Chapter 1109: Victory

164 famous people including Ma Xulun, Tao Xingzhi and others jointly wrote a letter to Lao Chiang, the US presidential envoy, the Democratic League, the Al Shabaab, and the Communist Party, demanding joint efforts to stop the civil war.

The CCP responded quickly, and Mr. Zhou replied: The Communist Party of China is willing to negotiate peacefully, democratically, unite and unify, and hopes to have a long-term truce and resolute the struggle forever.

In mid-June, the Chinese Communist Party delegation sent a letter to the Kuomintang, proposing to announce a long-term armistice in the Northeast, but was rejected by the Kuomintang.

After carefully analyzing the development of the situation, the Party Central Committee pointed out that Chiang Kai-shek was preparing to fight, and the People's Liberation Army must defeat Chiang's army's offensive in order to strive for a future of peace.

After completing the preparations for the civil war, the Kuomintang brazenly launched a full-scale attack on the liberated areas, threatening to eliminate the People's Army led by the Communist Party within three to five months.

On June 26, 220,000 Kuomintang troops attacked eastern Hubei and southern Henan Central Plains Liberated Area, and a full-scale civil war broke out

Along with the civil war, the CCP delegation, Shanghai people's groups, and Shanghai cultural circles all spoke out, calling for peace and immediately ceased to fight. It was pointed out that only when the United States stopped aiding Chiang Kai-shek, peace in China was possible.

Zhou Wuhao came to Shanghai again in mid-July to inform the leaders of the China Democratic League of China about the peace talks in Nanjing. The next day, Zhou Wuhao met with reporters at No. 107 Masi South Road, pointing out that the government mobilized more than 12 troops to attempt to encircle and annihilate the Communist Party of China's army in northern Jiangsu. The civil war was by no means the CCP took the initiative.

Feng Wu is now starting to pay attention to the current situation. He reads newspapers and listens to the radio every day. Various news, especially the Kuomintang’s “sharp offensive”, which made him very worried: “Mr. Hu, do you think civil war can be avoided?”

Hu Xiaomin said confidently: "No. This can be predicted before the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan."

Feng Wu said: "Now there is news of the victory of the Kuomintang army everywhere."

The cities that our army originally occupied were captured by the Kuomintang, which made him very worried.

"We have seen the combat effectiveness of the New Fourth Army in Jiangsu. By the late stage of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the combat effectiveness of the New Fourth Army was not inferior to that of the Japanese army. As for the puppet army, even our local armed forces were not as good as those of us. Although the Kuomintang troops were also trained during the War of Resistance Against Japan, their combat effectiveness was damaged. Moreover, the troops who fought well in the War of Resistance Against Japan may not like to fight civil wars. Our army's current concessions are not only to confuse the enemy in tactical terms, but also to win the lead strategically. You only see the Kuomintang constantly conquering cities, but not to notice their losses. Our army is constantly consuming the vitality of the Kuomintang army and constantly accumulating strength, but they are already very dispersed because the front line is too long."

As early as during the War of Resistance Against Japan, Hu Xiaomin knew that there must be a war between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. At the beginning, he was still very worried about our party. After 1944, he began to become very confident.

Feng Wu said firmly: "I understand, the final victory must belong to us."

The CCP has been launching a public opinion war, and the Kuomintang finally realized it after the civil war broke out. Shanghai Wenhui Po was ordered to suspend publication for seven days because it called for peace and advocated democracy, and continued to report on the murder of famous democratic figures in Kunming.

The Military Intelligence Administration Shanghai New District received an order from Nanjing to monitor all newspapers and other news organizations in the city. The city’s party department is responsible for guiding public opinion, proposing requirements such as allowing the CCP to give up elected local governments and hand over the troops.

The Military Control Commission’s surveillance of the city’s news organizations is reported to the municipal government every day, and Hu Xiaomin also goes to the municipal government for meetings every morning.

Because the Kuomintang army "wins step by step" on the front line, many people are very optimistic and think that the CCP will be finished soon. Optimistically, it is estimated that the battle will be over in three months, and conservatives also believe that the Communist Party can be eliminated within the year.

After all, the current national army has strong US military assistance, and millions of troops have been baptized by the War of Resistance. The troops returning from China, Myanmar and India have received American training. How could the Communist army be the opponent of the national army?

On the side of the Kuomintang, Hu Xiaomin is the most "optimistic" faction. He feels that the National Army can defeat the People's Liberation Army in at most three months, and even in less than three months, the Communist army will collapse.

Wu Guoqing has never valued Hu Xiaomin very much, but he still agrees with his attitude.

So when Zhang Xiangqing of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China came up with a report issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, "Smashing the Kuomintang's offensive with the Self-Defense War", Wu Guoqing and Zhang Xiangqing were very dissatisfied.

In this report by the Communist Party of China, the Kuomintang undermines the armistice agreement and is now in the Northeast. North China is launching a large-scale attack on us. Only after the Kuomintang's offensive was completely crushed in the war of self-defense, can the Chinese people restore peace.

Although the Kuomintang has American aid, people are not happy, their morale is not high, and their economic difficulties. Although we do not have foreign aid, people are in a position to return, their morale is high, and there is a way for the economy.

Zhang Xiangqing said with great concern at the meeting of the municipal government: "The Communist Party believes that they can defeat the national army and are very confident in this. We must be vigilant and fight in the workers, petty bourgeoisie and so-called democrats whom the Communist Party wants to unite, as well as those who oppose the civil war, to do a good job of appeasement and isolate the Communist Party in order to finally achieve victory."

As soon as Zhang Xiangqing finished speaking, Hu Xiaomin, who was sitting opposite him, mocked: "If the Communist Party can defeat the national army, it will not be beaten to pieces. Now they can only hide in the countryside and survive and eventually be completely eliminated by us. Of course, if someone in the Communist Party surrenders, we can also leave the Communist Party, but they cannot control the army, let alone the regime!"

Zhang Xiangqing shook his head and said softly: "We are now only attacking the cities that the Communist Party has seized before, but in order to seize these cities, the Kuomintang paid a great price. The Communist Party returned to their liberated areas, which are more difficult to occupy than cities. Even if it can be occupied in the short term, it cannot be occupied for a long time. The Japanese were not able to do that back then, let alone us."

It should be said that Zhang Xiangqing was still very clear. At least, he was not lost because of the victory of the National Army. On the contrary, he was also very clear that the People's Liberation Army was difficult to deal with. There were even some meanings that the Japanese army had been defeated. Will the National Army be defeated?

Hu Xiaomin said sarcastically: "Director Zhang seems to be speaking for the Communist Party. Could it be that the Communist Party's united front work has been done to you?"

His role within the Kuomintang was to ban people with clear minds like Zhang Xiangqing.

Zhang Xiangqing sneered: "We are old opponents with the Communist Party. Before that, when they only had tens of thousands of people, we were unable to completely eliminate them. Now they have millions of troops, how can they eliminate them in three months? To put it bluntly, if you really fight, you don't know who will win or lose."

Hu Xiaomin roared: "Zhang Xiangqing! How dare you stand on the side of the Communist Party? It's simply nonsense!"
