Chapter 514 Barbarossa Line of Defense

"A line of defense?" Adolf Hitler was a little confused. "I remember that no line of defense was held in this war, and even fortresses like Gibraltar were soon occupied by us."

The offensive and defensive battle against Gibraltar fortress has been fighting for nearly two months since June. However, the battle in Gibraltar is not fierce, it is just a mode of heavy artillery attack. Marshal Keseling mobilized 800mm "Gustav" train cannons and "Dora" train cannons, 600mm "Karl" mortar cannons, 420mm "Big Betha" howitzers and 280mm k8 cannons, as well as many other large calibers

The heavy artillery carried out continuous bombardment of the Gibraltar Fortress. Before July 10, all British artillery positions were completely destroyed on the western foot of the Fengmo Platform. Subsequently, a German infantry division launched an attack and captured the rocky highlands at the northern end of the Fengmo Platform. Immediately afterwards, six "Carl" mortars were transported to the foot of the Fengmo Platform, and under the cover of the platform, heavy concrete armor-piercing bombs weighing 2.17 tons were fired nearby.

Because the "Karl" mortars had a very large firing angle, they were deployed at the foot of the Fengmiao Platform and could hit every corner of the Gibraltar Peninsula. The 2.17-ton heavy concrete armor-piercing bombs were almost invincible, so the British turrets distributed throughout the peninsula were quickly destroyed one by one. On August 7, the entire Fengmiao Platform and the port area of the Gibraltar Fortress were occupied by the German army, and the British army retreated to the Europa Platform at the southernmost end of the peninsula to survive.

The British fleets did nothing except transporting and supporting their ground forces to capture the Canary Islands and breaching near the Strait of Gibraltar. They were obviously unable to rescue the Gibraltar Peninsula.

In addition, the British army in the Tobrook Fortress, which had been besieged for several months, also surrendered to the German and Italian coalition forces on August 2, and the North African war was completely over. On Crete, due to the surrender of the Greek Kingdom, the German and Italian troops also successfully landed in July. It took less than 7 days to completely crush the British resistance and occupy the entire island.

Now as long as Gibraltar is finally won, the entire Mediterranean will completely become the inner lake of Germany and Italy.

After completely solving the Mediterranean, Germany should resolve the British mainland step by step. As long as it takes the British mainland, Germany will be unbeaten in this war. Because without the British springboard, the United States will neither land in Europe nor carry out any strategic bombing. The entire Europe except the Soviet territory is completely controlled by Germany. Moreover, Germany also continuously obtains oil and non-ferrous metals from the Middle East and Africa, which can ensure that its war machine is full of power.

It is hard to say whether the Soviet Union can destroy it with most of Europe's human and industrial resources, but no matter how bad the battle is, it will not be defeated by the Soviet Union. At most, it will be the same as in World War I, and it will be a stalemate on the Eastern Front. However, Germany now has a super ace atomic bomb! As long as Germany can be the first to build an atomic bomb in the world, no matter how hard the Soviet Union fights, it will be defeated.

However, the Soviet Union would not have watched Germany successfully take over the British mainland. Stalin was very likely to start a war against Germany when Germany landed on the British mainland. This would make Germany face the dilemma of going to war on the two fronts before defeating Britain. Therefore, the General Staff led by Hessman planned to establish a line of defense on the Eastern Front to ensure that Germany defended the Eastern Front before occupying the British mainland.

"The leader, the defense line that has not been defended until the beginning of the war is because the attacking side is the most elite German soldiers." Hessman said, "If we were to defend, there would be no defense line that could not be defended."

"There is no defense line that cannot be defended?" Hitler frowned, "We must defend from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea. Even if we do not consider the Soviet-Finn border, this defense line will be 2,000 kilometers long, right?"

"Yes," Hessman nodded, saying, "Now the General Staff is planning to build a defense line code-named "Barbarossa" in the area bordering the eastern and Soviet Union. The total length of the defense line will exceed 2,000 kilometers, but we will not put in close defense throughout the line, but will adopt a defensive method that combines deep defense and mobile defense."

It is impossible to use tight defenses on the long front of 2,000 kilometers, and it cannot be defended. If it is deployed according to the standard of 10 kilometers of defense of a division, at least 200 divisions must be invested in the 2,000 kilometers of defense, and mobile troops must be prepared to counterattack and bet on loopholes. It is not enough to have 300-350 divisions in any case. The German Wehrmacht Army currently has not so many total troops, so it can only adopt a method of focusing on defense, combining in-depth defense and mobile defense.

