Chapter 270 The Longest Day IX

September 1, 1939, at 12 noon, Poland, the east bank of the Brahi River.∑,

The sound of cannons, gunshots, explosions, the roar of tank motors, the neighing of war horses, the harsh whistling of ju.87 Stuka dive bombers, and the shouts of people and the screams of dying screams intertwined, forming the most terrifying war dauman singing in the world.

The "Brahi Bridge Battle" known in the history of the "Tuhola Forest Battle" is now in full swing.

The battle party was part of the German Army's Third Armored Division, including an armored cluster composed of the Armored Teaching Battalion, the 15th Heavy Armored Vehicle Reconnaissance Company (Armored Meyer Division), the 14th Motorized Reconnaissance Company and other departments. Major General Schwepenburg, the commander of the Third Armored Division, arrived half an hour ago and took over the command of the entire cluster.

The other party participating in the firefight was the Polish Typhoon Tactical Cluster and the remnants of the Polish 15th Division. Since Major General Gezmot Skonitsky, the commander of the Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Typhoon Continue Command.

Now the entire Polish Coastal Army is hanging on the line! The 15th Division, located in the center of the defense line to the west of the group, almost collapsed, and the Brahi River Bridge is already the last line of defense. If we cannot delay enough time here, the 9th Division and 27th Division of the Coastal Army retreat to the east bank of the Vistula River to rebuild the defense line.

In a few days, the Coastal Army, which has 5 divisions and 2 brigades, will completely collapse. The Modlin Army (placed in the south of East Prussia, is currently under fierce attack by the German Third Army) will be exposed, and the entire Polish defense line may collapse along with it!

On the other side, Major General Schwepenburg, the commander of the German Third Armored Division, almost also arrived at the front line. His armored car stopped on the west side of the Brahi Bridge, and fierce firefighting occurred on the east side of the bridge. The Poles tried their best to block the exit on the east side of the bridge, turning a small wood less than 300 meters from the exit on the east side of the bridge into a fortress "filled with" 37mm guns!

Although it was constantly bombarded by German 75mm guns and dive bombarded by Ju.87, whenever German tanks tried to rush across the bridge, one or two 37mm guns would fire desperately.

The Poles used 37mm anti-tank guns in 1939 and were "road cargo" and almost all armies of all countries have this weapon. The armor-piercing ability of this level (the 37 guns used by European countries are similar in performance) is about 300 meters away (the armor-piercing bullets can barely reach 50mm with tungsten steel armor-piercing bullets). The power is limited when attacking the No. 4 tank head-on (the performance of this 39-year-old No. 4 is better than the same period in history).

But the woods were not directly opposite the bridge, but on the side of the bridge, where the cannons could be placed there to shoot the flank of the No. 4 tank, so it became a big obstacle. After a No. 4 tank was broken, Major General Schwepenburg did not intend to let the precious No. 4 take the risk again.

However, a small Brahi River could not stop the tracks of the 19th Armored Army. Major General Schwepenburg organized a frontal restrained attack while sending people to find shallows that could be crossed.

So, Armored Meyer and his brothers were now searching along the Brahi River. And Meyer was lucky, and he soon discovered it.

"Raise the gun, raise it and attack it, just scare it, you can't kill them." Armored Meyer shouted loudly. He is now carrying several heavy wheeled armored vehicles to chase several Polish cavalry along a small road on the bank of the river. They should be crossing the river to investigate. Meyer estimated that these Poles must know where the river channel is shallow, and where the cavalry can wader, tanks can definitely pass!

"Tadadada..."

Following the instructions of Armored Meyer, Gustav Schwarzenegger carefully manipulated the coaxial machine gun and allowed the bullets to fly over the heads of several Polish cavalrymen.

The Poles seemed to be frightened and beat the war horses desperately, completely forgetting that tanks and armored vehicles could also intercept. They soon ran to the shallow where they crossed the river and ran away without thinking.

"Finished!" Armored Meyer picked up the phone and shouted, "I found a place to cross the river. There is a place to cross the river about 2,500 meters north of the bridge!"

The voice of the division commander Major General Schwepenburg came from the phone: "Leave two armored vehicles to guard the ferry, and other vehicles cross the river to investigate."

