Three hundred and ninety-nine outdated Confucianism
Li Tai fell into deep thought. As Suning said, among the various schools of thought, what is truly meaningful to the present era and the most meaningful to the Tang Dynasty was just a few Confucian, Mohism, Taoism and the Taoist soldiers. The rest were either specializing in academics or not in line with the needs of the Tang Dynasty today. The Tang Dynasty needed so much. Learning based on what the Tang Dynasty needed is the so-called specialization in arts.
So, what should I learn? What kind of knowledge will make me more successful? Perhaps, what kind of knowledge will make me more interested? Li Tai feels that he has not had any real experience, so he cannot make a rash decision. So Li Tai said: "What the teacher said is that the students are very serious, but the students have not been exposed to the hundreds of schools of thought, so I don't know which ones should be better. Can the teacher explain more in detail the content of the six schools of thought, Confucianism, Mohism, Taoism and the Taoist soldiers? "
Suning nodded: "This is also the right thing to do. It is better to know more than a blind man touching an elephant. First of all, the most qualified and most successful straitor. The so-called straitor, that is, diplomats, go to other countries to fight for the best interests of the Tang Dynasty and defeat other countries. During negotiations, they also force other countries to sign treaties that are beneficial to the Tang Dynasty. The enemy's army is approaching and we are in a disadvantageous state. The descendants of the Zongheng will send their straits to the enemy and persuade the enemy to retreat with a perfect tongue. It becomes a meticulous work, lurking inside the enemy, and always preparing to give the enemy a final blow. This is what the descendants of the Zongheng need to learn. What do you think?"
Li Tai thought deeply and shook his head: "I am the king. No matter what, my father will not promise me to be in danger. Once I am in danger, the whole court will make a mess. No matter what aspect, I am not suitable to be a straitor. This is not possible."
Suning nodded, not getting angry because of Li Tai's refusal. On the contrary, Suning felt that Li Tai was very thoughtful, and he would not become a famous figure like the Four Gentlemen of the Warring States Period. As a royal family, he would have to go through the dangers and would not be able to pass that level in the court. Not to mention anything else, so it is a wise choice not to be a wise master.
Suning continued: "That's fine, not being a traitor, or a Legalist, the so-called Legalist. It focuses on governing the country by law, focusing on the point where relatives do not recognize each other, not distinguishing between relatives, and not distinguishing between noble and humbleness. Once you break the law, just like this, from Shang Yang's reforms. Legalist academics are very suitable for weak countries in endangered situations, such as Qin and Han, Shang Yang and Shen Buhe made Qin and Han powerful through reforms.
However, after the failure of Qin, the experience people summarized was that the Legalists were a technique in troubled times. They adopted strong Legalists in governing the world, and did not use the idea of equality among the people of the Legalists, but only adopted strict laws against ordinary people. In the end, the people in the world were forced to rebel against the people of the world, and the fall of the Qin Dynasty was a flaw of the Legalists. To this day, the Legalists for the Tang Dynasty were in the Ministry of Justice, which used severe punishments and severe laws to punish criminals and crack down on corrupt officials. The main point was the Legalists of the Tang Dynasty, not the people. What do you think?"
Li Tai refused this time faster: "After all, I am still a king. I can do some things, and I can't do some things. This punishing officials is what my father should do, not what I do, so I can't learn from the Legalists either."
Suning nodded: "That's true. Then look at Taoism. The so-called Taoism is actually pure academic. Confucius once studied with Lao Tzu, just to learn Lao Tzu's academics. It can be said that it is a very simple academic sect. Although Taoism is often only used in governing the country in the early years of the founding of the country, it has a very far-reaching influence. It is only with the development of the Tang Dynasty. The significance of Taoism is only academic, not government affairs. If you want to return to government affairs again, it will take at least several hundred years. Are you willing to learn?"
Li Tai was a little surprised. Hundreds of years? Can you see that far? But thinking of His Majesty Li Er's praise of Suning, Li Tai felt that Suning would not speak loudly. There must be Suning's own reasons here, so in the end, Li Tai still believed Suning's words, so Li Tai refused to learn Taoist techniques: "In this way, there is no difference from studying Confucianism. I also like academics when I study Confucianism, not government affairs."
Suning nodded and said, "Very good, then in the end, Confucianism will not talk about it. Are you interested in military strategists? If so, I believe Your Majesty does not mind sending you to the military university to study military tactics, spending time with the generals of the future Tang Dynasty, experiencing inhumane training and tempering, becoming a strong soldier, and giving the last drop of blood to the Tang Dynasty."
Li Tai had a thin bead of sweat on his round head, and then he showed an awkward smile: "Teacher, look at my physique, you will know that I can achieve some academic achievements. If this is placed on the battlefield, well, I don't think my father would let me go to the battlefield, so let's forget about the military ranks..."
Suning also knew Li Tai’s answer, and then smiled and said, “It seems that there is only the last one that is suitable for you to learn, the Mohist art.”
