Chapter VII Entrustment
The traveler couldn't bear to see Xuanzang gradually losing his vitality, so he turned his head and looked out of the palace.
At this moment, a golden light flashed in his eyes.
"He's here."
The traveler finally knew where the mysterious feeling in his heart came from.
Yes, he is indeed waiting for a guest.
Like Master Xuanzang, he was waiting for this guest.
Have been waiting for a long time.
The traveler even doubted whether Master Xuanzang could have persisted until now if he hadn't wanted to see this guest in his heart.
The essence in the mage's body has long been exhausted, and it is purely supported by a sense of obsession.
Among the vast mountains, black dragons jumped out of the horizon like flames.
All the scenery became blurred in front of Longzi, turning into fierce afterimages and flying backwards.
Su Dawei stepped on Long Zi's back and suddenly felt a wonderful sense.
As soon as he looked up, his eyes passed through dozens of miles of space, colliding with someone in Yuhua Palace at the end of his sight.
Su Dawei pulled the reins of the dragon son suddenly.
The dragon horse under him suddenly stood up, his hooves stomped in the air, making a deafening roar.
The sound is like thunder, conveying from afar.
Su Dawei beat the dragon's son, and the man and the horse turned into a black lightning, stepping on the withered and yellow fallen leaves along the ridge, and heading up quickly.
It is early winter, and fortunately it has not yet snowed in the mountains.
The mountain road is quite easy to walk.
A moment later, Su Dawei had already arrived in front of Yuhua Palace.
There was a novice monk guarding the door and ceremoniously saying to Su Dawei: "Is it Su Dawei and donor Su?"
“That’s right.”
Su Dawei jumped down.
The shaman said: "The master and the senior brother of the walker are waiting in the hall, please follow me."
Su Dawei patted Longzi's horse's back and said in his ear: "I'll go see an old friend, you'll wait for me nearby."
Long Zi was spiritual, shook the mane on his neck, nodded at Su Dawei, and hissed lightly.
Turn around and leave.
Su Dawei followed the novice monk into Yuhua Palace.
The palace is magnificent, but Su Dawei has no intention of appreciating it.
A hint of heaviness was faintly felt in my heart.
Is Master Xuanzang's body really not good?
Although I know that many things are destined, a teacher whom I am familiar with and a famous generation of monks in history is watching them fade away step by step.
In my heart, I felt so sad and regretful.
Back then, in Chang'an, I went to Master Xuanzang to sit in countless days and nights, listened to his preaching, and received his guidance and learned many truths.
It also allowed him to move forward a thousand miles a day in the practice of strange people.
It was Master Xuanzang who made him understand that the path of cultivation is not only about physical training, but also about spiritual cultivation.
To "enlightenment", you must keep your mind and mind.
The thoughts in my heart are chaotic, and all kinds of memories and distracting thoughts come one after another.
For a moment, my stable mood was a little shaken.
Su Dawei immediately noticed it, took a deep breath, and suppressed these distracting thoughts.
Walking with the novice monk, he had already passed through the front hall without realizing it.
I soon arrived at a hall in the middle.
But the yard is clean and tidy.
Many silent monks sat on the ground.
There are many wooden racks placed in the courtyard, filled with countless scriptures.
Those monks either study or proofread.
I am helping Xuanzang to translate scriptures together.
Translation of scriptures is a huge project that requires the help of a huge monastic community.
When he saw the novice monk bringing strangers, no one in the yard looked up and was busy with his work.
Su Dawei saw at a glance that a familiar figure stood beside the hall gate.
He speeded up his pace, crossed the novice monk, and came to the walking master: "Senior Brother, Master, Master?"
"Inside, the mage is waiting for you."
The walker's throat squirmed slightly and moved away from his side.
Su Dawei glanced at the walker quickly, feeling that the walker's expression was a little strange.
Different from the past.
But the specific difference is not clear at the moment.
When I stepped into the hall, I felt that the light in front of me was slightly dimmed.
A scent of sandalwood smelled in my nose.
Then he saw Master Xuanzang sitting cross-legged on the futon leaning against the screen wall.
