Chapter 350 France Don't Cry Part 8

On April 11, 1940, the day after the "Sick Swipe Operation" began, the German Wehrmacht continued their cheating journey. More than a thousand Belgian defenders of Eben-Emacht Fortress surrendered the night before. They made great sacrifices and could not break through the defense of 100 German Superman. Until 9 pm, the Albert Canal crossed by a German motorized infantry battalion entered Eben-Emacht Fortress. As a result, the defenders of Eben-Emacht Fortress collapsed and surrendered to the white flag and 100 Germans could no longer beat them. What else could they fight if there were hundreds more?

The battle at the Fronhofen Bridge also ended at 10 pm on April 10. The 2nd Battalion (Motorized Infantry Battalion) of the "Adolf Hitler" flag team arrived at the west bank of the Albert Canal at around 9:30. Then it took 30 minutes to defeat thousands of Belgian infantry with the 16th assault gun company that had arrived earlier.

Before this, the assault gun company of the Third Motorized Infantry Division and an infantry battalion arrived at the Feldwezelt Bridge, and together with less than 100 Superman commanded by Lieutenant Gustav Ultraman, defeated another Belgian infantry brigade.

At this point, the Eben-Emel Fortress, the Fronhofen Bridge and the Feldwezelt Bridge all fell into the hands of the German army. The road from the city of Maastricht in the Netherlands to the west of the Albert Canal was completely unobstructed. The Liege-Albert defense line in Belgium was broken through by the German army on the first day of the war!

The only unsuccessful "Canad Bridge Battle" in this air raid also ended on the morning of April 11. After paying the "heavy price" of 22 deaths and 26 injuries, the "Soldering Iron Group" commanded by Lieutenant Martin Shacket finally seized the bombed bridge and repelled a Belgian infantry brigade (actually, it took the initiative to retreat).

On the southern line of the "Liege-Albert" defense line, east of Liege, the important town on the Maas River, the German 6th Army led by two armored divisions and also launched a devastating offensive. By 6 pm on April 10, they had advanced 30 kilometers on the Belgian territory, and the vanguard troops reached the outskirts of Liege. This city that blocked the German army for more than 10 days in the last World War and won valuable mobilization and deployment time for the British and French coalition forces was abandoned in the early morning of April 11.

On the morning of the 11th, the vanguard of the German 6th Army entered the city of Liege. Less than 100 kilometers northwest from Liege is the capital of Belgium, Brussels. Antwerp, the largest port city in Belgium, is only less than 110 kilometers away from Liege...

In the quiet coalition headquarters, which seemed like a church, General Ganmolin and Admiral Verick stood in front of the huge sand table, staring blankly as the staff placed wooden signs symbolizing the German army on the plain west of the Liege-Maas-Albert Canal.

Although the coalition did not think of a decisive battle with the Germans on the Liege-Maas-Albert Canal, Ganmolin and Virik did not expect that the defense line that had blocked the Germans for more than 10 days in the last world war would completely collapse within 24 hours.

"Lord (Admiral Verick is not Viscount Gott now, but he has the title of Lord), how long do you think the 100-kilometer plain can stop the Germans?"

"2 days...or 3 days." Admiral Verick estimated the time. "It's still time. The Germans won't get close to Brussels until April 13 at the earliest. Our people will arrive there on April 12."

"It's only one day earlier." Gan Molin frowned. He originally expected the Germans to be blocked for 10-15 days on the Liège-Maas-Albert Canal, so that the British and French forces entering Belgium could calmly unfold their defense.

"This is a very critical day that determines the defeat of Germany!" Admiral Verick was still full of confidence. "After we met with the Belgians, we will have 45-50 divisions, including 8 powerful tank brigades (3 British First Armored Divisions, 1 French Light Mechanized Division each, and 2 and a half brigades of the 1st Armored Division were also regarded as tank brigades by Verick). The number of tanks these tank brigades are no less than that of the German Armored Division, and they are better in quality."

Gan Molin still frowned. He understood what Virik meant, which was to launch a battle against the Germans on the Brussels-Dale River. And it was a battle against the mechanized troops!

"But they have air superiority!" said Admiral Gan Molin, "When will your spitfire plane arrive?"

"It will definitely be in place before the battle begins." Admiral Verick promised.

The British Command was originally unwilling to send precious Spitfire aircraft to France and Belgium's Spitfire fighter jets with complex craftsmanship and production was always low. By April 1940, only a dozen fighter squadrons of the Royal Air Force had replaced Spitfire fighter jets.

