Chapter 27 The Roots of Turmoil

.Chapter 27 The roots of turmoil

Vietnam's invasion of Laos was the second major turning point in this local war.

On the night of the 25th, the Lao authorities issued a message claiming that they would use all their strength to defeat the invading Vietnamese army, and call on all peace-loving countries to jointly condemn Vietnam, help Laos resist foreign invasions, and contribute to peace and stability in Southeast Asia.

The first response was naturally China.

In the early morning of the 26th, Chinese Premier Li Pingko announced at a temporary press conference that China would send troops as an allies in Laos to help Laos fight.

Four hours later, the Chinese Ministry of Defense issued an announcement that it would launch a ground war with the goal of punishing Vietnam.

At this time, Cambodia and Myanmar have responded to Laos' call, and both promised to follow China to send troops to help Laos fight together.

However, Western countries' reactions were not positive.

In an interview with reporters, the US Secretary of State mentioned that Laos has declared war on Vietnam. Even if the Lao army does not cross the border, the Vietnamese army's cross-border operations are not considered a military invasion. The US Secretary of State later emphasized that the United States will not intervene in military conflicts in Southeast Asia, but will contribute to peace and stability in Southeast Asia and actively promote the warring parties to hold armistice negotiations as soon as possible.

Obviously, the attitude of the United States has changed.

When military aid was unable to reach Vietnam, the United States chose to retreat.

According to some information released later, in this war, the United States provided military assistance to Vietnam was limited to intelligence and military advisers. Although the US Navy had sent two aircraft carrier battle groups to Singapore before May 20 and deployed two aircraft carrier battle groups in Australia and Guam in Guam, the US fleet had not entered the South China Sea and did not take any provocative actions.

At that time, all the US military could do was send early warning planes to the Gulf of Thailand to monitor the combat operations of Chinese fighter jets.

Faced with China's threat of large-scale war, the Vietnamese authorities not only did not give in, but immediately claimed that they would fight to the last moment to defend the country.

However, China's political actions have not ended.

On the afternoon of the 26th, Li Pingko met with representatives of well-known Vietnamese people living in China at the State Council and jointly discussed the future development prospects of Vietnam.

It was during this meeting that Li Pingko made a commitment to the Vietnam Travel Association represented by Ruan Yujie to help establish a regime.

For most Chinese people, Ruan Yujie is a very unfamiliar name, but in Vietnam, Ruan Yujie is a household name.

As a descendant of the Nguyen Dynasty, Nguyen Yujie's childhood was not happy. Before the age of 18, in order to avoid political persecution, he even changed his surname to Wu. It was not until thirty-four years ago, after the reform and opening up in Vietnam, Nguyen Yujie restored his original surname and became the first group of folk merchants.

In the following ten years, Nguyen Yujie was mainly engaged in trade with China and appeared on the cover of Fortune magazine in 2004. By 2008, he was the richest man in Vietnam and the largest smuggling merchant in Vietnam. More than 80% of smuggled goods in Vietnam were related to him.

During the subsequent financial crisis, Vietnam's economy fell into a vicious cycle of high inflation and low growth, and the Vietnamese government began to vigorously rectify corruption. In 2010, on the eve of the incident, Nguyen Yujie left to China. Relying on strong capital, Nguyen Yujie became the most famous Vietnamese businessman in China within five years and established the Vietnam Travel Association. Although the Vietnamese government repeatedly proposed to extradite Nguyen Yujie during this period, the Chinese government refused on the grounds of avoiding political persecution.

In fact, Nguyen Yujie's smuggling activities in Vietnam are basically related to Vietnamese senior management.

According to some later information released, between 1998 and 2010, Nguyen Yujie benefited nearly US$30 billion from smuggling, of which US$24 billion flowed into the hands of Vietnamese senior executives in various ways, and his personal assets were less than US$2 billion.

Vietnam deals with Nguyen Yujie in the name of rectifying corruption, which is obviously suspected of political persecution.

China's intention to win over Ruan Yujie at this time was very obvious.

In the afternoon of the same day, the Vietnamese authorities protested, believing that Li Pingko met with Ruan Yujie to interfere in Vietnam's internal affairs and support pro-China forces.

Obviously, the Vietnamese authorities are not wrong.

On the 27th, Nguyen Yujie, as a Vietnamese civilian, released a list of bribes taken by senior Vietnamese government officials, including Vietnam's top leader.

According to the bill he provided, the family assets of Vietnam's top leaders exceeded 15 billion US dollars.

Subsequently, several Vietnamese people traveling to China publicly claimed that they had been in exile to China only after being politically persecuted at home, and that their personal safety has been threatened.

In the afternoon of the same day, Ruan Yujie launched the "Million-Tour Expatriate Joint Activities".

This activity has only one purpose: to prove the illegality of the Vietnamese regime.

Since China launched a political war, Vietnam naturally would not sit still and wait for death.

On the morning of the 27th, the Vietnamese supreme leader issued a top-secret order: arrest and detain the families of major expatriates such as Nguyen Yujie.

In the eyes of Vietnamese leaders, doing so can at least stabilize the domestic situation.

