Chapter 639 A monk (two in one)(1/2)
In Chang'an City, a dusty camel caravan walked on the street, like a different scenery, particularly dazzling.
In this era, Chang'an had no shortage of Hu merchants in the Western Regions, and camels were not uncommon. Everyone was looking at him, and the man was dressed in a monk.
You should know that since the drought destroyed Buddhism, coupled with the previous mutiny in Luoyang and the two disasters, Buddhism has almost become a unique skill in the Tang Dynasty. Whether it is the government or the people, it is full of criticism when it comes to Buddhism.
The common people who hadn't seen a monk for a long time suddenly saw a monk walking so dignifiedly on the street. It was no wonder that it was fake. Many people were even waiting to watch the show, wanting to see how this monk was handled by the government.
After the monk settled his camel caravan, he looked for someone alone to ask for directions and found the Du Family Medical Center, but after a moment he moved to the Taoist Changlefang.
According to other people's guidance, he came to Di Renjie's door, knocked on the door, and looked for someone.
"Dare you sure this is the home of Mr. Di Renjie?"
Mrs. Di, who opened the door, nodded, “That’s it.
Are you? Monk?
What's the matter with children?"
The monk clasped his hands together and bowed: "The little monk Xuanzang came here because of fate, and wanted to see Master Di."
It turns out that this is the famous Master Xuanzang. He has returned from traveling west to seek scriptures. No wonder he appears in Chang'an, where monks are not allowed.
When Xuanzang returned to the True Sutra and passed by the original Gaochang, he found that the King Gaochang, who had been sworn with him, died, and the Gaochang Kingdom was also destroyed by the Tang Dynasty. Later, after inquiring, he found out that so many things had happened in the more than ten years he had traveled west, and Buddhism suffered a catastrophe.
This made Xuanzang so anxious that he wanted to rush back to Chang'an to continue the Buddhist incense.
On the way back, I encountered a monk who had no choice but to go west because of the difficulty of spreading the Dharma in the Tang Dynasty. This man knew some secrets of Buddhism and told Xuanzang that the Buddhist tradition of Shaolin Temple was inherited from a child named Di Renjie. Therefore, Xuanzang found Di Renjie as soon as he came back.
Cause and fate?
Mrs. Di muttered: "Marriage? It turns out that it is marriage again. I used to worry about my son's marriage, but now I am worried about my son's marriage. It's really...
Forget it, monks come in. Those who come are all guests. Let’s talk to my master if they succeed.”
...Mrs. Di heard it wrongly and thought she was a matchmaker for her son again.
But it was a blessing that this was the reason, otherwise the monk would not be able to enter the Di family.
"Monk?" Di Zhixun frowned a little. He had no connection with monks at home. He didn't have much impression of monks when he was an official in the past.
So he asked with a cold face: "Where does the monk come from?"
Xuanzang bowed and said, "My monk Xuanzang has just returned to Chang'an of the Tang Dynasty from the Western Indian Kingdom thousands of miles away."
The Kingdom of Heaven???
Di Zhixun was stunned and couldn't help but exclaim: "Have all the foreigners in the Western Regions thousands of miles away heard of my child's reputation?"
Mrs. Di next to her asked in a low voice: "Master, where is the Kingdom of Heaven? How many days does it take to walk to Chang'an City thousands of miles away? Isn't it a month?"
One month?
Di Zhixun turned around and gave her a wink to her wife, indicating that she should not talk nonsense, "I have heard of the Western Regions of Heavenly Kingdom in ancient books and have never been there. It takes several months for a fast horse to rush around thousands of miles away, and one month is not enough."
...Xuanzang twitched his lips after hearing this and reminded him: "I have not stopped all the way, and it has been nearly two years."
Two years???
The Di couple opened their mouths wide, as if they couldn't believe it.
Di Zhixun was a little confused, and it seemed that something was wrong. His son was less than a month old. The monk took him away for two years to visit his in-laws. Did they have this vision two years ago? How could it be?
In fact, Xuanzang reported to his family to remind him of his origin. In the second year of Zhenguan, he went west to seek scriptures, and His Majesty the Emperor also saw him off in person. Everyone in Chang'an City knew about this.
