Chapter Thirteen, Enlistment Ceremony

Every soldier will clearly remember the scene of the enlistment ceremony held in the recruiting company. When we raised our right hand to face the bright August 1st military flag and solemnly swore to the motherland and the people, we all felt extremely proud and glorious for being a member of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. That sense of sacredness and mission arises naturally. This is a moment worthy of the pride and unforgettable life for each of our soldiers. No matter how many years have passed, whenever we think of this situation, it is always difficult to calm down.

On the morning of the second day after arriving in the army, the recruit company held a grand ceremony for recruits. Before leaving, the platoon leader specially gathered the entire platoon to speak. He glanced at the platoon with his eyes and said with some emotion: "Comrades, you will be held for you soon. This is what every soldier must experience after arriving in the army. In the future, you will also hold a ceremony for issuing the seal and hat badge. These will be an important part of your entire military career. I hope that everyone will participate in the ceremony with full spirit and strict military appearance and accept the review of the regiment leader. Can comrades do it?"

"Yes!" We answered in unison.

When we were in line and up the stone steps and came to the Lianbu Auditorium, as soon as we arrived here, we were immediately shocked by the powerful and powerful PLA military songs coming from the auditorium. The majestic and powerful march immediately added to our energy. We felt strong all over our body, and we all cheered up one by one, and walked into the auditorium with our heads raised our chests. As soon as we entered the door, we were all excited.

The simple auditorium is dressed in an extremely solemn manner. A few bright red characters "Entermination Ceremony of the 37892nd Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy" above the rostrum came into view. Two bright flags were hung side by side in the center, with the national flag on the left and the August 1st Army flag on the right. Two guards in front of the rostrum, with two blue navy sailor uniforms standing on both sides of the front side of the rostrum.

Ah, so handsome!

This is the first time we have seen a navy wearing a white sailor suit so close. The straight figure, the white sailor hat tilted to the right and the two black streamers behind it, is enviable. The blue and white shawl on the white sailor suit seems to be loading the sea's instructions on the shoulders. The blue military trousers without a placket are more distinctive. The snow-white gloves stand with steel guns, their eyes are bright and their expressions are firm.

This is our naval warrior. This is the most admirable military uniform in the 1970s and 1980s. Therefore, being a navy is the dream of every boy. Now, our dream comes true. No matter what we do, we are a glorious member of the People's Navy and are also part of the Great Wall of the motherland. This is enough for our youthful memory that we will be proud of forever and never regret!

Majestic military music, solemn scenes and majestic rituals, all of this makes our enlistment ceremony extremely sacred. In such an environment, everyone's passion will boil and passion will surge.

It was said that it was an auditorium, but it was just a spacious and simple greenhouse. It was empty except for the rostrum. Each of us had to bring our own small stools to enter the venue. The head of duty was a row leader. Seeing that all the ranks were already here, the head of duty shouted loudly: "Everyone is there, listen to my command and put the stools." But we are still recruits and have not started training yet. As a result, the bench was scattered. The head of duty was a little annoyed and said, "Look at what it looks like. The leader of the regiment will arrive later. How can this be done? We are now practicing the three movements of putting the stools and standing up, and sitting down."

So, the first training we had after arriving in the army was to put on the bench, sit down and stand up. These seemingly simple movements were not easy to make more than one hundred people uniform. After several rounds of practice, the entire company finally got in a consistent pace. At this time, the duty director said to everyone with satisfaction: "Okay, comrades, now we are sitting there, waiting for the company commander and instructor to accompany the regiment commander into the venue, everyone listened to my command. We must show it to the commander with a new spirit. Do you have any confidence?"

"Yes!" At this moment, we shouted out the dignity of a man.

After a while, the on-duty leader shouted: "Stand up!" The recruits of our entire company stood up in unison, and several leaders appeared on the rostrum. I only recognized the fierce company commander and the instructor who looked like a farmer. The other few should be the political commissar of the regiment, the chief of staff, etc., in terms of age and temperament.

The duty leader reported to the head of the rostrum: "Comrade Political Commissar, all the recruits of the Eighth Regiment were here, please give me instructions."

The man who was called the political commissar replied, "Sit down!"

When we sat down neatly with the command of the duty monitor, the political commissar nodded and praised, "Well, it's not bad, the movements are very neat, and they look like soldiers, very good!"

The enlistment ceremony was hosted by the company commander, and the first was the new recruit representative. When the company commander reported Gu Qing's name, I was stunned. The name sounded very familiar, but when I looked up and saw that it was the big guy who had a dispute with us on the boat that day, and then pulled me when I got off the boat. At this moment, he seemed full of energy, tall figure, broad face, and the spirit of a soldier had already appeared. As a fellow Shanghai fellow, we feel very proud.

Looking at Gu Qing who spoke passionately on the stage, I recalled the dispute we had just left home a few days ago. Although I had already put on military uniforms, it was still a common problem. Especially the young people's arguments between each other were the most difficult to avoid, because at that time we had not tasted the taste of thousands of miles away from home, nor did we realize the honor of being able to gather from the vast sea of people and become fellow villagers and comrades. I really blushed at the childishness that day.

The representative of the veteran is Zhang Jianguo, a squad leader from Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province. He is tall and tall, and he is a standard soldier at first glance. When the squad leader spoke firmly and powerfully in his loud voice, I was very envious. I sincerely hope that he could become a soldier full of temperament and masculinity like him, but this requires years of polishing and training in the army's life. Later I learned that the squad leader is a descendant of a soldier like me, a soldier who joined the army one year earlier than me. Judging from the tall and mighty figure that he and Gu Qing also have, the leader of the company was carefully selected and arranged, which can be said to be good at it.

After the instructor spoke on behalf of the recruit company, the political commissar spoke. From the company commander's introduction, I knew that our political commissar was surnamed Fang, and his accent was from Shandong. At first glance, he was a veteran who came from the war years. He had a straight back, spoke strongly and motivated.

Political Commissar Fang looked at our recruits kindly and nodded and praised: "Okay, young men, welcome you to join the ranks of the People's Navy. Seeing you so young and vigorous, I am very happy. You are historic recruits who are about to transfer across the 1970s and 1980s. This is your glory and pride, and it is worth remembering for your comrades for the rest of their lives."

The political commissar also recalled the development history of the People's Navy with affectionate thoughts, especially the political commissar did not avoid the fact that we were naval engineers. From the introduction of the political commissar, I learned that our naval engineers gradually developed with the need for naval construction. It used to have no independent engineering troops, and most of them were attached to various surface ship units. Later, according to people's needs for the modernization of the naval naval development, the three major naval fleets have engineering troops. They have tens of thousands of officers and soldiers, and have fought on remote island border lines all year round, providing strong base support, logistics construction, and camp construction for surface fleet troops. It can be said that almost every military port, dock and sailor base left the sweat of our naval engineers, and even bloody sacrifice. We are an unknown paving stone and pioneer of the People's Navy.

The political commissar's speech gave us a new understanding of the Navy Engineer Corps, and I began to re-examine my own point of view. Although we are the engineer soldiers who are looked down upon in the outside world, even within the navy, we are the worst conditions, the most tiring work, and the least willing to go to, but we are also proud to say: We are also flowing with soldiers' blood, and we are also an integral part of the Great Wall of the motherland. I am proud to be a glorious naval engineer soldier!

We ended the grand and simple recruit enlistment ceremony with the loud Chinese People's Liberation Army songs, and our military career officially kicked off with this military song, without any regrets!
