1322. Bird cleaning (3/5)

The ferret is not a native species of New Zealand. It was introduced from the outside in the late nineteenth century to control the number of hares and domestic rabbits in New Zealand.

But no one expected that ferrets were not doing their jobs in New Zealand and did not destroy hares because they found that the birds here were easier to catch.

So, they changed the menu and gave priority to catching birds. Only when they encountered rabbits would they hunted them.

Long ago, ferrets were declared "pest" by the Ministry of Environmental Protection of New Zealand. The introduction of this animal was very failed and has been recorded in the textbooks of New Zealand middle school students.

After reading the introduction, Wang Bo slapped the table and said depressedly: "No wonder, Blue Duck and Mu Ge have been here for two years, but the clan has not expanded for a long time. I thought it was a problem with the possum, and I specially cleared the possum."

Professor Sandra said: "Although the possums are a threat to the survival of these wild birds, they are small in size, such as blue ducks and southern roosters can fight back, but ferrets can't do it. If they fight back, they will send food."

The ferret is widely distributed throughout the world, and it has its own presence on all continents. It has strong survival and adaptability. It has traces of its activity in deserts or forests, grasslands, swamps and valleys, high altitudes or plains, cultivated land or wastelands.

Wang Bo called Cousins and said, "Is there a lot of ferrets on the ranch?"

Cousins thought about it and said, "Not many, but if you search carefully, you will always find their traces. What's wrong?"

Wang Bo said: "They will prey on precious birds such as blue ducks and southern yangchi. Professor Sandra suggested that I get them done. What are you going to do? I think they mainly exist in the pastures."

A large number of chickens, ducks and geese are raised in the pasture. Their egg laying ability is much stronger than wild birds. This is the favorite food of ferrets, so if there are ferrets in the town, they must be hidden in the pasture.

Cousins said in embarrassment: "This is not easy. The ferrets are very cunning. When catching the possum, you can let them jump out and hunt them through scaring. However, when encountering the turbulence, the ferrets' solution is to hide it."

Wang Bo thought for a while and said, "I'll go and take a look, and then work together to develop countermeasures."

To find ferrets, you can't just search in the grass.

This thing is very clever. They can live in rock cracks, stone piles, tree holes, stone walls and other places. As long as there are gaps that can accommodate them, they will drill into the cave to build nests.

They have a wide range of recipes, can prey on rabbits, possums, insects, lizards, and sometimes go into the water to catch fish, but their favorite is birds.

What's more ruthless is that they can climb trees and swim, and they can catch them no matter what you fly on the tree, geography or swimming in the water. The most ruthless is that they will chase prey no matter day and night.

When Wang Bo saw these introductions, he was really amazed. These are simply all-around warriors in nature. They are only small and larger, and they can attack humans, so they are no different from tigers.

Because of the large number of birds in New Zealand and the good ecosystem, ferrets in New Zealand like to do the same thing as "weasels", which is to steal birds and eggs, or attack adult birds in the middle of the night.

New Zealand ferrets are currently recognized as the "No. 1 New Zealand bird killer", especially the New Zealand national bird kiwi, which has died in the mouths of ferrets.

The lifespan of ferrets is slightly shorter than that of domestic cats. As long as the ferrets can live to adulthood, their lifespan can reach 6-8 years. During this period, they can reproduce offspring, so their reproductive ability is still relatively strong.

Wang Bo opened the sand table on the road to look for this animal, but he searched all the way and found no results. He used his fingers to thrust the lawn and shocked several possums, but he did not see any trace of ferrets.

There are many possums in the pasture, thanks to his town-wide mouse-catching plan, the possums caught during that period were in units of tens of thousands, and he had to spend money specifically to deal with the corpses of the possum.

When he arrived at the ranch, Peterson came to hear the news, carrying a cage in his hand, with a small animal inside.

This thing has a relatively small body, a slender head, and a slender tail. Two dark small eyes are spinning flexibly, with short white and yellow hair on the body, and four claws are black in color.

Needless to say, this is the ferret. Wang Bo picked up the cage and observed it carefully. The ferret saw him shivering and trembling, looking pitiful.

Seeing this, he sighed: "Is this thing more cute than him?"

"If you see them hunting birds, you won't feel that way." Peterson curled his lips.

Due to the huge threat of ferrets to New Zealand birds, the New Zealand Ministry of Environmental Protection spared no effort to control the number of ferrets. It is called an environmental killer and a natural enemy of birds in various publicity. New Zealanders have received such education since childhood, so they are very disgusted with ferrets.

Wang Bo asked: "How did you catch this ferret?"

"I set up a trap, and I had already found traces of ferrets in the chicken farm. I set up a trap there and caught some ferrets. This is the little poor guy I caught last night."

Wang Bo pondered for a moment and said, "How difficult is it to eliminate them? Launch another national action to capture ferrets?"

Peterson quickly waved his hand: "No, no, no, this is not possible. To catch ferrets, you must use the physical capture method of setting traps. If the whole people catch it, then the whole people will set traps. At that time, there will be traps everywhere in the town. In addition, we cannot control the destructiveness of everyone setting traps, which will add a lot of danger to the town."

In this regard, tourists are present in many corners of Sunset Town. If someone puts a mouse trap, it will be troublesome if a tourist step in.

"Why do you call the Ministry of Environmental Protection Doc or send an email to tell them that there are ferrets found in our town and they will send someone to deal with it." Professor Sandra suggested.

Peterson nodded, "This is the easiest way."

Cousins is an anarchist and said, "Does it depend on the government? With their efficiency, when they catch ferrets, our birds will probably be eaten. Besides, how could they catch ferrets?"

"I don't think so. There are a large number of rare birds and insects in our town. You should know that giant katyds are also food for ferrets, so they will definitely come to deal with it." Professor Sandra said.

Sunset Town is now a natural reserve of Giant Sands in New Zealand. Due to the abundant nutrition of the forage, Giant Sands in the pasture have successfully reproduced. Their existence has optimized the quality of the forage, and the two sides have formed a virtuous cycle.

Wang Bo waved his hand to stop their argument and said, "The ferrets are not like possums, and they are not flooding, right?"

"Yes, but if not dealt with, they will sooner or later spread."

Wang Bo nodded and said, "Okay, leave this matter to me, I have a solution."