"What is key defense?" Hitler asked. "What is deep defense and maneuver defense?"

Hessman stood up, nodded at Hitler and Schletcher, and then walked towards the map platform in the conference room. Hitler, Schletcher and other senior figures attending the meeting also followed the map platform.

The map platform is covered with a European situation. The area where Germany "rules" is blue, the Soviet Union is red, and the United Kingdom is dull and gray.

Hessman picked up a baton and first clicked the Baltic coastal areas on the map, saying: "The Borussia state needs to be focused on defense. The Kurran Peninsula, the Gulf of Riga, and the densely forested Estonia have relatively easy to defend. We have been operating there for many years and have very complete defensive facilities in the border areas."

Although the Soviet-German relations have been relatively good in the past twenty years, the Boro Republic and the current Boro state have always been guarding against the Soviet Union. Of course, they will not destroy the "ecological environment" of the Soviet-German border area. Therefore, the Soviet-German border line in the Boro region is still covered by large areas of forest, which is more beneficial to the defense side. And the railways and highways entering the Soviet territory through the forest zone have fortress-level defense facilities to be guarded.

Moreover, Germany also built a large number of military airports in the coastal areas of the Polo state, where medium and long-range bombers could be deployed to threaten Leningrad, and even from there, it could send planes to bomb Moscow, the capital of the Soviet Union.

In addition, as long as Germany defended the state of Polo, the Soviet Red Army must heavily guard Belarus and Leningrad to prevent the German army from launching a large counterattack from Polo.

"In addition to the Bologna, Western Ukraine and the Carpathians also need to be defended in a key way. This includes part of the territory of the Grand Duchy of Galicia, the territory of the Romanian Kingdom, part of the territory of the Hungarian-Croatia Kingdom, and Poland's provinces in Poland. The situation is similar to that of the Bologna, and the terrain of the Western Ukraine-Carpathian region is also conducive to defense. Moreover, it is an important collection site for our country's coal, iron ore, oil and non-ferrous metals, and must be defended at any cost."

Speaking of this, Hessmann then pointed his baton towards central Poland, northern and southern Lithuania.

He said: "While we are focusing on the defenses of the Polo state on the northern line and the Western Ukrainian-Carpathian Mountains on the southern line, we adopt large-depth and mobile defenses on the flat middle area of the Barbarossa defense line... that is, we only deploy the Polish Defense Forces and Lithuanian Defense Forces on the front line based on the fortifications left by the original Pisusky defense line, and at the same time, we will fortify Vilnius, Warsaw, Biavistock, Lublin and Warsaw, and deploy elite German Defense Forces. And in the first line of defense and the rear of Vilnius, Warsaw, Biavistock, Lublin and Warsaw, deploy powerful armor clusters for counterattacks."

"A big U-shaped encirclement?" Hitler stared at the map, listened carefully to Hessman's plan and placing it out, and finally raised his head and asked, "Master of the Empire, are you going to use a super U-shaped encirclement to load all the millions of Stalin's Red Army into it?"

Hessman nodded and replied with a smile: "If Stalin really attacked us by millions of his Red Army troops, then they would definitely be wiped out by us."

"And then go to attack the Soviet Union?" Hitler immediately asked.

Hessman knew that Hitler was an immortal guy who "destroyed Su's heart"! But now he can only follow his meaning.

He nodded and said, "Yes, we will eliminate the most important part of the Soviet Red Army in Poland and then counterattack! I guess Stalin either does not come to attack, or he will definitely want to quickly cross the Polish plain to attack Berlin. We will fight them on Polish land, which is more certain than if we break into the Soviet territory and fight the Red Army in the depths of the Soviet Union."

Hitler suddenly hesitated again, "But... Stalin has 20,000-25,000 tanks. Can we defeat so many Soviet tanks on the Polish Plain?"

The Soviet Union now has the largest armored troops and air force in the world, and the number of tanks exceeded 20,000 in 1940. If the Soviet-German War broke out in 1942, Stalin's tanks would definitely exceed 25,000, and the quality would be greatly improved. Advanced T-34 tanks, KV-1 tanks and KV-2 tanks would be equipped with large numbers of troops. In addition, the Soviet Union may also receive massive trucks and aircraft engines assisted by the United States, which greatly improves the Soviet Red Army's mechanized combat capabilities by several levels.
