17. Chapter 17
Kevin dreamed that he was digging soil in the thick fog and miasma of Andoha's jungle. He drained the wet mud, dragged a vague heavy object, lie into the pit together, and then sealed the mud himself. The ground was stuffy and humid, covering the whole body, like a thick layer of blood mud.
The rust-like bloody smell became heavier and he finally couldn't help but pull out the soil and sit up, but saw corpses everywhere around him, and the battle flags of the Bronze Army and the Golden Lion Kingdom fell not far away, soaked in dark colors by blood. He looked down at the left and found that the person lying in the pit with him was Osvid.
"Wake up--" He was a little sad and pushed Osvid hard on the shoulder, but saw the lying body sitting up.
Osvid pulled out the arrow that was stuck in his body without any concern, picked up a longbow on the ground, handed it to him, and said, "Can you stand here and shoot the chaste leaves on the other end of the courtyard? Try to show me."
He stood up from the ground with his body on his back, and when he looked up, he found that the battlefield had become the garden of Parson's house. Osvid, an adult, stood by the refreshment table, and looked at him leisurely with his arms in his arms.
"Okay, give it a try." He hesitated and replied, then squinted at the sashimi tree in the distance, and steadily pulled the bowstring.
The long arrow was nailed heavily to the broad-leaved chaste tree with the sound of breaking the wind. The whole tree shook for a while and fell down in response.
He lowered his bow, but found himself standing on the top of the mountain. The whole world was extremely quiet, as if he was the only one left. The huge sunset slowly sank behind him, leaving behind the golden red like blood in the sky.
Kevin woke up in this quiet dusk.
He sat up, but found that he had been moved at some point - this was obviously not Osvid's study, but a large bedroom, a thick and luxurious bedroom with black gold brass as its main decoration.
"You finally woke up." An elderly voice said.
Kevin turned his head and saw a meticulously dressed old man sitting on a chair beside the bed and watching him quietly. The nasolabial folds on the corners of his mouth were so deep that they were almost carved into the bones, which looked old-fashioned and stern. The old man had a book on his knees, and with Kevin's eyes, he swept his eyes and saw the mark on the corners of the book clearly: Hou Shen Shu.
The first line of the page you open reads a sentence: Don’t treat dreams as a nonsensical and ridiculous journey, it always comes from.
Kevin curled his lips, withdrew his gaze, and said to the old man: "Mr. Ian, long time no see."
It's been a long time since he left Parson Manor after spring break that year, he has never seen this old housekeeper again. Unexpectedly, he was taken into the palace by Osvid.
Ian said with a grave face, "I'm glad to see you again."
Kevin: "...thank you." I didn't see it at all.
"I'll call the young master." He was probably used to calling this title, and he couldn't change it for a while. He got up and paused and added, "Oh, it's Your Majesty."
Kevin lifted the quilt and said, "No need, I'll go out with you."
Before his feet touched the ground, a tall figure had already appeared at the door of the bedroom.
"Retract your feet, and those who have been sleeping for three days and three nights are not qualified to get out of bed and jump around." Osvid's voice came coldly, "If you don't want to continue copying the Codex a hundred times."
When Kevin heard this, he took back his feet for Junjie and said in surprise: "Three days and three nights?"
Osvid: "Or what do you think?"
Kevin looked outside through the window. The heavy rain had not stopped. A thin layer of water mist rose on the ground, almost the same as before he fell asleep: "...I thought it was only half a day."
Osvid replied with great contempt: "Ha."
Kevin: “…”
"Let them get some food, roasted mountain rabbit braised storks and the like." Osvid took off his coat, which was stained with rain, and ordered Ian.
Old Ian saluted and said sternly: "No, people who have not eaten for three days and three nights cannot eat these, I will ask them to make something else. In addition, your Majesty, your diet is too meaty recently. I have notified them to change the menu in the morning." After that, he left with respect.
"..." Osvid said with a blank expression: "My mind must have been in the sea before I brought him here."
Seeing the flesh in his mouth flying, Kevin also twitched the corner of his mouth and said, "So he is now?"
Osvid had a squinting face: "Eunuch General."
Kevin: “…”
He stared at Osvid for a while, and said in a speechless way: "I find out now that you are probably a masochist."
