Chapter 29 Divination
This is a very small house, but because of the very reasonable layout and the improvement in space utilization, people in this room will not feel cramped.
The room was divided from the middle, and it was obviously just a reception room, which occupied one-third of the entire room. On the other side of the reception room was the real divination room. The two rooms were separated by door curtains strung with beautiful shells and exquisite bone carvings. From the outside, it was impossible to see the inside clearly, and only a lot of strange things could be vaguely seen.
There are only simple tables and chairs in the reception room, and there is a pot of clay pot and well water and four cups on the table, and nothing else is there.
The witch walked to the curtain and stopped, turned around and asked, "Who of you two will come first?" Lin Tianyu glanced at Alexiya who was eager to try, and made a lady-first gesture. Alexiya hesitated for a moment, but still couldn't help but temptation to predict fate. She followed the witch in. Lin Tianyu sat bored on a log stool. After about ten minutes, Alexiya walked out of it, looking melancholy, and it was obvious that the result of divination was not very good.
Lin Tianyu couldn't help this, so he could only nod at Alexia with comfort, then opened the curtain and walked in.
The divination room was filled with all kinds of strange things, including statues of pagan gods, crystal balls for divination and tapestries with many strange runes. A glass urn was filled with some amulets that looked very pagan. When Lin Tianyu saw it, he decided to buy a few before leaving and take them back, as souvenirs or wear them by himself.
The divination room has no windows, so even in the house during the day, candles are lit. Under the dim candlelight, everything in the house is coated with a mysterious color. Although I don’t know if the strange witch in front of me really has the power to predict fate, at least she has done quite well in creating the atmosphere.
The witch stood opposite a low obsidian table and stared at Lin Tianyu silently. For some reason, Lin Tianyu always felt that there seemed to be a complex and strange waste in the other party's eyes, a mixed emotional color of joy and sorrow, as if he was looking at a relative who had been reunited for a long time, or someone she knew but had never met before. This inexplicable appearance made Lin Tianyu very uncomfortable because he was very sure that it was his first time to meet this witch.
"I have a question and I'll ask you, have we known each other before?"
"Of course not," the witch seemed to notice his loss of composure and said with a concealment smile, "This is the first time I've seen you."
Lin Tianyu said half-jokingly, "But the look of your eyes made me feel like we have seen each other before, and I have done things like being unfaithful to you."
A hint of anger flashed in the witch's eyes, "This joke is not funny at all."
She quickly calmed down and sat cross-legged at the obsidian low table like a professional, stretched out her hand and signaled, "Please sit down, I think we should start."
Lin Tianyu sat down opposite the witch. He noticed that the hand she stretched out was particularly slender and fair. If the other party was not an extra small woman, or a minor girl, it seemed that some of this could be heard from her clear voice.
The witch ignored Lin Tianyu's puzzled gaze. She took out a deck of cards from her wide sleeves. The back of the cards was hand-painted with beautiful patterns, which seemed to be props specially used for divination.
"Tarot card?" Lin Tianyu asked uncertainly.
"It's Atas Astrology Cards," the witch said expressionlessly, turning a deck of cards in her hand, waving a bunch of cards, and then slamming them out with one stack with one hand, as if she was performing acrobatics, and faintly seemed to be a mystery of a certain ritual. Finally, she twisted the cards gently on the table, and the cards were evenly and neatly arranged.
"Please draw three cards from here, these three Kuro cards will reveal your past, present, and future."
Kuro Card? What a strange name, but it seems that there is no difference from the card fortune tellers who used to be at tourist attractions. Lin Tianyu thought to himself, but it is still very atmosphere to let an ancient Roman witch do divination. After all, it is much more reliable than those who wear retro robes and hold tarot cards bought from the store in modern tourist attractions.
This atmosphere satisfies Lin Tianyu's curiosity towards ancient mysterious culture, so Lin Tianyu draws three cards from the pile with an interest.
The witch gently uncovered the first piece of paper. On the side of the card was a fisherman who was casting a net to catch fish. His face was sad. A bright moon shone on the sea in the sky, but the fishing boat's basket was empty. Under the side of the card was a line of words - "Futile Fisherman".
"What does this mean?"
The witch's voice is calm and mysterious, "Your past is full of meaningless labor, often trying hard but not getting the rewards you deserve, so much so that you are full of pessimism and despair about life."
Lin Tianyu thought about it and seemed to be somewhat similar to himself in the past. Before he obtained the Gate of Time and Space, his acquisition was very boring. Lin Tianyu nodded and signaled the witch to continue.
The witch unveiled the second card quietly.
The card is drawn of a traveler, wearing a robe, but waving a sword in his hand. He stood at a fork in the road, and seemed hesitant. Under the card, there was also a line of words written in Latin - the hesitant traveler.
"The road represents opportunities, the sword represents passion. Your life is colorful now, but you cannot determine the direction of your life. Now you are standing at a fork in the road, any important choice may determine your future destiny."
"Okay, I'm indeed a little confused. This time I've been hit by you again." Lin Tianyu shrugged, "So what's my future like?"
A hint of excitement flashed in the witch's eyes, as if she was even more eager to know the answer than Lin Tianyu. She suddenly unveiled the third card, revealing the face of the card.
A defeated gladiator was lying miserably on the sand of the Colosseum, his weapon had been thrown aside, and the winner was raising a sharp axe over his head, but the winner's face was facing the audience, as if waiting for the audience to make a judgment on the loser (1).
The Latin language below the card reads - The defeated gladiator.
Seeing the card-faced witch remained silent for a long time, this silence made Lin Tianyu feel uneasy, but he still didn't believe in the essence of this divination, so he pretended to be relaxed and asked: "Is my future so bad?"
"Your future will encounter a major crisis, and you will eventually fail in the fight against fate, but at the last moment you still have a trace of luck. Do you see those audiences? They will determine your life and death."
The witch's voice became elusive. She looked at Lin Tianyu, and the complicated expression that had appeared before appeared again. She asked with a trembling voice, "Do you still want to continue?"
"Of course," Lin Tianyu said: "Your divination is honestly interesting, but I don't really believe in this kind of divination in the general sense. Do you have any more powerful tricks?"
"What do you want to know in more detail?" There was a strange expression on the witch's face, which made Lin Tianyu feel that he seemed to have said something wrong.
“I do want to know more in detail.”
"Well, if you persist, but I want to warn you that knowing that your future is not a good thing sometimes, will make your life journey very boring."
(1) Judgment on the loser: There is a rule for the ancient Roman gladiator to be defeated. When one side of the gladiator is defeated, the audience will decide the life and death of the gladiator. If the audience puts his thumb up, he will live, and if he faces down, he will die.
