"Speak with facts, focus interview!"

"Hello, audience friends, welcome to the special report of "Focus Interview" "Rise of Documentary."

Jing Yidan calmly introduced: "In the past half month, our station has opened the "Character Record" column at 22:40 every night, specializing in playing excellent domestic documentaries. The documentary that premieres is the "China on the Bite of the Tongue" food documentary that is now popular all over China."

"China on the Bite of a Tongue" is a large-scale high-definition documentary written and directed by Wan Xiaohu, a famous international director of my country. The famous directors Ning Hao, Ren Changzhen, Liu Yang, Cheng Er, Lu Jianqing, Wuershan and Hu Yingying serve as episode directors, introducing Chinese food and the humanistic stories behind it. After its premiere on March 19, it immediately became the focus of national attention and aroused a lot of discussions and praises."

"What kind of reason can make a documentary gain so many topics and attract so many people's attention and become the hottest focus nowadays? With such questions, the "Focus Interview" column team specially made a report on this issue of "The Rise of Documentary".

After Jing Yidan finished his opening remarks, the picture jumped to the picture of "China on the Bite of the Tongue", and then there was a narration.

"The documentary "China on the Bite of the Tongue" targets the audience not only for the 'foodies' who like foodies. The executive director Ning Hao said that during the filming, the crew locked the audience as ordinary normal people, and said that the goal of the film is to use food as a window to allow audiences at home and abroad to appreciate the beauty of Chinese food, and then perceive China's cultural traditions and social changes."

"By showing the stories between people and food, looking at society through food, showing the audience the traditional farming of China, and also telling the audience that many Chinese traditions are changing. Some of the people appearing in the film are likely to be the last generation of people who inherit craftsmanship. The documentary films are foods that carry the spirit of the Chinese people."

The picture flashed and Ning Hao appeared in front of the camera.

I didn’t see the reporter, but I saw the microphone: “The ratings of “China on the Bite of the Tongue” are very high. The impact of the program is also huge. When you were doing this documentary, did you think that it would have such a big impact?”

Ning Hao seemed to be sitting behind the monitor at the scene of the filming of "The Golden Robbery": "I imagined that because when we planned, the investment was very large. When we discussed with Wan Xiaohu, we said, don't be too sensational, don't exaggerate at will, don't introduce dishes that cost more than 50 yuan per dish, introduce the relationship between people and food, and the family changes of people who make food. The audience will see a different documentary."

"What motive is it that prompts you to shoot this documentary?"

"Wan Xiaohu suggested that he had a lot of ideas. He said that we would shoot a food documentary, try the subject of documentary, and then start making scripts and planning."

"China on the Bite of the Tongue" has such a great influence, but only seven episodes, and many viewers are still unsatisfied. Will there be a sequel?"

"This depends on the situation. After all, we directors, except Ren Changzhen and Hu Yingying, are both film directors. Now we have no time. Wan Xiaohu is going to film "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" in Hollywood, I am going to film "Golden Robbery", Urshan is going to film "Painted Skin", and Liu Yang is going to film "Ip Man". Cheng Er and Lu Jianqing are also planning a new movie." Ning Hao answered the question while not forgetting to take the opportunity to promote the movie.

Then, another narration introduced the main creator of the crew of "China on the Bite of the Tongue".

After the introduction of the main creator, Wan Xiaohu appeared.

Sitting on a boss's chair, the iconic Sanqi development type, combed with bright tiles. This is an interview received by Wan Xiaohu's office on the top floor of Dandelion Building. The entire office is spacious and bright, with four treasures of the study and several documents on the table. The decoration of the entire office is tall and high-end.

However, on the wall behind Wan Xiaohu's chair, a calligraphy and painting is particularly conspicuous and destroys the style.

This is a brush calligraphy, framed with a gilded picture frame.

The four big characters "successful people" above are written in the running script, and the signature is Wan Xiaohu's own name.

In such an elegant office, such a cool calligraphy appeared and such a high-end program, it was simply amazing.

Many viewers laughed almost on the spot.

Wan Xiaohu, who was interviewed in "Focus Interview", was just a stern face and was seriously interviewed.

The reporter still only saw the microphone but no one was seen: "Director Wan, how did you think of filming a subject like "China on the Bite of the Tongue"? Is it like many viewers think of you, are you also a foodie?"

"To be precise, I am not a foodie. I don't study much about food, and I'm not picky about food. The reason I want to make such a documentary is more to use this method to convey something we ignore. And I actually wanted to make a documentary a long time ago."

