Chapter 488: Acoustic homing torpedo, the weapon that decides the outcome(1/2)

The existence of early warning aircraft is extremely confidential in the National Socialist government. It is even at the same level as the atomic bomb and Lingbo-class aircraft carriers, and is even higher than that of jet aircraft.

This is mainly because the existence of jet aircraft itself is not a secret matter. It has been studied by various countries. Even countries like Germany have begun to launch jet fighters on a small scale. Therefore, although the existence of jet aircraft is a secret, it is not as good as atomic bombs and early warning aircraft to a certain extent.

Both the Air Force and the Navy are looking forward to it. After all, the early warning aircraft has a detection distance of more than 100 kilometers for low-altitude flight targets, and the detection distance of large targets on the sea surface has reached more than 300 kilometers. Although such performance cannot be called a clairvoyance, at least the clairvoyance is still fine.

But even if you are a clever mind, there are still times when you are not useful.

At least this time, several early warning aircraft failed to find the joint fleet, but instead allowed the Japanese submarines to discover the position of the Ocean Fleet first.

This is not surprising. Although the detection range of more than 300 kilometers of the early warning aircraft itself is quite wide, there is a possibility that it cannot find the target...

but…

Since Japanese aircraft lead the way, it is easier to find the traces of the Japanese fleet, especially the larger ships in the joint fleet, which are even more vacancies without any escape under the detection of radar.

"Report the location to the fleet..."

Looking at a large spot of light displayed on the radar display, a soldier said to his companion.

The companion nodded and then reported the location of the joint fleet to Chen Shaokuan.

After obtaining the approximate position of the joint fleet, Chen Shaokuan ordered the fighter jets that had refilled ammunition and fuel and the ships that had not participated in the air combat took off...

"This is a good opportunity, and the Japanese absolutely never imagined that we have discovered their location."

Indeed, the Japanese could never have thought that there was such an early warning aircraft in this world. Of course, this does not mean that aircraft of this era did not carry onboard radars, but there was no such early warning aircraft specifically used for alert and reconnaissance.

Under Chen Shaokuan's order, the take-off aircraft flew towards the direction pointed out by the early warning aircraft.

On the other hand, Chen Shaokuan ordered another group of aircraft to intercept Japanese aircraft flying towards them.

Although it is very important to attack the joint fleet, if the fleet itself is sunk by the Japanese army, it will be a troublesome thing.

Because of the slow flight speed of fighter jets, especially bombers and other aircraft during this period, the speed of some bombers was even more than 200 kilometers per hour. During this time, the fleets that were targeted could be transferred for a considerable distance, so when the aircraft group flew to the direction just now, Chen Shaokuan had already directed the fleet to move to other locations.

This also made the Japanese aircraft fleet re-find the position of the Ocean Fleet. Fortunately, the ships did not run fast without the planes, so the Japanese did not waste much time.

At this time, the fleet that was departing was about to fly to the head of the joint fleet.

Unlike the land-based air force, air combat on the sea usually occurs in lower airspace. Therefore, the Japanese easily discovered the incoming fleet.

The sudden appearance of the aircraft group surprised the Japanese, especially Iroku Yamamoto himself. Iroku Yamamoto was still playing chess with a general. When the news of the enemy plane attack reached, Iroku Yamamoto even dropped the chess in his hand on the board.

"How did the Chinese find us?"

Listening to the news from his subordinates and the alarm that had already sounded. Yamamoto Iroku raised his head in surprise.

Originally, when the Chinese discovered the other party's traces, Yamamoto Iroku thought he was sure to win. At least he had taken advantage of it, but now...

"Your Excellency, what should I do if I change it now?"

Looking at Yamamoto Iroku's surprised look, the general sitting opposite him was playing chess with him.

"What should I do?" Yamamoto Iroku said something from Yan Guang after he recovered his composure. "Cool!"

As he said that, Yamamoto Izuru looked up and ordered to his subordinates.

"Order existing fighter jets to take off to meet the enemy."

"yes!!!"

After his subordinates left, Yamamoto Iroku took a look at the sky outside the bridge.

