Heinrich [1862-1929]

(The book is transliterated as Heidrich)

Prince Heinrich (1862-1929) was William II's youngest brother. He was a commander of the navy before World War I, but there was no noteworthy performance during the war.

Prince Heinrich has served as a naval officer since 1877. He proved that he was not only a honorary naval officer, but also won the respect of his noble peers during the development of the German high seas fleet from 1906 to 1909.

But in 1909, his naval career came to an end because of his aggressive policy of opposing Navy Secretary Dilpitz's attempt to develop the German Navy into a position that was comparable to Britain.

Due to the relationship between Heinrich and the German Emperor, he naturally would not be simply removed from office. He only lost the command of the High Seas Fleet, but was promoted to Admiral and served as the Navy Inspector General.

After the war broke out in 1914, he was appointed commander of the German Baltic Fleet, which was not a prestigious character considering his background. At the same time, he found that he could not influence Dilpitz's naval policy, and his suggestion to annex Denmark to obtain the North Sea estuary was not taken seriously at all.
