Chapter 22 Craft is the focus

Simply put: the method of producing a product is called a process.

Take fried poached eggs as an example.

Poached eggs are products of enterprises. The concept of poached eggs is based on product design. How big should poached eggs be? Add salt or sugar, and fry until they are 70% or 90% cooked, all belong to the category of product design.

But it is far from enough to design a poached egg just by designing it. It also requires a set of correct cooking methods to perfectly achieve the design requirements. This set of methods belongs to the category of craftsmanship.

A good chef can choose the firepower right, control the oil temperature, master the time to fry each side, and determine the time to add salt, so that he can fry delicious poached eggs. A rookie chef will be fussy, either frying or frying to dissolve yellow, and the final product is unpasteful.

Traditional handicraft production places the hope of controlling product quality on the chef's skills, while modern large-scale industrial production emphasizes the importance of process specifications to ensure that any novices can fry qualified poached eggs after simple training.

To do this, you need to carefully analyze the process of fried eggs by an excellent chef and write a detailed recipe, explaining how many levels of the firepower should be, how many degrees Celsius the oil temperature should be, and how many milliseconds the time to fry each side should be, so as to ensure that the poached eggs fried by different chefs are of the same quality. This recipe that is refined to each step is industrially called a process file.

The process files alone are not enough. In order to improve the efficiency of fried eggs, some restaurants will make special fried eggs. The chef can fry a qualified poached egg by beating the eggs in the fried eggs and turning them over at a specified time, which greatly reduces the manpower and time cost of fried eggs. This fried egg is called craft equipment.

If another same component is needed in the future, the workers must rebuild the bracket. As for whether it is the same as the last time, it cannot be guaranteed. Once the structure of the bracket changes, the original stress relationships and so on will also change, which may lead to the successful experience of the last welding process, but this cannot be copied this time.

The same situation also occurs with the upstream supporting enterprises of the assembly plant, and it is more obvious. For example, the hydraulic parts used in the excavator only require two or three sets of hydraulic parts. Professional hydraulic parts manufacturing companies are not worth developing process documents and process equipment for such output value of hundreds of yuan. Basically, they just find ways to do a few things to do. Due to the irregular process, the quality of purchased accessories is difficult to ensure, and problems often arise during the sample test drive, which makes the engineers of the assembly plant so angry that they curse.
