Chapter 26: Arranging Troops

Chapter 26: Arrangements

Relatively speaking, the Syrian army has a more serious problem.

During the 21st battle, the Syrian National Defense Forces were defeated by the Israeli army commanded by Major General Balam, a main division was defeated by three Israeli troops, thousands of main battle tanks were destroyed, and more armored combat vehicles, self-propelled artillery, and military vehicles were abandoned by the Syrian army.[bsp;   A whole week passed, and the Syrian army recovered.

What surprised Qi Kaiwei even more was that the Israeli army actually used the seized equipment

Through the photos taken by the reconnaissance plane, the Israeli army modified at least 300 modified main battle tanks of Type 04 and 99, all equipped with the Israeli army's enemy-to-me recognition device and replaced the paint. In other words, when the Syrian army retreated, it did not blow up the abandoned main battle equipment.

It can be said that this shocked Qi Kaiwei.

You should know that any well-trained unit, even if it is necessary to abandon its main combat equipment, must make it as impossible to be used by the enemy as much as possible. For example, on the battlefield of the Sinai Peninsula, the Israeli army did this when retreating, and none of the main combat equipment fell into the hands of the Egyptian army intact.

Fortunately, this has no serious negative consequences.

Although the Type 04-type 140 tank gun is the same caliber as the fifth-generation Western tank gun, the specifications of the medicine room are different and the ammunition cannot be universal. The 99 switched to the 125 tank gun, which can use Russian ammunition, and Israel does not have such ammunition, so it cannot be used on a large scale.

According to the information provided by the Syrian army, there was not much ammunition seized by the Israeli army.

Without ammunition, these tanks can play very limited roles.

Of course, the most fortunate thing is that the 24th style did not fall into the hands of the Israeli army.

When the Israeli army launched a counterattack on the 21st, the two Syrian army equipped with Type 24 tanks were deployed near Damascus. Without contact with the Israeli army, they did not lose their equipment. According to the original plan, these two divisions will participate in the battle as reserves. That is to say, if the Israeli army attacked on the night of the 22nd or early morning of the 23rd, then these two divisions will appear near the Golan Heights.

For the Syrian army, the biggest problem is not the lack of equipment, but the lack of fighting spirit.

Fortunately, this problem has faded.

The victory of the Egyptian army on the Sinai Peninsula not only broke the myth of the undefeated Israeli army, but also greatly inspired the Syrian army. Although the Syrian army was not carried away, it had regained confidence and no longer regarded the Israel Defense Force as an invincible opponent.

The arrival of Qi Kaiwei at this time also improved the morale of the Syrian army.

In addition to assisting the Egyptian army in recapturing the Sinai Peninsula, it was also related to his work as a military adviser in Syria for more than a year and helping Syria carry out military reforms. Although Syria's military reforms were not thorough, and by the time the war broke out, many reform measures were not implemented, Qi Kaiwei's efforts paid off, and they also won the trust of Syrian soldiers, and established a very high prestige.

At that time, what Qi Kaiwei had to solve first was the internal problems of the Syrian army, especially morale and fighting spirit.

After meeting with Assad, Qi Kaiwei left Damascus and took turns to inspect the brigade-level troops of the Syrian army, and personally learned about the situation from the commander of the Syrian army.

At the same time, the Syrian army also returned to the front line.

By the afternoon of September 30, the Syrian army deployed near the Golan Heights had reached four divisions, and eight divisions served as reserves in the rear.

Although the battle has not started yet, everyone knows that the Golan Heights will become the new focus.

At this time, the Israel Defense Forces' situation was not ideal.

Although the United States has agreed to provide assistance, not only has it urgently transported a batch of ammunition and drug supplies, but also provided a large number of main combat equipment to Israel by sea, the fleet will not arrive until October 3rd. Before that, the Israel Defense Forces could only rely on the remaining main combat equipment.

After the bloody battle on the Sinai Peninsula, the remaining main combat equipment of the Israeli army could only arm eight standing brigades and four reserve brigades.

According to data released after the war, at that time, there were only 420 "Mekava 6", more than 800 "Mekava 5", less than 1,000 "Mekava 4" and "Mekava 3", and nearly 400 captured main battle tanks. The situation of other main battle equipment, such as armored vehicles, was similar. The Sinai Peninsula retreated, and the Israeli army was forced to abandon hundreds of thousands of main battle equipment, and less than one-quarter of the retreat. Relatively speaking, the Israeli artillery situation was slightly better, and about two-thirds of large-caliber artillery and rocket launchers were preserved. Other non-front-line main battle equipment, such as air defense missiles, were not too small to retain engineering vehicles.

The problem is that the IDF must fight on both sides.

With less than 3,000 main battle tanks and more than half are third-generation main battle tanks, the Israel Defense Forces' situation is very dangerous.