When Su Dawei saw Xuanzang, the other party also opened his eyes and looked at him.
"Master, I'm back."
Su Dawei's heart was slightly shocked, and he quickly stepped up and knelt in front of Xuanzang on one knee.
"You're back, it's great."
Xuanzang's face was full of joy and no one else.
The voice was a little hoarse.
He actively reached out and held Su Dawei's hand: "The ground is cold, get up."
Su Dawei was shocked again.
Xuanzang's hands were skinny and covered with bones.
Moreover, the shriveled and old hand was cold and cold, as if it had no trace of blood.
"Senior Brother Walker, why is the mage's hands so cold? The mage is still sitting cross-legged on the ground, this..."
“Don’t worry.”
Xuanzang used a little force on his hand, trying to pull Su Dawei up.
But he was struggling to sit, and the strength he pulled was not as strong as that of a child.
Su Dawei did not dare to fight against him and hurriedly stood up.
"Master, the ground is cold, can I help you change to a warm place?"
“No need…”
At this moment, the walker couldn't help but speak: "The mage has not yet entered the water for several days."
"Master, how can this make it? It's impossible not to eat."
Su Dawei said anxiously.
As a fourth-rank alien, he now has a great appetite.
Even if he is young and strong, if he doesn't eat for several days, he will become extremely weak.
What's more, Xuanzang's age and body.
Not to mention illness, if you are hungry for a few days, you will have no life.
"I am not hungry."
Xuanzang shook his head firmly and said, "Ami, you are here, it's great, just sit with me for a while."
The uneasiness in Su Dawei's heart became stronger and stronger.
He looked back at the walker in a hurry, but saw that the walker was covered in mist and shook his head slightly.
I know I cannot persuade you.
I could only sigh in my heart and look back at Xuanzang.
I heard that great monks and great masters will have responses and strange phenomena when their lives reach the end.
Master Xuanzang was afraid that he had already known the day of Nirvana.
"Ami, don't think too much. The Buddha said the verse of the Diamond Sutra: All things that are harmonious are like stars, lights, and dew bubbles, dreams, and lightning clouds. You should make such observations."
What Master Xuanzang said was the translation of the "The Diamond Sutra" by him.
There are many translations of the Diamond Sutra, the Kumarajiva version is the most catchy, because Kumarajiva is both proficient in Chinese and has extremely high musical attainments. The translation takes meaning first, and the rhythm is easy to read and easy to remember verses.
However, Master Xuanzang insisted on literal translation.
It means that it is completely based on the original purpose of the Buddhist scriptures in India and does not change its sound and meaning, so as to show the original appearance of the Buddhist scriptures.
Su Dawei pondered for a moment, dragged a cushion, and sat cross-legged in front of Master Xuanzang.
He lowered his head and said, "I wish to listen to the teachings of the master."
"Since the fifth year of Xianqing, I came to Yuhua Palace, I began to translate the Great Prajna Sutra.
This scripture contains 200,000 verses, and the volume is voluminous. The disciples always ask for abridgement and conciseness. I insist on not deleting a word.
By Longshuo this year, he finally finished translating this 600-volume masterpiece."
Xuanzang breathed a breath and said, "After translating this, I felt exhausted. Although there was still no translation of the scriptures of Nogan, there were still disciples who continued to inherit the translation of scriptures. I have no regrets about this."
"Master..."
"Although I practice Buddhism thoroughly, my body has decayed. I have felt that Nirvana is approaching. I am worthy of the Buddha for promoting Buddhism, but I have only one thing..."
"Master, please tell me."
Su Dawei was surprised, wondering what else could Xuanzang remember besides translating the scriptures.
"In the autumn of the third year of Zhenguan, Xiaoda, a monk from Qinzhou, studied the Nirvana Sutra in Chang'an and returned home after studying. Xiaoda and I went to Qinzhou with me. After staying in Qinzhou for a night, I went to Lanzhou with others and then transferred to Liangzhou.
At that time, the Tang Dynasty fought with the Turks and the border was blocked, but I was eager to seek Buddhism and still secretly left the gate.