Osvid: "…"
He slammed the door with a cold face, then strode to the edge of the bed and pulled the armchair over. When he sat down, he couldn't help but explain hard: "If I didn't bring old man Ian over, he would have died long ago. I'm very annoyed him, it doesn't mean I want him to die."
Kevin opened his mouth and wanted to make fun of it, but Osvid stopped him from speaking: "Shut up, you don't have the share of your words. Now I'm asking you, what's going on?"
"What's going on?" Kevin was stunned.
"From the out of Andoha Jungle until now, you are awake except for the few times you fight, you are almost always sleeping the rest of the time," Osverde said.
Kevin laughed dryly and rubbed his slightly sore neck, "Perhaps... I'm not sleeping enough."
Osvid sneered: "If I remember correctly, you told Mio that you were unconscious until this year. People who have been sleeping for several years told me that they lack sleep and are fooling around?"
Kevin: “…”
"Next time you make a fool of yourself, it's best to find a piece of paper to write it down so that you won't forget to turn your head and slap yourself in the face." Osvid leaned on the back of the chair, holding his arms and squinting at him, "So I think it's very necessary for you to reinterpret the whole thing."
Kevin thought for a while and said, "Okay... I don't know why I didn't die at the beginning, and why I woke up in the Andoha Jungle. But when I opened my eyes, I happened to see a hungry lion pounced over. Oh, it's that brat in Ban. Of course, I couldn't have been so cheap, so I beat him up--"
"Wait a minute." Osvid was not interested in how he cleaned up the squad. "You said you saw a lion when you opened your eyes? Where are you lying?"
"On the ground." Kevin said.
"Just lying down like this, without covering?" Osvid said. "There are indeed not many large beasts in Andoha, but some are insects, which are eaten by living people and dead people, and they are poisonous due to the fog and miasma. If you bite a bite and don't apply medicine, it will inevitably ulcerate and become purulent. Where are your wounds?"
Kevin: “…”
"So where are you lying?" Osvid asked again, picking his chin.
Kevin said helplessly: "Underground."
Osvid frowned: "Underground? What is underground?"
"Just dig a hole and bury it into the underground."
Osvid: "…"
This description is very strange. Can living people be buried underground?
"No matter how you pretend to die, you should die if you are buried for a while." Osvid said this with a tense face, and suddenly remembered another thing, "I was still in Parson Manor when you died in battle, and I didn't see it with my own eyes, but later I heard Mio mention it. He said that he was there for your funeral. After the coffin was placed in the ground, he and several officers of the Bronze Army stood in front of the tombstone for a whole day, and they didn't leave until dusk. The coffin had such a big space, and could they live for a whole day?"
Kevin: “…”
Osvid's eyes were lighter than when he was a child, almost transparent, like the smartest snow wolf in the Mogao Icefield. When he looked straight over, he had a sense of arrogance and thoroughness.
"Okay... wait." Kevin got out of bed from the other side, closed the window, and walked to Osvid and asked, "Are there any suitable weapons? Such as daggers and short knives? The same goes for fruit knives."
Osvid: "…"
This is like trying to seek power and usurp the throne.
"Oh, I don't mean anything else, just borrow it." Kevin added.
"You try to walk barefoot again." Osvid asked him to roll back to the bed, walked to the side himself, took out a black gold dagger behind the dressing mirror and threw it to him.
Kevin caught it, bounced open the dagger sheath, and without blinking, he drew a thread on his wrist.
"What are you doing?! Are you crazy?!" Osvid snatched the dagger.
"Hey——relax." Kevin waved his hand indifferently, lifting his wrist in front of him, "Look carefully."
Osvid was unwilling to shut up, but his face was still not very good-looking. He probably still felt that Kevin was a little crazy. He looked at the blood-dripping wound with a dark face, ready to call someone in and apply medicine to Kevin to stop the bleeding.
But after watching for a while, his face changed.
Because the wound had stopped the blood by itself and healed most of the time in just a few seconds. It was a very wonderful process. The cracks in the skin were pinched together at a speed visible to the naked eye, and even the scab was not formed, as if there had never been scratches there.
If it weren't for the two bloodstains left on the ground, Osvid would have suspected that he was sleepwalking just now.
Kevin shook his intact wrist in front of him: "Do you understand why I'm lying and fooling people now?"
