Chapter 24 The Gold of Britain

Without the prosperity of London, nor the clean and tidy streets and tall and majestic houses, the little citizens in inferior fabrics and old styles were more than the gorgeously dressed nobles, riding various horses and serious cavalry than the civilians who wandered around. This was the wartime capital of Britain, Birmingham.

The previous city government had been occupied by government officials and lawmakers who flocked from London. The mayor and civil servants of Birmingham had to rent two three-story houses two blocks away. As for the noble King George and the nobles, they moved to a luxurious manor located in the southern suburbs of Birmingham provided by Earl Dark for free. For security reasons, all the civilians near the manor were moved away. Four royal anti-aircraft artillery battalions, one Royal Fighter Squadron and three Royal Cavalry regiments would provide the royal family with three-dimensional and full defense protection, although the aircraft painted with iron crosses had never appeared near Birmingham.

George V sat in the boss's position with his right hand, with a group of ministers sitting on his left hand, and two dozen generals on his right hand, one against army generals and the other against navy generals.

Since the Battle of England and Germany in September, George V has suffered from a headache, and it is nothing. His head hurts more and more when he hears bad news, as if a German parasite is in his head. Any news that is beneficial to Germany can make it active for a while. Like Queen Victoria in Germany, George V also suffers from heart disease that is untreated.

After much consideration, Prime Minister Lloyd and others decided to tell George V all the bad news in the past few days at one time. After all, long pain is not as good as short pain. As everyone expected, George V covered his head in pain before he finished listening and hit him with his fists a few times.

"Your Majesty calms down, your body is important..."

The ministers and generals did not want to see George V were ill. They were already busy with the current situation. Once they lost the king, the spiritual leader, the entire Britain's determination to resist would be severely damaged, and morale increased by national self-esteem could fall into a collapse again.

It took a long time to go, George V stretched out his left hand and signaled that he could still hold on.

"My Prime Minister, Minister of Navy and Minister of the Army, you must determine where the Germans will land as soon as possible. We must use our efforts to drive all the Germans ashore into the sea, so that the Germans can retreat. The Germans are only suitable for living on land, and they are far less capable of ruling the oceans that we Britons have innately ruled over the ocean!"

After hearing the king's firm words, everyone was relieved. As time went by, many British people realized that they could not destroy themselves, the shipyard was to bow to the Germans, and that a battle against the water would give the country a chance to regain glory. Many people even believed that George V was the most tenacious and great British monarch of all generations. If he could lead the British people through this difficulty, the British Empire would reach another peak in his hands.

"Sir Fisher, keep talking!" George V took a deep breath and prepared to welcome the bad news later.

"Yes, your Majesty, your Majesty!" Navy Minister Fisher stood up and bowed to the king, expressing his respect for the king's perseverance.

"According to the information we have obtained, the German Navy has deployed 19 main battleships, 28 armored battleships, 56 cruisers, 130 destroyers and thousands of transport ships across the Strait, including the Germans' own ships, the warships captured by our British Empire in naval battles, as well as our former allies, the current servants of Germany - a large number of warships and ships provided by the French government. These ships are now divided into three fleets, deployed in Le Havre, France, Calais and Antwerp, Belgium. From this deployment, we believe that the Germans have the greatest possibility of landing in Brighton and Dover, and of course they do not rule out the possibility of landing in other regions."

"Using the transportation capacity of these ships, we believe that the Germans can send an army of a half group to our beach at one time, that is, about 300,000 fully armed German army soldiers. The strategy of our Navy is to delay the German fleet's next wave of troops after the first wave of landing in the German army. If we are lucky, we can buy 2-3 days for the army to eliminate the 300,000 German troops that have landed in the landing."

"2-3 days? I really doubt whether our great navy can buy so much time for our army now! In addition, whether the first wave of landings of the Germans was to transport as many infantry as possible, or to transport them together with armored vehicles and supplies. The strategies that our army does not need to formulate are different. The naval intelligence department should try its best to detect this information. I am afraid that our army will not need to teach these!"

Army Secretary Kitchener said mockingly that because the Admiralty focused on the quantity and quality of warships and ammunition, the Army finally obtained only 100,000 rifles, 500 machine guns, 400 cannons, 10 million bullets, 100,000 shells and 200 engines in the land-for-fleet transaction with the Americans. The Army was very dissatisfied with this. Kitchener even claimed that the Admiralty had caused his soldiers to have only flintlock guns to fight against German tanks. If the British Army was not ineffective in combat, Fisher and Churchill should be responsible.

"If the fleet provided by the Americans can participate in our local defense war in a timely manner, our navy may even defeat the German landing operations from sea! Unfortunately, the sailors we sent from the local and in Canada, New Zealand recruited were enough to control most of the fleet, let alone combat effectiveness. If the local defense war failed, the US government that refused to 'lent' the original sailors and officers of that fleet to us should be responsible!"