These Spitfire fighters not only have to be responsible for the air defense of the British mainland, but also cover the British fleet that blocked the English Channel. Four other squadrons were deployed to the Onik Islands, Iceland, Faroe Islands and Shetland Islands to fight against the Folk Zero fighter jets on the German aircraft carrier that could break through there.

However, the Belgian battle is now in progress. Once the coalition forces are defeated here, the British mainland will be less than 100 kilometers away from the Germans' troops!

The two German "Bismarck"-class battleships may have joined the active service in 1940. By then, the German Navy will have the strength to fight head-on with the Royal Navy. Although the battleships between the German Navy is still not an opponent, the advantages of the Luftwaffe and naval aviation are too obvious. The high-performance fighter jets they own (B-109 and Fock Zero) are conservatively estimated to be more than 1,000! And there are also a large number of high-performance bombers or attack aircraft such as Ju88, Ju87, He-115 and Fock99. Once they cooperate with battleships, it is hard to say whether the British local fleet can still maintain the control of the sea power of the English Channel.

In this case, the British Empire had to consider the issue of desperate efforts. Just before Chamberlain bowed and stepped down, the British wartime cabinet had decided to send Spitfire fighters to participate in the Belgian battle, and at the same time it would also have to expand the army on a large scale. If the Belgian battle failed, the British Empire's homeland might have to rely on the army to defend!

Gan Molin now has to consider not only Belgium, but also pay attention to the north side of the "Magino" defense line. If the German army reaches a breakthrough from the Luxembourg direction and encircles the rear route of the "Magino" defense line, it will be fatal to France. His eyes turn to the empty flank of the "Magino" defense line. After the main force of the 1st Army Group entered Belgium westward, there were almost empty places north of Metz. There were too many areas where the German army could break through, and there were too few reserves in the hands of the French Supreme Command...

...

"General, the main force of the 1st Army Group of the British and French Allied Forces has been dispatched!"

At noon on April 11, General Guderian, the commander of the 1st Armored Army, who was leading his troops through the Arden Forest, received news that the 1st Armored Army Group of the British and French Allied Forces was dispatched. At this time, he was sitting in an armored command vehicle, operating with the 19th Armored Army, the vanguard of the 19th Armored Army. The commander of the 19th Armored Army, was sitting next to him, holding the war situation notice he had just received.

The dozens of divisions of the 1st Army Group of the British and French Allied Forces were of course mobilized, and it was impossible to hide from the German army with air superiority. Therefore, as soon as it was launched, it was discovered by the German Air Force.

"Okay, great!" General Guderian nodded with a smile, "France is almost over... those dozens of divisions cannot be moved. If they move, there will inevitably be gaps in deployment. Now we will win."

Admiral Reinhardt smiled, "If you don't move, Belgium will surrender now. Once Belgium surrenders, the British may have to withdraw their troops and guard their hometown. Isn't it a dead end to France alone to fight alone?"

"Haha, why are you all dead!" Guderian nodded in favor, "I think the French actually died on the 'Magino' defense line... This line not only costs too much, but now it has invested too much troops to guard it. Not only must it defend the 'Magino' defense line, but now it has to cover the flanks of the defense line. The 'Magino' defense line must be defended; Metz, on the north side of the defense line, must be guarded with heavy troops; Belgium must be rescued, otherwise the British will definitely not agree. In this way, how many troops can they have to be treated with? "

There are now more than 100 French divisions who have completed training and equipment, of which fifty or sixty are either guarding the "Magino" defense line or defending the flanks of the "Magino" defense line. There are more than 40 divisions that can be used for mobile combat.

On the one hand, Germany only used it to attract the attention of the "Magino" defense defenders, and the remaining nearly 120 divisions can be used maneuverably!

In addition, most of the more than 40 divisions that the French could use for mobile combat were now transferred to Belgium, Ganmolin and Joseph George's hands, who could use to cover the middle road, were naturally pitifully few.

Guderian looked at his watch and it was 12:13 noon on April 11th Berlin time.

"Where have the Great German Flag Team and the Third Armored Division?" asked Guderian. "When will they arrive near Sedan?"

Admiral Reinhardt looked at the report in his hand and said, "It has arrived at Etar at 10 o'clock, and there are more than 30 kilometers left to break through the Arden Valley, and there are still about 50 kilometers left."
