Chapter 765

It was impossible for the three Ethiopian-class battlecruisers transferred to Germany by the Dutch in April 1942 to run to the North Atlantic to fight night wars. Because they were all transformed into aircraft carriers (the only hulls are transferred, without superstructures, and they are easily transformed), and were named "e-ship".

The hulls of the three e-ships have been completed and have been dragged to Wilhelmshaven for outfitting. The sea test will not be carried out until about the vernal equinox in 1943.

According to the design, the standard displacement of the e-ship will be as high as 28,500 tons, and the full load displacement will exceed 36,000 tons. It has a double-layer hangar and can carry 72 carrier-based aircraft in the full hangar storage mode. If part of the deck is tied, the number of carrier-based aircraft will reach 90. Although it is not as good as the Zeppelin class, it is also a very powerful fleet aircraft carrier in the first-class.

By the time the Arctic Day arrives in the spring of 1943, the European Combined Fleet will have 5 large fleet aircraft carriers (2 Zeppelin class, 3 e-ships), 3 light fleet aircraft carriers (2 Seedlez class, 1 Xiafei class) and 3 cruise ship-constructed quasi-fleet aircraft carriers (Europa, Bremen, and Alsace), a total of 11 very valuable fleet aircraft carriers.

By then, the sea control of the entire Atlantic Ocean will surely be firmly controlled by the European Union Fleet again.

However, in the early morning of December 10, 1942, on the North Atlantic, the European Combined Fleet, which had just won a critical naval battle, was still at a disadvantage in terms of military strength.

As the injured Ludendolf withdrew from the battle under the protection of three destroyers and one sp-class reconnaissance cruiser, it will retreat to Saint-Nazell in France with the Tirpiz, and will undergo overhaul and modification there, now only 9 battleships owned by the 1st team led by Marshal Lütjens himself.

In addition, in the 3rd team, there are the battleship Gneisenau, two Dunkirk-class battlecruisers, and three P-class missile cruisers with a power comparable to battleships.

If it weren't for P-class missile cruisers (they now seem to be professionals in the finals, but they are not doing anything about battle line artillery battles), there are only 12 European Combined Fleet Battleships/Combat Cruises on the North Atlantic.

And the United Kingdom, the United States and the Soviet Union still have 20 ships, no, there are still 22 battleships/battleship cruisers for the time being.

Because the USS Massachusetts and USS Alabama still insisted on not sinking.

"boom……"

The nine European Combined Fleet battleships caught up with the lonely Massachusetts 30 minutes ago, and then launched a huge artillery battle with disparity. Each round of volleys had dozens of shells passing through the dark sky, smashing towards the Massachusetts with rage, hatred and desire for victory.

Explosions continued to sound from the unlucky American battleship, and rolling smoke and fire came out. Two armor-piercing shells hit the Massachusetts turrets No. 2 and 3, and the violent explosions lifted off the two turrets and fell into the cold Atlantic Ocean. However, the remaining main and secondary guns of the Massachusetts were still firing desperately.

At 1:05 a.m., the battleship Rome fired a critical shell armor-piercing projectile that penetrated the Massachusetts' side waterline armor belt. After a violent roar, the Massachusetts lost all its power.

Seeing that the American battleship in the flames stopped moving, Marshal Lütjens put down his telescope, breathed a sigh of relief, and then said to Lieutenant General Messel, the chief of staff beside him: "It has lost its power... This cruel artillery battle should be over. Stop the shelling now and give the other party a light speech. I allow them to surrender decently after sinking the ship."

"As for orders, Lord Marshal."

Lütjens now shows the "chival spirit" of old Europe. Because Germany has truly realized the co-governance of Juncker and the Nazi Party today, the traditional chival spirit has not been destroyed.

According to the "honest propaganda minister" Goebbels, what is going on in Germany is a "knight war" rather than a "butcher war".

However, Lütjens allowed the other party to sank the warships and surrender, not entirely because of the chivalrous spirit, but because his formation had six battleships equipped with "drug cannons". The main guns of Richelieu-class battleships and Venetto-class battleships were very powerful, but the barrel life and drug room life were not long, so they could not be bombarded endlessly. If all the limited service life was exhausted, Lütjens's fleet would not be able to deal with the N fleet.

At 1:07, one minute after the Hindenburg fired, all the artillery on the Massachusetts stopped firing, and the sea where the fire was originally full of fire suddenly returned to peace. Although the Americans did not respond with the lights, they obviously began to give up the warships according to Lütjens's request...