Try to walk at night, go to Guazhou, then pass through Yumen, cross the five beacons, cross the quicksand, experience the hardships, arrive in Yiwu, and reach Gaochang Kingdom.
There, I was treated to the courtesy of Gaochang King Qu Wentai.
Qu Wentai hoped that I would stay, and promised that the whole country would listen to my teachings, and said that if he did not follow, he would send me back to the Tang Dynasty.
But I replied at that time that the heart of traveling west can only be strong every day, so how can I stop halfway?
And he made a decision on a hunger strike.
In the end, Qu Wentai was moved. Not only did he not make any embarrassment, but he also helped me travel west with the help of the whole country.
I still remember that Qu Wentai gave me four novice monks to serve as a servant.
Making thirty uniforms.
In the west, the land was very cold, and I made face clothes, hand clothes, boots, etc., including 100 taels of gold, 30,000 silver coins, 500 silk and silk, which were used for my 20 years of travel.
And he gave thirty horses and twenty-five people with hand strength."
More than thirty years have passed since the incident, but when Xuanzang talks about these things, every word is clear, as if it were yesterday.
Su Dawei couldn't help but be moved.
Gaochang Primary School, these gold, silver and things, according to Gaochang's national strength, are probably also the accumulation of power.
Qu Wentai was willing to take it out and gave it to Master Xuanzang.
"In addition, Qu Wentai wrote letters to the kings of the 24 kings along the west road, and each book was accompanied by a big silk as a letter."
Su Dawei thought silently in his heart.
The big silk is more expensive than ordinary silk, and twenty-four pieces must be at least 10,000 silver dollars.
"In order to seek help from the Western Turkic Leaf Guard Khan, Qu Wentai offered five hundred silk pieces and two carts of fruity flavor."
When Su Dawei heard this, he was speechless.
This Qu Wentai really has the character of Mengchang in his time.
He gave away all the country's decades of savings at once, and he thought so carefully about Master Xuanzang.
What else can people say except moving?
"Master, I heard that Gaochang..."
"Yes, I returned from studying in Tianzhu. According to the agreement with Qu Wentai, I would stay in Gaochang to preach the Dharma for him for three years. But when I returned on the same road, I realized that Gaochang was no longer here."
Su Dawei knew that Gaochang Kingdom was destroyed by the Tang Dynasty in the 14th year of Zhenguan.
When Master Xuanzang returned to the Tang Dynasty from India, he could have taken the sea route, and there were two Buddhist countries willing to help him.
If you walk on the sea, you will be exempted from a lot of hardships on your journey.
But Master Xuanzang kept in mind the agreement with Gaochang King Qu Wentai more than ten years ago, and walked around tens of thousands of miles and walked on dangerous land only to go to Gaochang Kingdom for three years.
But when he arrived, he realized that there was no Gaochang in the world.
There was only Gaochang County, which was originally located in the Tang Dynasty.
Later it became the Anxi Protectorate of the Tang Dynasty.
As for King Qu Wentai of Gaochang, no one knows his exact whereabouts.
I only knew that it was the prisoner who returned to the Tang Dynasty and moved to another place to settle.
After several twists and turns, the whereabouts are no longer found.
Master Xuanzang's face, which had always been as calm as an ancient well, showed a hint of bitterness.
"I will do my word in this life. Only this thing can not fulfill my promise, which is a pity."
"Master, all the causes and conditions are met, and the impermanence is extraordinary. Why should the mage be attached?"
"How can we say that attachment and non-attachment, emptiness and non-emptiness be so clear."
Xuanzang said with his hands together: "What is the so-called thing for us to study Buddhism in our generation? It is nothing more than the place where the mind is at peace. This thought arises. If you deliberately try to act as empty, you will fall into attachment again.
Ami, I have something to ask for.
"Master, please tell me."
Master Xuanzang was the teacher that Su Dawei admired the most and was also the guide to the Buddhism of the Tang Dynasty.
Su Dawei was willing to do something for Xuanzang in his heart.
