Chapter 7 The path you choose

Dinner is horse meat.
The griffin's meat is both dry and dry, and it has never been a good choice for food. Without wasting horse meat, griffin was dismembered and processed into strips, hung in the castle courtyard and air-dried, leaving it as a reserved meat for winter.
There are no special chefs in Bingfeng Fortress, but it seems that everyone can handle food. Their style is the same: wash it, set up a pot, add water, set up a fire, throw meat and bones in it.
The fat Ramsden brought some seasonings, including garlic, ginger, green onion and powder made from unknown things. He kept skimming off the foam from the broth with a spoon, and threw the seasonings in after it was basically clear.
The restaurant is the hall of the castle. A table is brought in the middle, a few chairs, one big wooden bowl for each person. The wooden bowls here are similar to sea bowls, but they are deeper, and obviously have been in the past. The surfaces are smooth and shiny, but some burnt charred remains in some places.
Giles sat down with the old man Kipling, and then moved a chair by himself. He pointed two positions with his fingers, indicating that it was the place for Feige and Eddie. The older teenager Tron also sat down, while the younger Wumama and Ramsden followed Kelly and stood by the pot to prepare broth for everyone.
"Hey, fat," Kelly pulled Ramsden to his side, lowered his voice and said to him: "Listen, you will take this bowl of soup to that young man in a while."
As he said, he scooped the pot with a spoon, and a urethra slipped into the bowl. Then he found two more pieces of meat to cover it and poured it on the soup: "Remember, if he doesn't eat this, you will clamor and drive that guy away quickly."
"What if he eats it?"
Kelly glared at him and slapped Ramsden on the back of the head: "Boy, do you think he can persist in physical training? I promise to kill him before winter! Don't talk nonsense, be smart."
So the bowl came to Feiqi smoothly.
Everyone sat down, and the old man Kiplin raised his hands to let everyone pay attention, then took the necklace from his neck and raised the holy emblem above it - two lightning bolts were crossed. He said, "We are grateful under the gaze of the goddess:"
"Grateful to the Creator, and the Lord created everything in the world;"
"Thanks to Goddess Thunder for protecting and continuing the existence of all things;"
“Grateful to our fathers for the skills we teach and pass on, so that we can obtain food and shelter;”
"Thank you for each of us for your work, so that we can be worthy of the gains in front of us."
Everyone said together, "Remember." Then the old man put away the holy emblem, picked up the spoon, and everyone could start eating.
This is a relatively simple and common prayer, presided over by the church pastor, and is suitable for situations where both the church and non-congregation are present. There is also a more solemn and complex ritual that is only used for particularly solemn occasions within the church, which takes an hour.
Obviously, there is no need to prepare hot dishes in that case.
Everyone has a big bowl of bone-free broth, a carrot, and black bread, and takes it by themselves. Feiqi looked at the big bowl in front of him and suddenly understood what it means to "happiness is a feeling created through comparison."
The food culture in this world is rough, simple, primitive and low, and there is nothing to praise. It is logically difficult to arouse Fitch's favor. He is not a grasslander from hundreds of years ago and does not eat horse meat at all.
However, after traveling through time, he either rushed on the horse's back (escape), or suffered from a withdrawal reaction. The only thing he had eaten along the way was a chowder, stew, soup, and dry cake, or simply: dry food.
Put everything you can eat, including flour, turnips, minced meat, and cabbage in the pot and boil for two hours. Then, while increasing the amount of flour, place it on a frying pan to dry it. After the moisture has basically disappeared, knead the remaining items into a ball and make "dry food".
You can eat it directly or brew it with light wine to eat it as a paste. There is no bottled water in this world, so the drinks you can safely carry on the trip are actually light wine, and use some alcohol to play a role in anti-corrosion.
It was a horrible food, and Fitch needed to muster up the courage to put it in his mouth every time, and that smell always made him feel in hell immediately.
Happiness depends on comparison, so he looked at the first real hot meal in a few days and felt happy inside.
No need to say anything, eat it! He felt that everything was fragrant, including a piece of meat that tasted like an elastic ball. It became warm from the tongue to the stomach, and the vitality of life slowly filled the weak body.
The bones were gnawed cleanly and placed flat on the table. Feiqi picked up the bowl and poured the soup into his mouth. "Can you have another bowl? This soup is so delicious."
"Of course, just serve whatever you want." Old Man Kipling said with a smile.
Feiqi went to serve another bowl, put more soup and less meat, and also took two garlic from the bottom of the pot. This time he slowly drank the soup with dry and hard black bread, filling himself with it without wasting anything.
No one of the people here was polite to eat, especially the young man from San and a little boy. Xilulu rumbled and gulped, and the dining table was full of this voracious sound. Everyone finished eating soon, and no one wasted.
Food is sacred, a sentence clearly written in the Scriptures of the Goddess of Truth. Therefore, eating together became a sacred ceremony, especially under the auspices of a formal pastor: "We shared the same food from the same pot with the same spoon, and thus formed a family-like connection between us. Even if you are not yet a formal member of us, you will be sheltered under this roof."
