Chapter 310 The meaning of life
Ding Xu was very moved. This is a community with a shared future for mankind. I hope the whole world can see it. In fact, only when we unite can we solve an impossible crisis.
Individuals and teams, companies and charity, personal interests and social responsibilities, bringing glory to the country and international cooperation...
As the subjects and demands involved are more and more, the more I realize that I cannot regard enthusiasm as the secret to breaking through all levels.
In order to normalize work, rather than just passively waiting for disasters to happen, I led my team to carry out anti-poaching work in Zimbabwe, Africa.
This time I knocked on the door, but this time, knocking on the door failed to solve all the problems.
After we got there, we knocked on the door, and the embassy enthusiastically introduced us to the local overseas Chinese leaders. But since then, we felt a lot of doubt.
Overseas Chinese think we are here to do a show, so we will go back after taking a few photos.
The local white people ngo even reported that we were poaching under the name of anti-poaching. They also went to the airport to take photos and reported that we were going to transport the elephants back to Beijing. The photo was Boeing 737, how could we put down an elephant?
Including those closest to us, we also have misunderstandings. Because we need guidance, we have an Italian friend named Franciske. His yard is very large and he has many dogs.
Once we went to his house to play, and the team members teased them because they liked dogs. At this time, Lao Fu suddenly raised his gun and pointed it at us and said: If you dare to eat my dog, I will kill you!
He thinks we all eat dogs!
When you go out, you find that the outside world misunderstands us too deeply.
I can understand this kind of distrust. Objectively speaking, we are indeed the largest ivory consumer. But because of this, we need to participate more. Doubt and confrontation cannot solve practical problems, so we might as well do it ourselves!
With the help of overseas Chinese leaders and after several twists and turns to complete various procedures, our team finally moved into the Manapus Bioreserve.
Manapus Park is very beautiful. Forests, grasslands, rivers, swamps, Zambian mountains, diverse landforms and abundant species. When flying over the sky, groups of hippos and elephants are like big fat bugs.
That vastness and primitive feeling made me feel that everything in the city is so small. And these on the African land are the beginning of life.
Our base is located at the northernmost part of the park and the northernmost part of Zimbabwe. Because it is a UN natural heritage, we cannot build fixed buildings, cement land, walls, and only set up tents to be with wild animals every day.
Sleeping in the tent, the surroundings are full of animal calls, the sound of hippos like a thousand miles of sound transmission, as well as lions, elephants, wild dogs, warthogs and animals that are not famous for being nagged. You will be scared to death, as if the tent will be torn to pieces at any time.
Every day when we open the tent, we must carefully check whether there are elephants and lions outside. The elephants sway and sway in front of our eyes every day.
One night, an elephant fell asleep at the door of my tent!
Another time I met a lion directly because the color of the lion was the same as the color of the grass in the dry season. When we walked up to the lion, we saw three lions lying there!
Of course, they also saw us, not to mention that we were right in front of us, even hundreds of meters away, they could know it. So at that time, my heart was beating and my mind was blank.
Never run away at this time, as you run away, you will be finished. In fact, animals don’t know that humans can eat, we are not on their recipes, but if I run away, it means you are prey. The lion will instinctively chase you.
Finally, we held our breath and moved away tiptoely. The lion didn't move much, probably because we were treating us as a group of passing baboons?
Although there are many dangers from animals, most of them can be avoided after understanding the rules. Moreover, in order to better protect animals, it is very important to actively observe and learn their habits.
Gradually I became sensitive to animals, especially elephants. I even knew some elephants, each with their own personality.
There is an elephant who is not very old but is particularly nervous. When she sees us, she always likes to open her ears, rush over, and then stops at the nearest place, trying to scare us!
But we also formed a tacit understanding. We knew that it was coming, and we were not afraid of it, so we stood still.
There was also an elephant. I wonder if it was lost in our base. She shook her head wildly in the camp, like eating ecstasy. After exhaling her breath, she left, like a child.
In my early years, I also knew an elephant called oscar, 50, and I was very gentle in my life. We could even touch its nose. Its teeth were also very long and very beautiful, but later it disappeared.
I haven't seen it again for so many years. Sometimes an elephant approaches us, and I will subconsciously ask if it's oscar. I'm back?
We still don’t know what it has experienced?
I have always been concerned about it, it is called oscar.
Ding Xu's nose suddenly felt sour. It was no way to know whether the elephant died naturally, migrated or was hunted. It was very difficult to track an elephant on such a vast prairie. And it was even more elusive that poachers came and went without a trace.
We will carry the powered delta wing to patrol the park, but because of the complex terrain, it is often too late to find clues.
Once, my teammate was patrolling and found a hunted elephant. In order to get the complete ivory, the poacher cut off its entire face.
Because they were once the living lives in front of me, I was particularly indignant and heartbroken when I saw them being hunted with my own eyes.
The worse thing is not to shoot, but to poison in the water. Because there is no gunshot, poisoning is even harder to detect, and poisoning is often a large area of animals. Most of the animals that have been poisoned are of no value to poachers.
This is very bad!
Sometimes poachers will infiltrate and cause some damage. The radio station in our camp was demolished. So where will the danger come from? I don’t know, it is always there.
During a night patrol, I found someone waving a flashlight in the air in the opposite direction of Zambia. I thought it was tourists playing, but later someone called a signal on our side, and I immediately realized that this might be a communication between them.
Then the people on the opposite side saw our headlights and misjudged that we were accomplices and came over. When they were very close, they found something wrong and ran away!
I didn't know what armed the other party was, so I didn't dare to chase after him. Instead, I rushed back to the nearest camp, got a rifle and night vision goggles, and followed him quickly, but because of the complex terrain, I finally lost my pursuit.
At that time, I wanted to catch a poacher because I didn't catch one there for several years.
However, Africa's anti-poaching work has achieved good results, and we still play a role in guiding and deterring. Now our country has completely banned the ivory trade.
This is what we are most proud of!
