Chapter 556 The First Battle of Hawaii Five

On the night of December, the first Japanese Navy fleet, which had five battleships including Yamato, Nagamon, 6 O, Hiei and Kirishima, and the ships carrying the entire 6th Army's 2nd Division and 38th Division, had already arrived on the ocean outside the coast of Haleiwa, North Oahu.

Although five battleships including Yamato, Nagamon, 6o, Hiei and Kirishima have been bombarding the targets of Pearl Harbor and Honolulu (Holunu) on the south bank of Oahu for several days, it is not surprising that they finally chose to land 6 on Oahu. After all, Pearl Harbor and Honolulu, south of Oahu, are large strongholds operated by the Americans for half a century. Although several turrets with large caliber cannons were destroyed by the terrible Yamato.

However, there are still many strong fortifications on the southern foot of the Diamond Hill and the Kulao Mountains. There are still 12-inch (5mm) mortars placed in the dead corners where the naval guns cannot be fired. There are dozens of movable 8-inch (2o3mm), 6-inch (155mm) and 5-inch (127mm) cannons that can be moved were hidden in the tunnels at the foot of the Diamond Hill and the Kulao Mountains and were not destroyed. If the Japanese army were to climb 6 from the front of Honolulu and Pearl Harbor, these cannons would be powerful.

In addition to Pearl Harbor and Honolulu, the areas suitable for troops on Oahu are also Kaneohe Bay and Kailua Bay in the east of the island, Makaha, Waiyana and Nanakulli on the west coast of the island, and Haleiwa in the north of the island. These places have beaches for troops to board the 6th, and small and medium-sized ports are available nearby.

However, there are Kulao Mountains between Kaneohe Bay and Kailua Bay and Pearl Harbor, and Honolulu are blocked by the Kulao Mountains, so it is difficult for the sixth troops to pass, and the US military is also easy to defend, so it is not considered.

The Makaha, Waiyana and Nanakuli on the west coast of the island are too close to Pearl Harbor, and when you get ashore, it is the second largest mountain on Oahu. The Hachi Fortress destroyed by Yamato is located in the south of Waiyana Ridge. Although the fortress was destroyed, a large number of fortifications for the escort fortifications are still there, which can block the roads leading to Pearl Harbor and Honolulu on the Viaine Seashore. Moreover, the artillery of the US 6th Army deployed near Pearl Harbor is also enough to block the southern foot of the Waiyana Ridge, so this is not a particularly ideal place to board the 6th.

After excluding the east and south sides of Oahu, the only place that is most suitable for landing 6 is Haleiwa in the north of Oahu. Not only does Haleiwa have beaches that are very suitable for landing 6, but there is also a small port. In addition, after landing shores from Haleiwa, the Oahu Plain is a plain located in the center of Oahu, between the Kulao Mountains and the Waiana Ridge. The northernmost end of the plain is Haleiwa, and the southernmost end is Pearl Harbor and Honolulu.

In other words, as long as the Japanese army succeeded in Haleiwaden 6, they could rush south along the Oahu Plain into Pearl Harbor and Honolulu. However, the Americans were not a race that could not fight. They had long known the defensive weaknesses of Oahu, so many years ago, the Skefield Barracks were built near Vasiwaa in the center of the Oahu Plain as a stronghold to defend the Oahu Plain. Admiral Schott's headquarters was located in this barracks.

In addition to this barracks that were guarding the rushing camp, Admiral Schott also had a trump card, which was the 24th Division of the 6th Army of the United States and the 25th Division of the 25th Division. These two battalions were equipped with a total of 152 m3 "Stuart" light tanks (and more than 5o reserves). Although the m3 tank was just a light tank, it was a good thing for slaughtering infantry, equipped with a 37mm cannon and 5 7.62mm machine guns. For infantry, such firepower can be described as horror.

Therefore, General Short, who owned the Skefield Barracks and 2 tank battalions, decided to place the decisive battle site on the Oahu plains, and did not deploy heavy troops in the Haleiwa area on the north bank of Oahu, where the Japanese army most likely reached 6.

Admiral Schott and his staff thought that no matter how powerful the Japanese battleships were, they would not be able to reach the shore. Fighting 6 battles on the Oahu Plain far from the beach, the two tank battalions would definitely show their skills. Those 6 Japanese troops who came from afar would not carry tanks with them, right?

Therefore, at 11 pm on December, when the huge Japanese fleet arrived at the offensive starting line as planned, the beach in Haleiwa was still quiet, as if no one was defending it.

"Why is there no one defending it? Are the Americans on Oahu scared by Yamamoto's battleships and dare not fight the decisive battle with the Imperial Army at the beach?"

The commander of the 16th Army of the 6th Army of the Japanese Army, who was commanding the 6th Battle, Imamura, said to himself while holding a telescope on his command ship "Changzhou Maru", holding a telescope and observing the quiet Haleiwa.

