biggest obstacle to making a comeback in the future. In that case, if he rebuilds Hydra, his ambition to rule the world is still not impossible.

Thinking of this, Baron Strack's mind became active again. He asked a correspondent wearing headphones beside him loudly: "Where has he broken through now?"

"The first two lines of defense have been broken!" The correspondent replied sweatingly, "Captain Middleton's troops have thirty seconds to contact the other party!"

Midelton's team is also one of the most elite combat powers under Strak. They are well-equipped and well-trained. If they are properly pulled, they should be able to delay for a few minutes. Strak was thinking in his heart, and then turned to Ivan Vanke behind him: "How long will it take to start that set of armor?"

"Ten minutes should be enough." The Russian strong man replied.

"Go and prepare immediately." Strak ordered, and his eyes returned to the screen, "Switch off all other functions in the facility and fill all the energy into the shield."

"Sir," the old man in a white coat walked up and whispered in his ear, "maybe we should consider sending twins."

"No, they are not ready yet." Strack said coldly, "It's not time yet, my people can hold on for long enough."

The technological level of the Baron Strak facility is indeed much higher than that of other Hydra bases. It took a little more effort to break through the outer defense line than Michael originally expected, but nothing unexpected happened after all.

The last group of Hydra teams trying to intercept were also wiped out under the powerful armored firepower. Michael accelerated and flew towards the building hiding at the end. When he approached about twenty meters, he raised his hand and shot out two pulse beams, but the shock wave violently hit an invisible barrier, causing rippling light blue ripples on the outside of the building.

Michael turned the direction and suddenly raised his body during the sprint. The thruster sprayed the tail flame downward to stabilize his body in mid-air.

"Sherley, do you see that?"

"See, sir." The AI voice replied crisply, "A layer of energy shield protects the outer layer of the building, and the pulse cannon has no effect."

"It's like a turtle huddling in a turtle shell, but Strack can't shrank for the rest of his life." Michael moved around the outer edge of the shield, "Scan the shield's energy efficiency to analyze the degree of solidity, and tell me how hard it is."

"The shield is designed to self-schedule the energy balance force as long as it is hit. As long as the energy is not exhausted, it will constantly repair itself, unless it is applied at one time to a large area of blow beyond its tolerance." Shirley quickly gave an analysis, "It may be difficult to break through with conventional weapons equipped with armor. But I can scan particle fluctuations and analyze the source of the shield generation. As long as the firepower is concentrated to destroy the generator, the shield will be released. Do I need to do this?"

"No, that's time-consuming," Michael said. "I prefer a time-saving approach."

He took a deep breath, his palms intertwined, and the palms of his armor immediately spit out two dark green magic circles. He hung in the air, gently closed his eyelids, and began to chant spells in a low voice.

"Sir, he stopped moving." A correspondent in the control room reported, and at the same time, the screen was widened and the image of the black armor hovering above the shield was released.

Strak sneered: "He must have realized that the shield cannot be easily broken. He cannot crack this protective cover in the remaining minutes. He must be scanning the energy source that generates the shield. We can take this opportunity..."

"Sir..." Another correspondent sitting next to him looked pale and pointed at the screen on his side like a frightened child. "You might... have to look at this..."

Baron Strack looked in the direction he pointed.

The sunlight from the forest was blocked at some point, and the clouds quietly accumulated over the base. The thick lead-colored clouds slowly circled above the head of the building, and the invisible force controlled the airflow to stir up a spiral black vortex at the bottom of the clouds.

In that vortex, light like an arrow shot out.

Baron Strack was stunned.