"Marson, after receiving a telegram from the Gneesenau, the 3rd team sank the target ship!"

Three minutes later, Lütjens got another good news. Three V3 missiles hit the Alabama, blowing the battleship into two pieces. Most of the more than a thousand US Navy officers and soldiers on the ship sank into the Atlantic Ocean with the warships.

Upon hearing this news, Lütjens smiled satisfied, "The five battleships were sunk, and they were all new battleships. Now we have the final say on the North Atlantic." He turned his head and looked at Lieutenant General Messer, Chief of Staff, "Where are their transport fleets now?"

"In the g5 sea area, close to Greenland." Messer replied.

The n fleet has been under the surveillance of German seaplanes and submarines, so Lieutenant General Messel is very clear about its position. When the main force of the Allied Combined Fleet was facing the main force of the European Combined Fleet, the n fleet was advancing northeast under the protection of the escort fleet with 12 old battleships as the core, and is now approaching Greenland.

"The climate along Greenland is very harsh, with wind and snow everywhere, floating ice everywhere on the sea, and icebergs, and countless islands along the coast," said Lieutenant General Messel, "so our seaplanes and submarines will throw them at any time."

"That's why they are close to Greenland." Lütjens shrugged. "Our enemies are very experienced veteran navy and know how to take advantage of the bad weather."

"Marson, are we going north?"

"No." Lütjens shook his head and smiled, "We are not going to fight on the seas of icebergs and fragmented islands everywhere, where the weak side is turning the tables."

Complex sea conditions, complex terrain, and harsh climate have always been beneficial to the weak. Lütjens now has a great advantage, and there is no need to risk being ambushed by destroyers and mines.

"We'll wait near Iceland," Lütjens had already made up his mind, "and let the mine team go to the sea outside Reykjavik to lay out thousands of mines. When they pass through the minefield, we will use battleships and lightning strike ships to attack."

Among the huge fleet brought by Lütjens to the North Atlantic, there are 10 Y-class rapid mine-branch cruisers and 10 ordinary mine-branch ships converted from merchant ships. Among them, the Y-class rapid mine-branch cruiser has a displacement of 5,750 tons, can carry 400 magnetic mines, and can reach 28 knots. The 10 modified mine-branch ships can carry a total of 3,500 magnetic mines.

In addition, the mine team (including 1 S-class reconnaissance cruiser, 10 Brack-class lightning strikers and 10 Philman-class lightning strikers) also carried 1,200 magnetic mines on the rest of the hulls.

In other words, a total of 8,700 mines can be deployed to the target waters. Although these mines are not enough to completely block the port of Reykjavik, they will still cause considerable losses to passing fleets. If the European Combined Fleet takes the opportunity to attack, they will definitely make a great gain.

...

"Comrades of the Military Commissioner contacted the Red Caucasus and the Kirov. They were safe and sound, and nearly 2,000 British and American naval officers and soldiers were salvaged."

At 8:15 am on December 10, Burganin, who had been sleeping in his political commissar cabin for a while, just woke up when Kuznetsov came excitedly to report the good news to him.

"That's great, even the Red Caucasus and the Kirov are fine." Burganin smiled a few times, "It seems that the Red Navy has withstood the test! Comrade Kuznetsov, where are we now?"

Kuznetsov replied: "We have joined the N fleet, and the Kronstadt and Sevastopol have arrived."

"Then can we arrive in Iceland safely now?" Burganin's smile was quickly replaced by a look of nervousness.

Although the Soviet Red Navy did not suffer much loss in the battle last night, it was definitely defeated, and it was still a crushing defeat! Although after joining the N and the escort fleet, the Allied Combined Fleet could still produce 18 battleships/battleship cruisers.

However, most of these 18 battleships/battleship cruisers are outdated things from the World War I era, and only the 6 ships of the Soviet Union were new.

Kuznetsov's face also became solemn. He shook his head and said, "Military Comrade, General Ingersol and Lieutenant General Fraser have discussed for several hours and thought Iceland was incredible for the time being. Because the Germans will definitely wait for me to come to the door, and most of them will lay a large number of mines in the waters near Iceland."

"What should I do?"

"Break through the Denmark Strait, then the fleet was divided into two, and most of the ships went south to Scarpa Bay."

"Going south to Scarpa Bay?" Burganin was surprised. "How can this work? Wouldn't the Germans intercept it halfway?"

Kuznetsov smiled bitterly and shook his head and said, "No, Admiral Ingersol is ready to take out some bait to lead the German fleet away."

"Bail? What bait?"