The Army generals frowned at the Admiralty's statement of shirking responsibility, and even Lloyd could not bear it. "Hiss Sir, unless the Americans are willing to participate in the war, you are just talking empty words. How could the US government let its sailors be cannon fodder for the battle between Britain and Germany? The Admiralty should focus on making some more realistic plans!"

"Yes!" Fisher was a little discouraged, and he murmured in a low voice, "Even if Nelson comes, it is unlikely that he will defeat the German fleet with aircraft carriers with such a British fleet!"

"It is said that the German third aircraft carrier has set out from the port of Cornisburg. It seems to be here to participate in this landing battle. The spy reported that the aircraft carrier was faster and stronger than the two aircraft carriers already owned by the German Navy! Can our navy last a morning in front of the three German aircraft carriers?" Kitchener took the opportunity to add a basin of cold water to Fisher. Many people already knew this information, but no one was willing to mention it in front of the king.

Bang!

George V's palm slapped heavily on the table, shocking everyone present, "When is it now! You are still fighting inside here! Are you worthy of the imperial uniforms on your body?"

After all, the spiritual leader is the spiritual leader. Everyone present is silent, especially Kitchener and Fisher, who lowered their heads and stopped talking.

"The Brighton Beach Defense Line and Dover Fortress were shelled by the German fleet. This is not only a failure of the army, but also a failure of the navy! The Ferland Fighter Squadron was attacked, the Ferland Fighter Squadron was attacked, the Blanco Arsenal and the Srindon Arsenal were bombed, the division headquarters of the 17th Division of the 3rd Army of the Second Army and the 3rd Guard Regiment of the Dover Garage were attacked. The army has the responsibility, and the navy has no right to laugh! At this critical moment, the Navy and the Army should abandon all contradictions and work together, otherwise what can we do to defeat the Germans who have a huge advantage!"

George V was very angry about the gloating behavior of the Army Department, but after the death of important naval generals and captured them, the unscathed army and army generals had become his last hope.

Working out to ease the atmosphere at the right time, "There is no need to worry too much. After all, the new German aircraft carrier is expected to be in service, and its combat effectiveness cannot be 100% exerted! As for the Americans, we should transport the ships and weapons they provide back to the British mainland as soon as possible. Even if this fleet stays in the British port, it will be a big threat to the German Navy!"

"Sorry!" Kitchener nodded at Fisher.

"Same!" Fisher also temporarily let go of the depression and dissatisfaction in his heart.

George V sat back on his chair, his face turned red from his previous excitement.

"As long as the Admiralty Department can obtain correct information about the German landing site, our army will make careful arrangements to ensure that the landing German army will be annihilated on the beach!"

When the British Navy was the most powerful, the collection of intelligence by the Navy was mainly undertaken by the Navy. Even though the navy's strength has declined rapidly now, Churchill, the intelligence officer, still has a very large control range. The Army often needs to rely on the intelligence of the Navy. It is also because of the navy's decline and lack of superior fortress artillery, that the British Army formulated to avoid the German naval artillery fire and fight the German Army with all its might.

"Our Admiralty will also tell you everything!" Fisher's statement finally faded the heat at the imperial meeting.

"About the attack of the Ferland fighter squadron, the Blanco Arsenal and the Srindon Arsenal were bombed, and the division headquarters of the 17th Division of the 3rd Army of the Second Army and the 3rd Army of the Dover Gage were attacked. We have confirmed that it was done by some Germans disguised as our army units! Since our local recruits, new troops and colonial corps have increased a lot in the past few months, this has brought many inconvenience to our identification and prevention work. For most officers, at least half of the current army units in the UK are unknown to them, and it is almost impossible to verify the identities of other soldiers in a short period of time! As the German landing approaches, our army is even more frequent, and it is too difficult to find out this small group of Germans!" Kitchener gritted his teeth and expressed the helplessness of the army units.

George V suddenly fell into a headache. Although he was far from the kind of monarch who would do everything himself, he was annoyed enough to listen to these things.

Lloy sighed, and he had no choice. The army has never been Britain's strength, and the construction of the army is far behind the navy.

"Our Navy will drive that fleet back from the United States as soon as possible. As for the troubles the Department of the Army, I think the only way to strengthen the defense of all important military goals!"

When Fisher said this kind words, he never expected that this would become a handle for the Army's attack soon. Military targets such as arsenals, military factories, hidden airports, artillery positions were indeed strengthened, but not only did the soldiers guarding bank vaults in various places such as Brighton, Psmouth, London, etc., the local garrison also paid much less attention to these places.