Not to mention anything else, four standing brigades and more than three times the reserve brigades must be retained on the southern border defense line.

It can be said that this is still a very conservative deployment method. If the Egyptian army completes the deployment within a week, the IDF will have to increase troops to the southern border. Therefore, a large part of the main combat equipment provided by the United States should be used to strengthen the southern troops.

The main combat equipment that can be truly used on the Golan Heights will definitely not be much more.

On the last day of September, the IDF made adjustments to its deployment.

In order to consolidate the southern border defense line, four permanent brigades previously stationed in the Golan Heights were drawn out and replaced by four reserve infantry brigades. As a result, Major General Baram had only four permanent brigades left, and only eight reserve infantry brigades could be used.

Fortunately, the First Infantry Brigade, the Seventh Armored Brigade and the 188th Armored Brigade were both stayed.

According to the battle report of the Israel Defense Force, by October 1, the twelve brigades deployed in the Golan Heights had only 360 "Mekava 6", 240 "Mekava 5", 460 "Mekava 4" and "Mekava 3". In addition, four reserve infantry brigades obtained about 300 captured main battle tanks, a total of about 1,400 main battle tanks.

Opposite the Israeli army, the twelve divisions in Syria have a total of nearly 3,000 main battle tanks.

In addition to the quantity gap, the quality gap is also very obvious.

The two ace divisions of the Syrian army, namely the Third Armored Division and the Seventh Armored Division, were equipped with 760 Type 24 units, two standing divisions were equipped with 480 Type 04 and 260 Type 99 modifications, eight reserve divisions were equipped with 1,500 99 modifications, and 96 modifications and T series main battle tanks. Although the T series, namely T-72 and 0s, accounted for about one-third, after deducting these long-lost tanks, the armor advantage of the Syrian army is still very obvious.

Of course, even t-72 and 0s are threats big enough.

After receiving China's military aid, the Syrian Army used the technology provided by China to modernize the T-72 and 0s, mainly by replacing the tank gun made in China, and unified ammunition with 99 and 96. When using the latest tungsten alloy long-pole armor-piercing bomb, it can penetrate the front armor of the "Mekava 6" within 1,500 meters and the "Mekava 5" within 2,500 meters. On the Golan Heights with complex terrain, the combat distance of the tanks is rarely more than 2,000 meters, and often less than 500 meters. In other words, even if the protection of the T-72 and 0s is not strong enough, there is enough opportunity to kill the Israeli tanks.

Taking these factors into consideration, as long as the Syrian Army rebuilds confidence, it will be able to defeat the Israel Defense Forces.

Of course, the war is fighting for comprehensive strength, not just armored forces. However, on the Golan Heights, armored forces are still the absolute main force due to the limitations of the relatively unique terrain. Not to mention, due to the influence of the mountains, it is difficult for Israeli Air Force fighters to destroy ground armored forces through long-distance air strikes like on the Sinai Peninsula. When close-range bombing, fighters will face a mobile field air defense system, and their combat efficiency will definitely not be much higher. More importantly, by this time, there will be very few Israeli Air Force fighters left.

According to the information released after the war, as early as the early morning of the 28th, the United States stated that it could urgently provide Israel with a batch of fighter jets, mainly F-35 and F-22 series, while F-44 had just been mass-produced. The US military only equipped less than a hundred aircraft and could not assist Israel. The problem is that Israel did not receive US aid, not that Israel did not need it, but that it did not have suitable pilots. At that time, Israel hoped that the United States could appoint a batch of pilots to participate in the war, or to fight for the Israeli army by hiring, but the United States rejected this request because it was likely that China would overreact and also volunteer to join the Air Force.

If both China and the United States fought a "voluntary war", they would definitely not be limited to the air battlefield.

To put it bluntly, as long as Chinese and American military personnel directly participate in the combat operations, the situation will lose control, and the next step is to send ground troops to the war.

By then, no one can stop the world war from breaking out.

That's why, besides the twelve brigades left to Major General Baram, there are only armed helicopter units that have not played a significant role in the battlefield before.

Because Israel's armed helicopters are under the name of the Air Force, they do not belong to the Army Air Force.

It can be said that this is also the only advantage of the IDF in the Golan Heights, because the Syrian army does not have a few decent gun helicopters. More importantly, the Chinese team is more inclined to use attack aircraft to perform close-range ground strike missions and anti-armor tasks, so there are no real armed helicopters. The main equipment of the Army's aviation is inclined rotary wing aircraft, and it mainly performs transportation tasks. At that time, the Syrian Army had only 30 52 "Clancer" gun helicopters introduced from Russia, as well as about 100 light reconnaissance helicopters capable of carrying anti-tank missiles, while the Israeli Air Force had more than 100 AH-64d gun helicopters.

Obviously, the IDF has a great advantage in the battle for treetop heights.

It can be said that this is also the first tactical problem that Qi Kaiwei must face...