Li Tai frowned and said, "But the world's doubts about this as a strange skill, a trick of tricks, and is a trick of opportunism and despised by righteous people. Don't the teacher understand this? It seems that the teacher highly praised the Mohist arts. Oh, the teacher is not Confucianism, which is reasonable, but now it is still a great success in Confucianism and Taoism. It's not a trick of tricks, but the Mohist arts are a trick of tricks!"
Suning said seriously: "Qingque, I ask you, you have to do one thing, you can use two methods to do this. One method takes one hour to complete, the other method takes two hours to complete, the other method can be done as long as it is very easy, and the other method will make you tired. Which one would you choose?"
Li Tai opened his mouth and wanted to answer, but he was still silent after all. If he chose the first method, it would be contrary to his idea of hating strange skills and tricks. If he wanted to use the second method, it was really tiring and wasting more time. It would be better to kill him if he was tired and worked hard for two hours. So Li Tai fell into silence and entanglement. On the one hand, it was academic philosophy and on the other hand, it was self-awareness. How should he choose this thing?
Suning looked at Li Tai's performance and knew what Li Tai was thinking about, so he smiled and said, "Are you thinking that on the one hand, you really don't want to waste so much time doing something very tiring, but on the other hand, you don't want to use strange skills and tricks to ruin your philosophy. Is that true?"
Li Tai's face changed several times and nodded: "That's true, Master, how should I do this?"
Suning sighed and said, "You have always listened to Confucianism that any craftsmanship is a strange technique and a lust. Anything that helps save energy is the source of laziness. Confucianism hates these craftsmanship because it is afraid that these things will make the people lazy. The intention is good, but to this day, this statement is indeed out of date. They are outdated! As the saying goes, only by keeping pace with the times can we conform to the development of reality today. What we need now and what we don't need is the most important thing.
Nowadays, the Tang Dynasty has a sparse population and a large amount of land. If it is not used with high efficiency new agricultural tools, it is obviously inappropriate. It will exhaust the people in the fields and have no time to do other things. But with agricultural tools, all this is different. At the beginning, our ancestors used the method of slash-and-burn farming to cultivate the fields, which was inefficient and produced very little, so the final birth of agricultural tools. What was the first to be used for and created? It was to save energy and improve efficiency.
Such a principle can be accepted if it is farming, so why can't it be accepted if it is placed in other places? Isn't this a big absurdity in the world? It's like King Xuan of Qi couldn't bear to see a cattle being killed, so he had to replace it with a sheep. Why can't the same principle be accepted if it is placed in different things? The magical technique, in the end, is to save energy, improve efficiency, and make the people live happier. Since that's the case, why not? Let those corrupt scholars go to the ghost! Qingque, what do you think?"
Li Tai's eyes were dull, obviously shocked by Suning's disrespectful speech. Then he fell into deep thought. He was experiencing a fierce ideological struggle in his heart. Suning just sat down, drank water, and waited to see what choice he would make. In fact, Suning also discovered that as a prince, the son of His Majesty Li Er, Li Tai really couldn't do many things, or he didn't need to do it. After choosing, the most suitable thing for Li Tai was to do scientific and technological inventions, etc. In this way, he could use another way to be remembered forever.
But whether to do it depends entirely on Li Tai’s own thoughts. He is willing and teaches himself as much as possible. If he doesn’t want to, he has no choice. Even if he wants, it depends on whether he can get happiness from it. Only by being able to get happiness from it can he achieve success and achieve great achievements, that’s all.
Li Tai finally made Suning relieved. He agreed to learn the Mohist school, of course it was just the Mohist school's mechanism. However, the premise was that he had to see if these so-called mechanisms could make him feel happy. This coincided with Suning. Suning also felt that if he was not happy to learn, he could not learn. He was the prince and would not have to worry about food or clothing in his life, as long as he did not rebel.
In fact, Suning himself has only a slight understanding of the Mohist arts, but those exquisite things are still carpenters and blacksmiths. The dignified prince and the marquis go to be carpenters and blacksmiths? Wouldn't it be a joke if you tell them? So Suning plans to transform Li Tai from the physical and chemical aspects, so that he can become a science monster and a scientific madman. This is the best. Anyway, the Mohist school still has organizations left in the world. If you can find them, you still have to worry about not having the Mohist arts?
Let’s fool Li Tai with physics and chemistry first. Anyway, Mozi’s works also have physics knowledge, which is quite awesome. It’s so awesome that people have to wonder if Mozi is also a time traveler. But unfortunately, no one cares about Mozi’s knowledge after that. I have to say that this is a tragedy. So in the end, we still have to start from the Tang Dynasty and Suning himself. Although he is a liberal arts student, there is still no problem with basic physics and chemistry.
Draw a frame for Li Tai and let him wander and learn from it by himself. When will he be able to form a self-contained and pass on himself, Suning's goal will be achieved.
Suning invited Li Tai to his home and to the most important place in his home to see what Mohist mechanism is. In fact, it is simply the principle of leverage and pulley sets, but it is very labor-saving to use and the efficiency has been greatly improved. Now, with the improvement of skilled craftsmen, simple pulley sets and leverage have become tools that can be quantified production and can be widely used in various construction sites and even building city walls.