"The guards have about 450 people in one infantry battalion, and they are divided into six shifts to take turns around the vault. They start from 0 o'clock and have a shift of 4 hours and a shift of about 5 minutes. In addition to the three Maxim heavy machine guns deployed on the north and south sides, the defense weapons are only rifles and pistols in the hands of the guards. There are 2-meter-high walls around the vault and there are unenergized wire mesh on the top; the east and south sides of the vault are open areas thirty to forty meters wide, and there are sparse shrubs outside, and there are a highway to the north. There are few vehicles coming and going, and there are about 70 nearby residents!"

On a farm in the western suburbs of London, several people wearing British Army lieutenants uniforms are studying a nearby vault. British wealth, especially gold, is notoriously well-known. It is said that gold can be described astronomical in the vaults of several banks in London. However, there are rumors that all the gold in it has been transferred to Canada far away from the war, or buried deep in a secret place that only a few members of the royal family know. In any case, these Germans in British military uniforms have to go in and take a look. The answers in the vault are also something that some important German figures really want to know.

"We now have two hundred and thirty-three people, both deception and raid can be used!" The speaker was a middle-aged man in a captain's uniform. He had fluffy and sparse blonde hair and looked bald.

"The British army stationed at the closest British army is 20 miles away. If we cut off the telephone line between the vault and the outside world in advance, if we only report it through nearby residents or patrols based on gunfire, those British troops will probably react after about an hour." Another captain is familiar with Captain Karen, who led the team to attack British fighter jets before. After that, they successfully attacked Blanco's arsenal and a British division headquarters, forcing the British army to make adjustments to the deployment of large areas near Brighton, which also caused George V to have a headache for a while. In the previous three operations, the commando lost a total of 11 soldiers. Compared with this small sacrifice, their results were huge. If they successfully cooperated with the landing of most of the German army, the first-class Iron Cross Medal of Alive will definitely be indispensable, and the sacrifice will also become the heroes of the country.

"In addition, we can also send some people to ambush reinforcements next to the road, and delaying the reinforcements for half an hour is no problem!" The bald captain was the "British Lurker" members who were the second batch of commandos. Their results were quite good. When an arsenal and a garrison regiment attacked that regiment headquarters at night, they encountered a large number of patrols. Although they lost nearly twenty commandos, they successfully lured the British patrols to exchange fire with their own people, making Dover's British army almost in chaos.

"Then we can formulate two plans. If we can trick the defenders into opening the door, our losses can be minimized, but the possibility of fraud into the vault is not very high! The second plan is to launch a strong attack immediately after the first plan fails. The machine gun team pays attention to suppressing the British machine gun firepower points. After the others break through the British outer defense line, they must also occupy the machine guns as soon as possible. This is the key to the operation! As for the zha medicine used for blasting, we took the risk of getting hundreds of kilograms of high-explosion zha medicine from the ammunition depot that we attacked before. There should be no problem with blowing up the vault!" After three operations, the commander of the first commando, Second Lieutenant Tobias, obviously had adapted to the role of the destroyer, and the zha operation was more suitable for his command ability.

"I agree, if you can't cheat, you will attack! Although the losses will be greater, it is obviously not easy to enter the vault like before!" At this time, the other lieutenant officer who was as young as Tobias, was Helim, the commander of the Second Commando. In the commando, the "British Lurker" played the role of the team leader, and the commander was more like the coach and the captain, but when they encountered different opinions, they mainly focused on the team leader. If there was a conflict between Captain Karen and Captain Baden, the opinions of Captain Karen, the leader of the first commando.

"Agree!" Karen did not have much research and practice in actual combat command. After all, he was an excellent spy, not a omnipotent man.

"I agree too!" Captain Bading felt that he was smart enough, and this tactical problem would be solved by the commanders.

"In this way, we will have about two to two and a half hours to capture the vault and transport gold. If there is gold inside!" Helim said as he glanced out the window. Two trucks "borrowed" from the British army were parked in the farm. As for the owners of the farm, their family was cooking breakfast for these "British brothers".

"If the gold in this vault has not been transferred after the war begins, we may only be able to hold one tenth of the truck!" Karen said with emotion. If all the gold from Britain is taken over, Germany can not only quickly recover the loss of war, but also develop rapidly in industry and economy. You should know that Germany's current industrial strength is only half of that of the United States, which is also the most worrying thing about the German rulers. Post-war development will become Germany's number one task, and obtaining as much British wealth as possible is the most important side task in addition to the victory of the German army.

"It's better to prepare some more carriages and ox carts!" Captain Bath looked at the cattle and sheep in the distance and suggested to arrive.

"What a good idea! It seems we are going to become Robin Hoods who rob the rich and help the poor!" Tobias stretched.