"I understand, commander." Meier adjusted the frequency of the telephone again, and then ordered his brothers, "Car No. 4 and Car No. 5 guard the west bank of the ferry. All other vehicles cross the river, Car No. 6 was the first to pass, and then Car No. 1... Brothers, follow me!"

"Tadadada..."

Almost as the No. 4 car under Myer rushed through the shallows, the Poles' machine guns fired. They were not completely unprepared. Every shallow that could be crossed was defended by people, not only equipped with machine guns but also a small number of wz35 anti-tank rifles.

"I hit it! I hit it..."

A young Polish soldier shouted excitedly. A wz35 he operated accurately hit the No. 4 car of Meyer Company. However, the 8-wheel armored vehicle seemed to have nothing to do. He continued to charge and rushed to the river in the blink of an eye.

"I clearly hit it, why is this happening? Hell, this gun is useless!" The Polish soldier shouted, at a loss. In fact, the effective range of this wz35 is not large. When facing the SD.kz.1 heavy-wheeled armored vehicle with a thickness of up to 14.5mm on the front, he must put the opponent very close to the sneak attack.

"Boom!" Meier's voice sounded in every armored vehicle, "They don't have 37 guns or 20 machine guns, they can't stop us!"

...

"Breakthrough? God!" Major General Grimot Skonitsky, who was blown up by the German plane, just arrived and heard bad news that made him unbelievable. Not only did the Polish defense line set in the Tukhora Forest no longer exist, but even the Brahi River has been broken through by the German armored forces.

Is Poland going to perish again?

An ominous premonition arose in everyone's heart.

"Let's retreat to the Vistula line." Major General Puzjakovsky said desperately, "where we can hold on for a few days."

"No, it's impossible!" Major General Gerimot Skonitsky shook his head and pointed to the sky, "The German plane won't let us run away!"

Major General Puzjakovsky thought to himself: their tanks and armored vehicles will not let us run away! The Coastal Army is going to be finished, then the Poznan Army and the Modlin Army... and finally Poland!

"What should I do?" asked Major General Puzakovsky.

"I will take the 16th Lancer Battalion, the 18th Lancer Battalion and the 11th Lancer Battalion to drive the Germans back to the other side of the Brahi River. You will lead the remaining troops to continue to hold on... For Poland, we will always fight to the end!"

"Okay!" Major General Puzjakovsky nodded, "For Poland! Poland will never perish!"

"Yes, Poland will never perish!" Major General Gerimot Skonitsky turned over and pulled out his sabre and waved it. "Brothers from the 16th Lancer Battalion, the 18th Lancer Battalion and the 11th Lancer Battalion, come with me to kill the Germans! Sing "Poland never perish" with me (this is the Polish national anthem)!"

Tanks followed by one, crossed the Brahi River from the shallows discovered by Armored Meyer, and then formed an offensive formation on a wheat field that was beyond the sight. Trucks and semi-tracks also brought a lot of infantry, and they got off on the west bank of the Brahi River and wade across the river. When they arrived, the attack formation composed of tanks and armored vehicles advanced southeast with their companions.

Armored Meyer and his brothers also rode in wheeled armored vehicles, following behind tanks No. 4 and No. 3.

Because the wheeled armored vehicles were taller than the tank, Armored Meyer stood up straight, holding the telescope to act as the eyes of the entire cluster. Soon, an incredible scene appeared in the telescope. The Polish cavalry holding a spear was rushing towards him as if the tide was rushing towards him.

"Oh my God! It's a cavalry! Polish cavalry, there seem to be thousands or more...what are they doing?" Armored Meyer shouted at the telephone.

Then the calm voice of the cluster commander, the commander of the armored teaching battalion, Earl Hazent Stahwitz, came from the phone: "No matter what the Poles are going to do, I admire their courage, but in this era, it is not enough to have courage alone! Now let's destroy all the brave Poles! Armored soldiers, charge!"

Major General Gerimot Skonitsky also saw the rolling German tanks. They were so big, much larger than the TKS tanks under his command (mostly by the Luftwaffe bombed by the Luftwaffe on the road), and also had 75mm cannons. Cavalry was definitely not an opponent, and the only hope was the 16 75mm cannons of the 11th Cavalry Battalion. As long as they could be moved, there was still a glimmer of hope. However, this would take time, and the artillery would take time to unfold...

"Carriage artillery, unfold the position!" He gritted his teeth and ordered loudly, "Others, charge with me!"
