Chapter 1083 Casting
Zhang Ran drove home and smelled a scent as soon as he opened the door. On that day, Zhang didn't eat well. He couldn't eat with a mask at noon. After selling the candied haws, he took the plane back to Lanai Island and ate something on the plane. Now he is really hungry.
Zhang Ran walked into the kitchen, hugged Zhang Jingchu's slender waist from behind with both hands, and said softly: "Wife, I'm back! Wow, it smells so good!"
Zhang Jingchu smiled and said, "Why are you back so soon? Are you not going to accompany you two precious apprentices?"
Zhang Ran smiled and said, "I don't have so much spare time with them. Of course, I mainly miss you and my daughter!"
Zhang Jingchu asked while busying her work: "What do you want to eat? I'll make it for you!"
Zhang Ran said, "I will eat whatever you do. To be honest, I am really a little hungry!"
Five minutes later, Zhang Ran sat at the dining table, swallowed it voraciously, and quickly swept away all the food in front of him. Zhang Jingchu was about to ask, "Do you still eat?" I will make some more for you. The little girl suddenly started crying, and Zhang Ran immediately ran back to the room and coaxed her baby girl to go.
When Zhang Jingchu finished packing up the dishes and came to the living room, Zhang Ran was holding the little girl and playing with her. The little girl giggled when Zhang Ran raised her, which was very happy and brilliant.
When Zhang Jingchu saw the little girl laughing so happily, she couldn't help but smile: "Be careful, don't throw Xiaoxiao!"
Zhang Ran put the little girl on the sofa, held her hands on Zhang Jingchu's slender waist, and raised her up.
Zhang Jingchu screamed in fear, and laughed in the air: "Hate, let me down!"
The little girl seemed to have seen a particularly fun game. She clapped her hands and giggled: "Mom raises it high!"
After Zhang Ran put down Zhang Jingchu, he said to the little girl: "Mom, I don't know at least! She doesn't play such a fun game as raising high, we despise her!" As he said that, he lifted the little girl into the air again.
After playing with her baby girl for a while, Zhang Ran put the little girl on the sofa and held Zhang Jingchu's hand and said, "Wife, you know I have always wanted to bring Zhang Chunru's story to the screen. This drama will be fully launched after the beginning of the year. I want you to play Zhang Chunru. Biographies are particularly difficult to play. Not only should they look similar to the real characters they play, but they also need to learn their actions, imitate their accents, and imitate their expressions. Even the overall temperament needs to be expressed correctly! Among Chinese actors, the face shape is close to Zhang Chunru, and you are the only actor who has enough acting skills to support this role!"
Zhang Jingchu hasn't acted for nearly three years. She originally planned to wait for her child to be three years old and return to film after going to kindergarten, but she knew that Zhang Ran had prepared for this drama for ten years and knew the weight of this drama, so she naturally would not refuse: "No problem!"
Zhang Ran said very seriously to Zhang Jingchu: "There is a place that you must pay special attention to in this play. To play the role of Zhang Chunru well, you must read Zhang Chunru's books and read materials about the Nanjing Massacre; that is the darkest page in human history. Reading those materials will have a negative impact on people's psychology. Zhang Chun committed suicide due to depression. It is hard for us to say that her depression has nothing to do with reading a lot of historical materials about the Nanjing Massacre. In Nanjing in 1937, Weiterin and others protected more than 10,000 women and children, and was called a living Bodhisattva. She also suffered from severe depression and finally chose to commit suicide. There are two great women who have sacrificed their lives because of this, so we must be careful."
Zhang Jingchu knew that Zhang Ran was worried that she would fall into the role like she was in "One Man's Lights and Decoration", so she patted Zhang Ran's hand gently and said firmly: "I am a very mature actor, and you have also taught me a lot of psychological adjustment skills. I can regulate my emotions. I have seen Zhang Chunru's "Nanjing Massacre" and Zhang Chunru's mother's "Zhang Chunru". Look, I'm not fine, I'm not affected at all! Acting in such a play will definitely have an impact on emotions, but I can adjust it!"
Zhang Ran nodded slightly: "I believe you can adjust well, but we still have to be careful. It is said that Gao Yuanyuan was mildly depressed after acting in "Nanjing Nanjing". So, during the preparation and real-life shooting, you must receive psychological counseling every week, otherwise I will definitely not let you act."
After Zhang Jingchu was confirmed to play Zhang Chunru, she began to prepare for playing Zhang Chunru. She first made adjustments to her appearance, combed her hair back like Zhang Chunru and tied it up. At the same time, she began to read various information about the Nanjing Massacre; and based on the audio and video materials left by Zhang Chunru, she imitated Zhang Chunru's accent.
The walls of the study were covered with photos of Zhang Chunru, as well as a large number of people traps, the scene of the massacre, the victims, and the map of Nanjing in 1937. The layout of the entire room was close to the state of the studio when Zhang Chunru wrote "Nanjing Massacre". Zhang Jingchu believed that this would allow her to better understand Zhang Chunru's mood and better enter Zhang Chunru's heart.
At the same time, Zhang Ran also began to be busy with the early work of Zhang Chunru's movie. There are many roles in this movie. In addition to Zhang Chunru, the absolute heroine, there are two other roles that are particularly important, Weiterin and Rabe.
