Chapter 3 Relics

"My sailor is dead again, and dies in the hands of those things. How long will it take for such a life to end? I am so tired of holding on.

I have time to wonder, is it that I have died long ago and this is hell?

But it is impossible to think about it. The demons in hell are much cuteer than those things. Everything here is illogical, including the humans here.

When I first came here, I thought the development stage here was the early stage of the Industrial Revolution, but later I realized that they also pointed out a lot of technological points on the mysterious side.

But even this is useless. Humans still live like ants. There are too many deadly things in the dark. We are not the only group civilization here."

Charles' diary was interrupted by a knock on the door, and the voice of sailor Dipp came from outside.

"Captain, the main coral island is coming."

Charles walked to the bow of the boat and looked at the lighthouse that appeared and disappeared in the darkness in the distance. He felt relieved. No matter what, he finally arrived.

As the mouse slowly approached, a huge island behind the lighthouse gradually became clear.

The grayish whiteness of coral rock is the main color of the island, and the various human houses located on it are also of the same color.

The Coral Islands ports looked busy, steamboats of all sizes came in and out. The rough sailors waved their hats and cheered, celebrating that they were alive again.

This is a newly developed new island. An island that can provide human survival cannot be achieved by relying on coral alone. It requires resources from other islands, which is also the source of survival for cargo ships such as the Mouse.

Among the passing crowds on the pier, many people had their ears curled inward, and those were natives from the Coral Islands.

As long as you live in the Coral Islands for more than five years, human ears will curl inward for unknown reasons, and no one knows why.

However, this does not stop other islands from keen to immigrate to this side. Compared with the troubles of other islands, ear deformation is the slightest side effect.

After quickly handing over to the administrator, Charles walked out of the dock with a somewhat ugly expression.

He expected that the goods were half reduced, and not only did he not make any profits, he also lost 50,000 echoes. These two months were in vain.

It takes a while for the dock to dispatch supplies, which is a short time for the crew of the Mouse to rest.

Near the pier is a row of buildings of different heights, some of which are hotels for crew members to rest and more places to relax.

On the bustling street are some ragged beggars, who either lie down or lie down and say words that only they understand.

These are all crew members driven crazy by the sea. No one knows what they have experienced. If they don’t want to become like them, they can only remember the iron law of the sea, not watch, listen or think.

They are lucky because in most cases, crew members who were shipwrecked had to go missing with the ship.

The door of the Bat Inn was pushed open, and in the brightly lit hall, a group of strong men who were drinking were looking at the new guy with bad intentions.

But when they smelled the fishy smell of Charles's body, they changed their eyes as if nothing had happened. It was not easy for them to mess with the guys who could still come back alive in the sea.

"I'm going to stay for 5 days, and have another portion of food to deliver to my house."

"5-day housing 630 echo coins, delicious bread and mushroom soup 30, a total of 660."

In the humid room, Charles enjoyed lunch. The food in the underground world was not much better. Charles tore the black bread into a few slices and threw it into the sticky mushroom soup.

Even though he had soaked in soup, the bitter black bread was still very loud, but he was already used to it.

Charles took out a cell phone from his arms, and slashed it with his fingers while eating food. The scratched screen was always dark like the sky outside.

The only thing left in the single room was Charles' slow chewing sound.

"Captain, are you inside?" Old John's voice suddenly came in from outside the door.

Charles quickly put away his phone, "Come in, the door is not closed."

The first mate walked in carefully, with a little apology on his face. "Captain, I want to tell you that I don't want to do it anymore."

Charles frowned slightly. "Why? Haven't you seen such things too much?"

Every time a crew member dies and someone wants to leave, he is mentally prepared. He originally thought that the most likely one was Dipp who was scared to pee his pants, but he didn't expect that this person was the old John who accompanied him all the way.

John waved his hands repeatedly, "I'm too old. When I was at the helm, I fell asleep sometimes. I wanted to stay away from the sea."

Charles' mood became worse, but he did not try to keep him and parted ways.

He placed a small stack of banknotes on the table, "This is yours."

John took his reward, but did not turn around and leave, standing there hesitating.

"Is there anything else?"

"Haha, Captain, you know, although I saved a little, most of my previous money was spent on those girls. This little money was not enough for me to spend the rest of my life."

"What? You don't want me to sponsor a part of it?"

"No, no, no, of course I know this is impossible. I have a good thing here to sell to you. Anyway, I've gotten off the boat, so I can't use this weapon anymore."

John said as he took out a black knife with a length of forearm, saying that it was more like a large dagger.

Charles glanced at the fat old man in front of him in confusion. It was true that this sword was the first mate's weapon, but he was not short of melee weapons.

"Captain, don't underestimate this knife, it's a relic!"

Charles had heard of these mysterious things before, but had never seen them.

There are many different opinions on the origin of the relics, some say they come to the ocean, some say they come to the legendary land of light, and some say they come to the unexplored islands. Whatever their origin is, it is certain that these things have special powers.

This kind of special and strange thing requires a price to use them, and the price of different powers is also different.

Charles once saw a ring worth 580,000 at the British Island auction. It can keep the wearer invisible for a short time, at the cost of being unbearable itching all over the wearer.

"What's special about this knife?"

Seeing Charles ask a question, John immediately felt energetic.

"This weapon is very sharp, very sharp." He looked at the surrounding furniture with a long knife and seemed to try it out, as if he wanted to try something.

"Thank you, no, I still think the gun is easier to use."

It is indeed a bit weak to rely on the revolver to deal with those monsters. Charles wants some relics to defend himself, but he doesn't want a waste of money.

Although the technology tree in the Earth and Sea world is a bit crooked, some large islands are powered on. In a world with guns and cannons, what is the use of a magic weapon? What's more, a weapon with side effects.

Seeing that Charles was not buying, Old John was a little anxious, "Captain, it has other special abilities. As long as you hold it, your body's healing ability will be accelerated."

"Two? Then what is its price?" Relics are very strange. The benefits and disadvantages are not equal. Sometimes, the benefits are only a little bit, but the cost of side effects can make the owner of the relic worse than death.

"It's not particularly serious. If you hold it for a long time, you will feel the urge to commit suicide. Usually, you just need not hold it."

Charles took the black knife and found that it was unexpectedly light. The knife did not seem to be iron, and it was similar to plastic when holding it in his hand.

After slashing the tip of the knife on the hand, the wound was indeed healing slowly, but it was not that exaggerated, at most three times that of normal.

"The price is acceptable, the benefits are not bad. I don't have a boat doctor on my boat, so this thing can make up for this defect to some extent."

Charles decided to buy the knife. He sharpened the knife and chopped wood. He still had to spend money.