But what he didn't expect was that Di Zhixun's family was not a native of Chang'an. They had been an official in other places and had no idea about this famous Master Xuanzang, so Xuanzang's thoughts on making connections were useless.
Di Zhixun asked cautiously: "Monkey Xuanzang, you said that it came from the Kingdom of Heaven for the sake of the marriage of a child. I wonder which noble family in the Kingdom of Heaven wants to get married to my family?
This is a high and long road. Whether it is successful or not, it is rare for you to work hard. We have to figure out the situation before talking about it."
Mrs. Di pulled her husband and whispered: "Master, if she is the noble daughter of a small Western Region country, she may not be worthy of our son. At least she must be a princess of the Western Regions to be qualified. After all, our Tang Dynasty is a country of the Celestial Empire, and our son is not an ordinary person."
"Don't worry, I'm responsible." Di Zhixun nodded and comforted.
Marriage???
It was Xuanzang's turn to be confused. After a moment, he clarified the misunderstanding and quickly apologized and said, "The two donors misunderstood. I didn't come to make the young master's marriage."
Just now at the door, I mean, by chance, because I was lucky, I learned that the young master was carrying my Buddhist tradition, so I asked to meet him and wanted to ask him to help continue my Buddhist incense..."
What???
Buddhist incense?
Before Xuanzang finished speaking, Mrs. Di was no longer reserved and said angrily: "Good you monk, you thought you were honest and not a bad person. After a long time of trouble, you came to my son to become a monk?
Get out quickly. Our Di family is not a monk. Jie'er is the only son. Now the people who are asking for marriage are lined up to the entrance of the alley. But you want to trick you into becoming a monk? What's An's heart?"
Without further ado, the Di family and his wife beat Xuanzang out of the stick.
Xuanzang didn't even say anything clearly, and was beaten up. He was driven out of Changlefang by the guards of Changlefang, so as not to harass the people in the shop.
Xuanzang was a ascetic monk and would not give up what he thought because of a traumatic pain. He just stood at the gate of Changlefang and waited.
The people in the past were curious and watched, and the news soon spread throughout Chang'an City.
It was almost evening when Di Renjie came back on duty. From a distance, Xuanzang recognized the other party. It was a temperament that was born to a Buddhist son. Xuanzang's heart, which had not been fluctuating for a long time, couldn't help but ripples appeared, and his eyes became more eager.
Di Renjie was very clear-headed, and of course he also noticed Xuanzang. No one spoke anything but the young man looked at each other.
After a long time, Di Renjie broke the tranquility, walked up slowly, and asked, "You are Master Xuanzang? I'm here to Di Renjie. I heard you are looking for me?"
Di Renjie still thought about the feelings of the monks in Shaolin Temple and called Xuanzang the master.
"Yes, I heard that Mr. Di is pregnant with the incense inheritance of my Buddhist Shaolin lineage. I came to visit me. I just returned from the Western Buddhist holy land and needed Mr. Di's help." Xuanzang said straight to the point.
After thinking for a while, Di Renjie reached out and said, "Since that's the case, please let the mage and we talk at home."
"Very good!" Xuanzang felt a little relieved. At least the attitude of Mr. Di could prove that he was inclined to help Buddhism.
When she pushed the door open and went home, Mrs. Di saw it, she came up happily and shouted: "Jie'er is back? Wash your hands and prepare, and the meal will be ready soon...
What? You hateful monk, you, again? You dare to cheat people, see if I don’t beat you..."
"Mom, what's going on? Master Xuanzang is not a bad person, please stop quickly." Di Renjie persuaded.
"What? You know?
No, this thief monk is cunning and has already deceived you first. Son, don't be fooled. He is determined to deceive you to become a monk and wants to cut off the incense of our Di family. Don't listen to him.
I'll go to the Fangnei Guards now..."
Di Renjie grabbed his mother, "Don't calm down, the child was not confused or deceived. Master Xuanzang did not let me be a monk. We are old friends. Let me talk to him. Don't worry, I have my own qualities."