After the old man said that, Eddie suddenly stood up. He took out a letter from his chest close to his body and handed it to Old Man Kiplin with both hands.
"The flame blade is the seal ring pattern of the Hall family." The old man checked the seal mud, opened the envelope, and pulled out two pieces of paper from it.
One of the papers was colorful and there were complex pictures on it, and the pictures were covered with various red, green and green seals. The old man squinted his eyes and looked at it, and suddenly said in surprise: "The bills of Latis Bank actually contain two thousand gold coins?"
Kaile stood up suddenly and blurted out the word "ah". Then, he looked at Feiqi with a strange look, then tilted his mouth and sat down again with a tangled expression. Giles took the note handed over by the old man, sniffed it, looked, and nodded.
Eddie rubbed his hands, looking a little nervous. He always followed the instructions to work, and there was almost no situation in his speech: "The master told me that when the young master was protected, he would hand the letter to the person in charge of the fortress. If..."
He stopped, bit his lower lip, and looked at Feich nervously. "What if I was not protected?" Feich asked.
"Then take the young master to run away, hide with the money inside, and hide as much as possible."
Feiqi breathed out, he didn't know about it at all. He had always thought that the less than a hundred gold coins left in his wallet were all his belongings. "Thank you for taking care of me all the way, and didn't run away with the money."
Eddie smiled, his mouth wide open, shook his head repeatedly, and forgot to say "No need to thank you".
"The Earl attaches great importance to and thanks to our work on the frontier. He attaches so much importance that he sent his second son to be trained, and at the same time attached a donation." The old man Kipling explained while reading the letter: "The bills of two thousand gold coins can be withdrawn from branches of the Latis Bank, or can be used as credit mortgage in any bank. At the same time, the Earl will make a portion of the income from a specific manor every year, and use it as training costs for Feich here, with about five hundred gold coins per year."
A farmer who relies entirely on his own strength to cultivate the land, and his annual net income is about fifteen gold coins when the weather is good, without any disease or disaster, will definitely not get so much money, unless he does not support his wife and children, nor does he make some emergency investments for the disaster year. In fact, if Feiqi can accept the living standards of farmers in this era, 500 gold coins per year will be enough to make him leave his labor and live a life of all his life.
"In other words, as long as we find a way to keep Boss Feiqi alive, we have 500 gold coins every year?" Kelly scratched his ears and punched his thighs with his fists. He looked at Feiqi with a constipated expression: "It's just this boy? It's too difficult!"
How much do you want to train me to death? Feiqi rolled his eyes and looked at the three teenagers with sympathy, especially at Wumama, who was still bruised and swollen.
"Gilles, you go to Dolin City, where there is a Latis Bank. If you move well, you can come back before the snow covers the mountain. You know what we need here."
Giles nodded: "Tomorrow morning."
Old Man Kipling waved his hand and asked the three teenagers to leave the dining table to do their homework for the evening. After they left, the old man said, "I can see that you are a descendant of a noble family, but this letter is really beyond my expectations. Although it is located in a remote place and is half a man's place, we cannot ignore the influence of an earl, especially Earl Hall."
"There are three choices now. First, you are a clerk here, just write letters and copy books, and you don't need to train - we just pretend you have completed all the procedures. This way, you keep protecting you, and the things outside have nothing to do with you."
Kailie's face turned red, obviously not liked this choice. He endured it and then, and his eyes stayed on the note of two thousand gold coins and the letter paper that promised 500 gold coins each year for a long time, but finally said nothing.
"The second choice is that the letter says that you know how to alchemy, so you can receive the most basic training, just exercise your body, and be an alchemist here. To be honest, compared to the clerk, we need an alchemist more. It's just that alchemist needs to be exposed to toxins, and sometimes you have to go to the wild to collect it. Your current physical fitness is definitely not good. This choice is safer than the first one, and the church will not find any problems every year. You also have the opportunity to accumulate merits and get insults by relying on alchemy items."
"The third option is to follow the strictest. You train as much as possible during the three months, and Giles brings a piece of material when he comes back. We caught the griffin today and used its glands. Three months is enough to process it, and then a strengthening ceremony will be started."
Kelly couldn't help it and said, "The next one to perform the ceremony should be Tron."
"Five hundred gold coins per year are enough to change the order, and Tron can wait a little longer." Old man Kipling said slowly: "The winter here is not easy, and the ceremony is good for him."
"But can his body meet the standards of endurance rituals at that time?" Kelley said to Fitch, "This is not a good choice for you. You must know that I will never show mercy, or have a slight discount! You will most likely die during the training process!"
Feiqi was already attracted by the third choice. After all, a stronger body means greater survival possibility, especially in a world where monsters appear. But he still blinked first and stared at Giles with inquiring eyes.
The bald man was stared at by "passionate" eyes. After a while, he sucked his nose and hummed in a low voice: "The ceremony is rare."
