Chapter 3 The Spire

What appeared in front of the gunsmith was the source of the rotten smell, the fish. They were lying on the mud in groups of three or three, emitting the scent of the corpse. Of course, fish could not have stood, let alone dead fish.

The gunsmith observed and found that this small highland was less than 100 square meters, which was obviously higher than the surrounding terrain. He was very surprised why there were fish that died in such places, and there were quite a few. The varieties of these tropical fish were different, and they might have more than thirty or forty.

At first he thought it was done by local natives, but after thinking about it, he felt that it was not like it. How could humans struggle to catch fish, not eat or raise, but throw it on the high ground to make it rot and smelly? Then he wondered if it was done by some kind of animal, but soon found that it was even more impossible. The animals do not use fishing nets and hooks. They will leave scars on the fish's body more or less, but the conditions of these fish in front of them look...

A thought flashed through the gunsmith's mind. He immediately walked to the nearby tree and looked closer to observe the trunk. Sure enough, there were water marks and it had not dried yet. The lower half of the tree should have been soaked in water. That is to say, not long ago, there was a river or a pond here, and the muddy mud under his feet also explained this.

So, the reason why these fish in front of us die is that the water level here dropped by several meters a few hours ago, and they didn't even have time to float. But this place is obviously a high ground. If the water level has reached such a high place, wouldn't the surrounding areas be flooded at the bottom?

The gunsmith went downhill and checked the surrounding trees again. The part of the exposed trunks was the same color, and only the bottom root was soaked in water. In this way, there was only one explanation for the strange phenomenon in front of him. It was not that the water level had changed, but that the ground suddenly raised itself.

The earthquake? I didn't feel it. Could it be that a huge ancient beast below turned over? Just kidding?

The gunsmith is very curious. The inventor has basically had this problem since he was a child. Once he discovers something strange, he doesn't find out what is going on, and it will be uncomfortable all over.

It was noon, which was logically the time to start a meal and rest, but the gunsmith would not have the appetite to eat without solving this mystery. So he thought of a very direct way to dig.

He took out some things from his backpack and made simple gloves with two pieces of cloth. Anyway, he didn't need to separate his five fingers to do this work. He simply fixed the two cloth covers with a seat belt just to prevent the mud from being embedded in his nails, and then he started to do it with bare hands.

The mud was soaked at the bottom of the water, and it was fine to dig it. The gunsmith's movement was like a dog digging holes. It was digging quickly, and soon the whole person was in the pit.

After working like this for about an hour, he had already entered the ground for more than ten meters. In order to prevent being buried by the silt that fell when he was working below, the gunsmith did not dare to dig it into a straight-up and down well. The pit he dug was a funnel shape, keeping it wide at the top and narrow at the bottom. Every time he digs down one or two meters deep, he has to come back to expand the opening, so the amount of labor increased. However, he is not a normal human being anyway, and he is not tired of doing this work.

Just as the gunsmith began to feel a little stupid in this wilderness for a irrelevant inference, he hit a very hard object with his claws, and his fingers were shocked to hurt.

"Stone? Please don't be stone." The gunsmith said to himself. He separated the last layer of soil and saw what he wanted to see the most.

It is indeed not stone, but metal.

"Hahahahaha!" The gunsmith laughed wildly. For a moment, he felt that he had dug up an alien spaceship.

After digging out more soil, the gunsmith gradually denied the speculation because he had an even more incredible idea - there was a metal pyramid under the swamp.

This highland, or this pond, is above the spire of the tower. For some reason, the buildings below rose, causing the ground to rise. If it were not a swamp above, the ground might not be raised but collapsed.

The gunsmith quickly stopped digging. What kind of giant thing was under the spire was unpredictable. Maybe there was a city below, and the vertical height from the spire to the underground would be very high. If he digged down the slope outside, he might not be able to reach the end for a few kilometers.

He stepped on the metal and jumped back to the ground. He caught fire and roasted two nutria caught yesterday. While eating, he thought about what to do next.

The more reliable way is to fill the pit again and have the opportunity to bring a engineering team to make a comeback in the future; however, the gunsmith has always been a not very reliable person, and he can't wait to know what is underneath, when was this thing buried, and why it just bulged recently? The abnormal magnetic field here must be related to this thing, maybe there is some lost ancient civilization inside...

The deeper I think, the more the curiosity of the gunsmith is, the more it is. Since I have come here today, it is an opportunity. If I miss the opportunity, it is hard to say whether I can find the spire of this tower again in the future. The compass here cannot be used, and the landform is extremely complex and changeable. It can be said that there will be no store after passing this village.

He filled his stomach, and his original escape plan was completely thrown away. Now it is not the time to consider a meal and a night. In this jungle that human civilization cannot reach, a huge metal was buried deep underground. How could the gunsmith ignore it?

He checked his bag, put on his back, then took out his bone gun, and decisively pulled the trigger towards the metal spire under the pit.

The sound of the bone gun is slightly different from that of the general pistol, and its sound is more muffled. The bullets fired by the bone gun are similar to a highly condensed energy block. When it comes into contact with the target, it will change its own energy according to the structure and strength of the target. Therefore, the harder the object is, the greater the power and energy it produces. For example, when hitting a person's body, the power is similar to that of an ordinary bullet, and when hitting a steel, the power will increase to the level of armor-piercing bullets. If hitting a diamond, the overflowing energy may cause an explosion.

Of course, surfaces or media that cannot even resist the breakdown strength of ordinary bullets will not trigger this energy transformation, such as water, air, chemical fibers on the surface of the bulletproof vest, etc. This is the unique weapon of the gunsmith, and the empire has not obtained this technology.

The gunsmith thought it would be too difficult to shoot through this metal. According to his estimate, such a large piece of things could not be harder than diamonds. His estimate was correct. The hardness of the spire was not as hard as that of diamonds, but judging from the shooting results, it was not much worse.