"Old friends? You have known each other for a long time? Why are you...
Alas, forget it, just like your father, everyone says that you have a sense of your ability. As long as you promise your mother that you don’t become a monk and get married in the future, your mother will not restrain you much."
Mrs. Di reminded her for a while, and Di Renjie finally took Xuanzang to sit down in the living room and poured her a cup of tea for her.
The fragrance of tea filled the heart and refreshed. Xuanzang was slightly lost. He took a sip and couldn't help but praise: "This tea actually has the effect of concentrating the mind and calming the mind? No wonder Mr. Di has a Buddhist heart. This path of practice is different from that of us monks.
Poor monks who eat tea have also seen all kinds of things in the world, why is the tea at the young master so special? Long-term drinking will definitely be helpful for practice.
Could it be that this tea is given to us and our Buddhists to practice?"
Looking at the monk holding the green tea and admiring, Di Renjie laughed loudly, "The master is narrow-minded, how can it be the Buddha's gift? This tea is just the green leaves of the ordinary tea tree, and there is nothing else strange about it.
The reason why you feel that the special envoy is that the method of making tea and drinking tea is different from that of ordinary people. It is created by a teacher. It emphasizes the removal of falsehood and retaining the truth, retaining the nature, keeping the fragrance farther, and slightly bitter and sweet. A cup of tea can taste the various aspects of life and have endless aftertaste.
In Buddhist terms, it means to understand the mind and see the nature and point directly to the great way."
After listening quietly, Xuanzang praised again: "Miscellaneous, the wonderful effect of this tea is so wonderful, the young master's opinion is even better. Simplified words are all explained in one sentence. If it is not a person who understands tea, he will not speak so thoroughly."
"Master, you misunderstood again. How old am I? How much knowledge and experience can I have in my life?
This judgment is still judged by the teacher.” Di Renjie said bluntly.
When he mentioned this family teacher twice, Xuanzang finally couldn't help asking: "I don't know which great master Ling is from my Buddhist sect? The little monk should go to the sermon."
Di Renjie laughed for the second time, "Master, I thought you had been traveling west for more than ten years and had been able to see the Buddhist path of the five aggregates empty, but I didn't expect that you were still an ordinary person.
Why can only be a great Buddhist master with such a state of practice? Buddha is the way, and practice is to cultivate the mind. It is not necessary to choose the method of Buddha to have this insight.
The master was the genius doctor Du Shaoqing of Chang'an. He was not a Buddhist. He was a Confucian scholar in his background and a doctor in his practice. However, he was a knowledgeable scholar, but he was a knowledgeable miscellaneous scholar. He was well-versed in a hundred schools of thought and did not restrict himself to one family.
Tsk tsk... I, a disciple, are really hard to judge."
Xuanzang was ridiculed by Di Renjie for a while, but was not annoyed. Instead, he said honestly: "I am stupid in my qualifications and have not yet seen that the five aggregates are empty to reach the state of enlightenment of the mind and nature.
Therefore, I went west to seek sutras, in order to bring back the Buddha's true Dharma to help the world become enlightened. Now I finally achieved some success, bring back the sacred objects such as scriptures and relics, and the Buddhist community will flourish in the future..."
"Wait a minute, monk, are you thinking too much? You only know how to pursue your own heart, but forget whether the countless sentient beings in this world need you to be enlightened?
What if it is not needed? Do you have to impose your ideals on sentient beings?
Then what is your real purpose? Is it enlightenment of the world? Helping the world to liberation, or for your personal wish or reputation?"
Di Renjie strengthened his tone and no longer called the wizard, but instead called the other monk without hesitation. Because of the brief contact, Di Renjie found that the other party seemed to be too blindly worshiping the Buddha and sect beliefs, thus ignoring the true meaning of Buddhism.
Even if such a person has a high title, Di Renjie doesn't like it, and even says he hates it. It is just in line with that saying, "It's different and not to work together."
Xuanzang defended: "Everyone in the world suffers. Since there is suffering, it is naturally necessary to be liberated. Helping others escape from the sea of suffering is our long-cherished wish."
To be continued...