Although there is a friendship between Imamura and Yamamoto, this friendship cannot surpass the collective of the 6th Army. Therefore, Imamura cannot set up its military command on the spacious and comfortable Yamato, and of course it cannot board other naval ships. Instead, it puts the military command on a passenger ship called "Changzhou Maru". Speaking of which, the total tonnage of ships in the hands of the Japanese 6th Army is now more than that of the Japanese Navy! Because most of the requisitioned civilian ships are used and controlled by the 6th Army, the total tonnage is as high as 210,000 tons! The navy, including military ships and requisitioned civilian ships, has a total of more than 150,000 tons.

"Commander, the main force of the US military should be concentrated in areas where naval guns are difficult to fire in the central Oahu Plain." The commander of the 2nd Division, Masao Maruyama, has also been on the "Changzhou Maru". When he heard Imamura's words, he analyzed, "But there should be long-range artillery aiming at the beachhead of Haleiwa."

"It doesn't matter," said Imamura. "The navy's reconnaissance planes have already entered the sky. Once the US cannons fire, they will be exposed, and the naval guns will soon be eliminated." He frowned, "But the key to the victory of Oahu is the naval surprise attack... If a strange way of using submarines to transport combat vehicles works, it may be easy to take down the Diamond Hill and the port of Honolulu, and then it will be easy to fight."

Although the 6th Army of Japan had aircraft carriers (now no more) and boarding 6 ships, as well as large pylons, they did not have the ability to send two divisions to the beach at once. Moreover, the 2nd Division and the 38th Division still have a lot of heavy equipment. This kind of heavy equipment is too slow to use the small port of Haleiwa to go to the 6. If they can take down the big port of Honolulu, it would be much easier.

Therefore, after referring to the island landing plan formulated by the Navy, Imamura still retained the plan of submarines carrying tanks to attack, and asked the Taiwan mixed brigade to cooperate. However, he did not come up with such a brain-opening plan, but had to wait until a part of the 2nd Division and the 38th Division landed on Haleiwa and attracted the attention of the US military before carrying out a brain-opening sneak attack.

...

"Lieutenant General, San Diego's telegram, the Japanese devils have arrived at Haleiva Beach!"

"Damn it, finally here!"

On the aircraft carrier "Enterprise", Halsey, the commander of the 1st USS Fleet, was woken up from the bed by the staff officer and heard an unexpected bad news. When he quickly put on his clothes and arrived at the bridge with the staff officer, the latest order from the Taiping Fleet Command had arrived.

"Lieutenant General, the headquarters ordered us not to return to San Diego." Colonel George Mori, the captain of the Enterprise and chief of staff of the 1st Fleet, told Halsey. "Admiral Nimitz ordered us to go to the G2 waters and the S1 supply fleet immediately, and immediately go to support Oahu after completing the supply."

The so-called g2 waters is a temporary space, located about 2 o'clock in the west of the Gilbert Islands, about 9 o'clock in the island of Oahu, not very far from the current location of the Halsey fleet.

These days, Halsey's fleet has been floating on the sea, carefully avoiding Japanese aircraft carriers, and also bypassing Hawaii, where Japanese ships gathered, so the sailing rate is not fast. Until the early morning of the 24th, it was still in the waters of about 1 ooo a mile southwest of the Hawaiian Islands. At this level, it was impossible to reach San Diego in 1941, so Nimitz simply asked the Halsey fleet to receive a supply at sea and then continue to fight.

The S1 supply fleet is part of the original Sho1 fleet, consisting of several tankers, freighters and a destroyer. Shortly after the night war in Hawaii Island, Nimitz, who was replaced by Kimmel as commander of the Pacific Fleet, was sent to the G2 waters for standby. The purpose is to supply Halsey's 1st Special Mixed Fleet when necessary.

"Support Oahu?" Halsey frowned, "How to support?"

"Released all the SBD and F4Fs on the Lexington and Saratoga in the waters 1 ooo kilometers away from Oahu, and let them hang high-explosive bombs to bomb the Japanese army on Oahu. However, it is not implemented immediately, but to wait for Commander Nimitz's orders."

"What should I do after the bombing?" Halsey asked. "These aircraft can't get back to the aircraft carrier."

"Land at the temporary airport on Oahu," said Colonel George Mori, "and then it was placed under the command of the Hawaiian Army. In addition, the 1st squadron immediately turned to San Diego after the carrier-based aircraft was released. Admiral Nimitz expected that the Japanese aircraft carrier would come to pursue. If we could get rid of the Japanese aircraft carrier, the 1st squadron would be divided into two, forming the 6th squadron fleet with Lexington and Saratoga as the core to head to San Diego. The remaining ships are still the 1st squadron fleet and will join the SSO1 fleet."

"sso1?" Halsey was stunned. "Where to where?"

Colonel George Morrie said: "It is the first transport fleet in San Diego and Sydney. Admiral Nimitz took special care of the telegram. This is a very large and important transport fleet and must be sent to Australia safely." (To be continued.)8