"I hope the takeoff ship bombing will succeed..."

Yamamoto Izuru did not regret sending most of the fighter planes out, because defense cannot win, and only by taking the initiative to attack and destroying all the enemy's strength can you succeed.

Therefore, what Yamamoto Izuru is looking forward to is that the flight troops can convey the good news they want.

In fact, the flight troops had already sent back some good news earlier, but in the opinion of Iroku Yamamoto, it was not good enough.

Injury?

What Yamamoto Izuru wants is to sink, and it is best to be the largest ship in history...

However, the current urgent need is still the enemy plane coming here, so after ordering his subordinates to clean up the chess, Yamamoto Iroku began to command the fleet.

Yamamoto Iroku did not send out all the ship battles, or it was impossible to send out, so a group of ship battles soon took off to meet the enemy.

This period was the peak of the Japanese army. Although a considerable number of troops were consumed when they went south to Southeast Asia, Australia and India, the core navy did not suffer much loss. Therefore, the carrier-based pilots under Yamamoto Iroku were all elite among the elites, and the ground crew members were original members. Therefore, in a very short time, the ship battles on the deck had already flew together.

A few minutes later, the two aircraft groups collided together...

"Your Excellency, you think..."

Looking at the battle group that was moving here, an assistant officer said with some concern.

He knew very well that the zero battle of fleet equipment was not the opponent of jz10...

"Nothing is useful now, I can only look at them..."

Hearing his subordinates’ concerns, Yamamoto Izuru just said lightly.

———————————————————

Although the Japanese tried their best to intercept them in the air, several ships rushed out of the battle group and then flew towards several aircraft carriers of the joint fleet...

"Hurry up, meet the enemy!!!"

Looking at the bombardment of several ships that were sweeping down, a soldier shouted loudly.

With his shouting, an anti-fire machine gun next to him shot at the flying man's ship.

However, unexpectedly, the ship actually dived down with the machine gun shooting, and then dropped a bomb...

"boom!!!"

Like the Japanese, Chen Shaokuan also knew very well that in naval battles, only aircraft carriers were the most important, so almost all the targets of the ship bombing troops were aircraft carriers. Only those ships that were about to be shot down would find a target to throw down the ammunition.

However, even so, the ship bombing force still caused great casualties to the Japanese army.

Especially the torpedoes dropped by the ship bombing troops. Although the Japanese often feel that they have avoided it, unexpectedly, these torpedoes continue to chase them after them avoided...

"Sound self-guided torpedo..."

Looking at a Akitsuki-class destroyer hit in the distance, Yamamoto Iroku held the railing tightly.

Acoustic self-guided torpedo is a noise-guided torpedo that can receive water and ships. This torpedo greatly improves the hit rate.

Although Japan does not have such torpedoes, this does not mean that Iroku Yamamoto has never heard of them, because both Germany and the United States are developing this torpedo.

Among them, Japan's ally Germany developed two models t4 and t5, while the United States developed the model mk24.

The idea of creating a torpedo that can "automatically" find targets was in the minds of torpedo designers during World War I. Navy powers at that time were very interested in this, but the scientific research level at that time could not turn it into reality. At that time, there was still a lack of in-depth research on the physical mechanisms of sound generation and transmission in seawater. In 1933, Germany began to develop sound self-guided torpedoes. In 1943, the t4 "Falcon" and t5 "Wren" torpedoes were put into actual combat.

In the autumn of 1941, the US Navy asked the US National Defense Research Council to explore the possibility of developing a small anti-submarine acoustic self-guided torpedo. In response to this requirement, on December 10, 1941, personnel from the scientific and industrial sectors held a meeting in the Harvard University Underwater Acoustics Laboratory to discuss the possibility of developing such torpedo. Soon after, at the second meeting of the David Taylor ship model test pool, the basic R&D performance parameters of the torpedo were determined as follows: the size should be suitable for a 454 kg bomb mount, that is, it should be less than 48 cm x 48 cm; it can be deployed at a speed of 120 knots at a height of 6090 meters; it can be used to use lead-acid batteries and electric propulsion; the endurance time is 515 minutes at a speed of 12 knots; it can be carried 45 kg high-explosion warhead; it can be used to use passive acoustic self-guided.