In this story of Zhang Chunru, Zhang Ran's original idea was to make it into a simple biopic. On December 13, 1994, Zhang Chunru participated in the Nanjing Massacre Picture Exhibition in Los Angeles. The bloody information evoked her memory of her ancestors' encounter in Nanjing, as the beginning of the movie. She committed suicide on November 9, 2004 as the ending of the movie. It describes how Zhang Chunru went from a weak girl to a keen and resolute fighter, and finally went to death.
During this decade, Zhang Ran has been constantly modifying and adjusting the script, and the current script is very different from the original conception. The whole story begins with Zhang Chunru meeting the exhibition on Nanjing Massacre in Los Angeles; after the book "Nanjing Massacre" was published, Zhang Chunru debated with Japanese ambassador St. Hashihiko Saito on the live broadcast of PBS TV as the climax and ending of the movie.
In that debate, Kurahiko Saito claimed that Japan had apologized. Zhang Chunru retorted that Japan had never officially said humble. The so-called apology in Japan was all about "regret" and "regret". Zhang Chunru also said, since you said you were humble, then you will say the apology in front of the audience across the United States. As a result, Kurahiko Saito dared not say apologies, but said that for the "Nanjing Incident", we realized that something unfortunate happened and the Japanese army committed atrocities. Therefore, many American audiences understood that what Zhang Chunru said was true. The Japanese people did not officially apologize and were avoiding this issue.
Zhang Ran regards the debate between Zhang Chunru and Kurahiko Saito as the ending of the movie. In addition to this rare head-on conflict, it can be used as the climax of the movie. There is another very important purpose, which is that Zhang Chunru has always hoped that the Japanese people will officially apologize. But until now, Zhang Chunru has passed away for ten years, and the Japanese people still have not officially apologized. Zhang Ran feels that he has the responsibility to inherit Zhang Chunru's will and tells the whole world that until today, the Japanese people still have not officially apologized for what they do!
According to Zhang Ran's current idea, this movie not only tells the story of Zhang Chunru, but also tells the story of "Weitlin Diary", "Rabe Diary", and Zhang Chunru's "Nanjing Massacre". The movie takes how Zhang Chunru created "Nanjing Massacre" as the main line, interspersed with how "Weitlin Diary" and "Rabe Diary" were written and how it was discovered, so as to show the courage and conscience that humans present when facing darkness.
In Zhang Ran's movie about Zhang Chunru, Weiterin and Rabe are very important, so it is necessary to find actors with both form and spirit to play Weiterin and Rabe.
At the end of last year, Zhang Ran met with German actor Ulrich Tucker and negotiated cooperation. Ulrich Tucker is one of the outstanding German actors. He has starred in famous films such as "Eavesdropping Storm" and "White Ribbon". He also played Rabe in the Sino-German co-production "The Diary of Rabe". In fact, actors like Tucker are generally unwilling to repeat themselves, but he really wants to work with Zhang Ran and is willing to play Rabe again.
The character of Weiterin is quite troublesome. When the Nanjing Massacre occurred, Weiterin was 51 years old and had been in China for 25 years. She was very Chinese and usually wore cheongsams and high heels, and she was very fluent in Chinese. There is such a record in "Weitin Diary". Once, Weiterin saw a Chinese boy wearing a sun flag armband to deliver meals to his sister, and then stepped forward and said, "You don't need to wear the sun flag. You are Chinese, and your country has not perished! You have to remember that in which year and month it was worn, and you never forget!" Without fluent Chinese, she could not do this at all.
To play the role of Weiterin well, the actor must be fluent in Chinese, at least behave like a decent person. If he is as good as the Chinese level of the movie "Never End", not to say that the audience does not forgive him, Zhang Ran himself will not forgive himself.
There are very few Hollywood actors who can speak Chinese, in Zhang Ran’s impression, there are only two, one is Pei Chunhua and the other is Mira Sorvino. However, their faces are completely different from Weiterin. Weiterin’s fat and round faces are particularly obvious. Therefore, there is no way to use them, so I can only find them.
If Zhang Ran's movie features Weiterin as the main character, with Zhang Ran's fame and influence, Hollywood stars will definitely rush to act and will definitely learn Chinese. But the problem is that Weiterin has not many scenes in this movie. In this case, it will be more difficult to master the super difficult Chinese.
Before the Spring Festival, the casting director told Zhang Ran that actress Amy Adams is willing to play Weiterin. Amy Adams has a typical round face, a slightly fat figure, and looks a bit similar to Weiterin; and her acting skills are excellent enough that she has been nominated for 6 Oscars so far. Playing Weiterin should be a good choice.
However, the Spring Festival was approaching, and Zhang Ran was busy and had no time to meet Amy Adams, so he recommended several books about the Nanjing Massacre to her and agreed to have an interview on the 12th New Year.
That morning, Zhang Ran came to a coffee shop on the island and met Amy Adams. It was an elegant and quiet room with not many people in the store. To be precise, there were no one except Zhang Ran and the two clerks.
Zhang Ran sat by the window, slowly stirring the coffee, then held the cup with his right hand and took a sip. He put down the cup, turned on the computer, and read the news.
After reading two news stories, Zhang Ran heard the clerk's voice greeting the customer, subconsciously raised his head and saw the clerk talking to a slightly fat beauty with red hair and a floral dress. The person coming was not someone else, and it was officially Amy Adams. Seeing that Amy Adams's eyes were directed towards him, Zhang Ran smiled and nodded at her.
Adams said something to the clerk beside him, then walked towards the table where Zhang Ran was. After sitting down opposite Zhang Ran, she looked at Zhang Ran and smiled and said, "Hello, Mr. Zhang! I am really happy to see you!"