The result was contrary to expectations.

When Vietnamese military and police began a large-scale search, the news leaked out immediately, and the reports of Vietnamese authorities persecuting innocent people became the front page news on the 28th.

Now, Western countries can't sit still.

No matter what the reason is, the Vietnamese authorities should not point the gun at innocent people, even if they are relatives and friends of Ruan Yujie and others.

It can be said that the actions of the Vietnamese authorities further prove the illegality of the Vietnamese regime.

A legal government will never do such a thing.

On the morning of the 28th, Li Pingko appeared in front of reporters again and released a major news: Given that the domestic situation in Vietnam has completely lost control, China will speed up the speed of its military offensive and strive to help Vietnam restore normal order as soon as possible and contribute to peace and stability in Southeast Asia.

Half an hour later, Huang Zhibo issued a combat order to Mu Haoyang.

Although it's a little late, it's better to be late than not.

At 10 o'clock in the morning of the 28th, Mu Haoyang issued a combat order to Zhao Yuanren, and the ground attack began immediately.

Fifteen minutes later, the 13th Army and the 14th Army were the first to prepare for artillery fire. At half past ten, the 41st Army, which had been deployed to the southeastern Cambodia, also began to prepare for artillery fire before the attack, and the Air Force dispatched all-out, dispatching 1,200 combat aircraft within an hour. On the sea surface of the South China Sea, two aircraft carrier battle groups that were ready to go also joined the battle, dispatching nearly 100 carrier-based fighter jets.

What is going on in politics is not something Mu Haoyang needs to care about.

All he had to do was to fight the last battle.

At twelve o'clock, the 13th Army launched an attack in the direction of Laojie, and then the 14th Army launched an attack in the direction of Liangshan.

At 130 p.m., the 41st Army crossed the Cambodia-Vietnam border and invaded Vietnam.

In order to cooperate with the army's operations and prevent the Vietnamese army from conducting large-scale strategic mobilization, the Marine Corps concentrated its troops to launch a counterattack in the direction of Guangpingxi at 2:30 pm.

Accompanying the Chinese army to launch an attack, an infantry division of the Cambodian Army was also an army.

That night, a battalion of the Lao Army participated in the combat operations in the direction of Laojie, and an infantry battalion sent by Myanmar also appeared on the northern battlefield.

At this point, Vietnam's defeat became a matter of time.

Although the Vietnamese army had already been on high alert, they could not raise their heads in front of the Chinese Army.

Before dawn on the 29th, the 13th Army and the 14th Army successively captured Laojie and Liangshan, opening the gateway to Vietnam. The 41st Army then captured the Eiyouxia in the northwest of Ho Chi Minh City, and the Marine Corps surrounded nearly 30,000 remnants of the Vietnamese army on the north bank of Guangping River.

As the saying goes, defeat is like a mountain of defeat.

With the five main forces going to the third, the Vietnamese army collapsed faster than the Chinese army advanced.

According to several US military advisers, by the afternoon of the 29th, the Vietnamese army lost their fighting spirit. Many front-line soldiers ignored the officer's orders, and deserted soldiers appeared in various grassroots troops. Some troops near the front even mutinized. After subduing the officers, the soldiers took the initiative to surrender to the Chinese army.

Given that the Vietnamese army has collapsed, the US authorities have had to withdraw military advisers and diplomats in Vietnam.

On May 30, the evacuation in the United States began.

In order to avoid accidental injury, the Chinese Air Force has opened two air corridors in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City for US diplomatic planes to pass through.

All the Americans have withdrew, and the Vietnamese leaders who are delusional to win the war are even more afraid to count on anything.

At that time, the airports in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City were almost crowded with panicked Vietnamese, and most of them were immediate relatives of senior Vietnamese leaders.

For political reasons, the United States extended a helping hand.

Within two days, in addition to more than 400 military advisers, more than 200 diplomats, and more than 1,200 Americans traveling to Vietnam, the US military also used strategic transport aircraft to pick up nearly 3,000 Vietnamese, including the top Vietnamese leader, and provided political asylum for these people.

According to later information, during this retreat, the United States also transported 400 tons of gold from Vietnam.

Because these golds are state-owned property of Vietnam, and the United States did not declare war on Vietnam, it would have no right to confiscate it, so only a few people knew about the gold transport, and all were stored in a secret military base. Since then, Vietnam and the United States have fought over the ownership of this batch of gold for decades.

Now, the Vietnamese army collapsed faster.

On the night of May 31, less than half an hour after the last American transport plane left Hanoi, the vanguard of the 14th Army invaded Hanoi International Airport.

This situation is exactly the same as Saigon more than 60 years ago.

Although they are two different regimes, both regimes are defeated by ambition and greed.

The difference is that the war more than 60 years ago lasted for more than ten years, and this war lasted for less than a month.

The victory came so quickly that many of the war plans formulated by Mu Haoyang were useless, such as the strategic bombing against Vietnam was only one-third.

Maybe, this is not a bad thing.

When the new regime was born, it was not facing a devastated situation, but a semi-modern country that already had a certain industrial foundation...