"Director Wan, you are a highly productive film director. You should be said to be very busy. Why do you still have to make a documentary?"

"Director, you are creating stories, and documentaries are more like preserving history. They are just a mirror and an indispensable album for a country. Our country has not invested a lot in documentaries now. In fact, to improve a country's comprehensive national strength, you must improve both soft and hard aspects. The cultural industry is the most direct reflection of soft and soft power. It is necessary for us to vigorously develop the film industry now, but we cannot ignore the development of culture in other aspects. Documentaries are the same. If I can do my best, I will definitely do this."

"Now "China on the Bite of a Tongue" has begun to be replayed on CCTV's second set, and it has caused some response overseas. Have you ever thought, can it play a role in promoting Chinese culture?"

"Of course." Wan Xiaohu said with certainty, "When I assigned script tasks, I told the team that we should not only see the country, but we should show it to foreigners. I also assigned them tasks, and I said you should learn BBC documentaries and see how others make documentaries. We do not deliberately beautify them, but deliberately use data to express them. We only have one goal and sincerity."

“That is, this documentary was for everyone at home and abroad from the beginning?”

"Yes, there are several countries who have come to buy copyrights now. We have also received invitations from the Cannes Film Festival, hoping that "China on the Bite of the Tongue" will participate in the documentary screening. We also hope that more foreigners can see this documentary."

Even with such an official and formal public opinion program, Wan Xiaohu was not scruples when chatting, and said whatever he wanted. At his current status, no one could stop him from saying something.

In China, an official country, once it succeeds, it will eventually want to make a move in politics.

Just as the ancient literati Fan Zhongyan said: "If you are poor, you will be able to keep yourself alone; if you are rich, you will be able to help the world."

Wan Xiaohu is now developing and wants to express his ideas more or his political propositions. What the public intellectuals say, can't he, a great director, say?

So, in "Focus Interview", Wan Xiaohu spoke openly.

"The reason why I filmed "China on the Bite of the Tongue" has my purpose. In addition to what I said before, I want to convey Chinese culture, and more importantly, I want to show China. Because of the filming, I often travel between China and the United States. I can feel deeply that the people of the two countries do not understand each other."

"Many people in China always think that Western countries are so good. Westerners live in heaven. In fact, this is not the case. Westerners are different from ours. I have met many Americans, who are also oppressed by life and can't breathe. They have to face a lot of bills every day, and even sleep on the streets."

"While Westerners have a deeper misunderstanding of the lives of Chinese people. I remember an American institution released the Chinese people's ~Rule Report and took several sets of photos. It may be a rural family eating fried leeks around the table. Then it was accompanied by a text next to it, saying, 'Farmers in western China live in dire straits, eating wild grasses and living."

"There is another TV station in Canada or another country, saying that China only has 300,000 powerful people who can afford Coke... You say these contents are ridiculous or not, but many people in developed Western countries still believe it. Their understanding of China has been in the last century and they still believe that China cannot support its own people, and is poor and backward."

"To be honest, although I have been praised by many people in the United States, I still feel a little out of place. Their feeling is like you are from a backward country and joining them in developed countries. In fact, I just make money, and I think China has more business opportunities now than anywhere in the world."

"Why is this happening? We think that all kinds of good lives in the Western world, and foreigners think that we can't afford to drink coke? Because Western countries can promote their movies, TV series, documentaries, and various types of cultural publicity are very good, and it brings out its own good side to promote it."

"Look at China again, why did the General Secretary say that we should improve our soft power during a meeting? Because we don't know how to show ourselves, our lives are getting better and better, and everyone is aiming for a well-off life, but others don't know. Our previous movies were not bad for making rural themes. Many of them had strong artistic nature. Such movies should have, which is our humanistic tradition, but we have too few movies that show modern life and cannot be sold."

"This is why I like to make commercial films. I think I can take this opportunity to show the changes in China in all aspects and let the world see China. Oh, look, the magic capital is so beautiful, a world-wide metropolis, this is China. We are going to hold the Olympics. I was discussing with Zhang Yimou a while ago how to arrange the opening ceremony. I said to bring the army to rehearse, and we must show the best side to the world."

"The China on the Bite of the Tongue" is also my idea. Didn't you say that we rural people are still eating grass? I'll show you how our rural families live, how beautiful our working people, and Chinese people are. You can also see the Chinese living overseas. When the motherland is strong, you must have more confidence and live well outside, right?"