For the Americans, the speed of 12 knots is enough to catch up with the submarine underwater, and the 15-minute endurance is enough to allow the torpedo to guide the target on its own and detonate the warhead during the impact. Therefore, the Americans are quite satisfied with the performance of the mk24. For the Americans, it is a weapon specially used to deal with submarines.

Unlike the Americans, on the other hand, the t4 and t5 torpedoes developed by the Germans are specifically used to deal with ships on the sea————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

The t4 torpedo developed by the Germans has a diameter of 533mm and a warhead weighs 280 kilograms. It adopts electric propulsion, with a range of 7,500 meters and a speed of 20 knots per hour.

T4 is the first self-guided torpedo, produced in March 1943, and installed a passive sound guidance device. It is mainly used when u603, u758, u221 attacks the hx229 escort fleet and the sc122 escort fleet.

As for t5, it is a 533mm diameter torpedo like t4. The warhead weighs 274 kilograms and is also powered by electric propulsion. It has a range of 5,700 meters and a speed of 24 knots.

T5 was put into use in the fall of 1943. Its characteristics are fast, effective attack distances are long, and can be detonated by magnetic or trigger. Its original intention was to escort killer. Although it had achieved some small results, unfortunately, the Allies quickly had the device to deal with it - the noise jammer foxer. In addition, its working principle is to lock the ship with the largest sound 400 meters after launch, which can be proved. If the U boat is launched through the stern launch tube, it must quickly dive below 60 meters after launch, otherwise it will become the target of T5 because of its excessive sound. U972 and u377 were almost hit by their own T5 torpedo in December 1943 and January 1944 respectively.

———————————————————

Like the Germans and Americans, the Chinese Navy also attaches great importance to the development of torpedoes. For them, torpedoes that can track their own targets are their dreams.

So after having a little capital, the development of self-guided torpedo began.

However, unlike Germany and the United States, China not only developed torpedoes to deal with surface ships, but also developed specifically for underwater submarines.

In addition, these torpedoes are also divided into three types: aircraft use, ship use and submarine use.

Aircraft naturally refer to aircraft such as ships and bombs, while ships are surface ships such as torpedo boats and destroyers. As for submarines, it is not necessary to explain them.

In fact, for the national defense and navy, self-guided torpedoes are also a new thing. The latest production finalized products were only installed in 1941. So far, the acoustic self-guided torpedoes equipped with surface ships such as submarine troops and torpedo boats are only tens of thousands, and the number of airdrops is even smaller...

In order to eliminate the joint fleet in one fell swoop, the navy took out almost all airdrop self-guided torpedoes.

In addition, the United States did not position the self-guided torpedo as a submarine-launched torpedo at the beginning, but instead located it in an airdrop torpedo, which avoided the technical problem of how to avoid attacking itself after the torpedo enters the water. It can be said that the project positioning of the weapon is very accurate. When using self-guided torpedoes, how to avoid attacking itself and friendly ships has always caused a headache.

However, Chen Shaokuan had no trouble with this. Because the current ship bombing is all airdrop type, unless they can fly out of the water like flying fish, it would never be possible to pose any threat to the ship bombing in the air...

but…

For Yamamoto Izuru, it may not be...

"Boom!!!Boom!!!"

In just an instant, two self-guided torpedo hit the Flying Dragon aircraft carrier, and opened two big holes in the hull of the aircraft carrier.

Although the airdrop-type acoustic self-guided torpedo equipped by the naval equipment is only at a speed of more than 20 knots. It is completely impossible to compare with the high speed of about 30 knots that modern aircraft carriers can achieve, but if the torpedo is thrown from the front, it is difficult to avoid these torpedoes with speeds of more than 20 knots.

The most important thing is…

The Japanese had never expected that the Defense Force would be equipped with self-guided torpedoes, so when they thought they had avoided it, when the torpedo turned to continue swimming, they had almost no ability to adapt...

"Boom!!!Boom!!!"
To be continued...
