Chapter 250 Preparing for War Part 5

Charles de Gaulle, or the "key defense" plan proposed by the General Staff of the French Army, is actually to defend and guard several big cities. [【Read [Book,.︾.o@

Specifically, it is to defend the four cities of Brest, Pinsk, Kiev and Lviv, which have annexed Ukraine and Lithuania on the right bank, the current border between the Polish Federation and the Soviet Union is curved and long, exceeding 2,000 kilometers! It is obviously unrealistic to deploy the entire line. Even the Pisusky defense line, which was built in the 20s, only focused on defending the Ukrainian region on the right bank, and at the same time, it was deployed in important cities in Western Belarus and Lithuania.

In the suggestion made by Charles de Gaulle, the deployment of the eastern Polish line was further contracted to save troops, while allowing each fortified city to allocate enough troops.

"Brest, Pinsk, Kiev and Lviv should be fortified," said Charles de Gaulle, "and reserve enough food and ammunition to be prepared for 12 months. Every city that focuses on defense should have sufficient troops, at least five inactive infantry divisions need to be deployed, equipped with sufficient number of artillery, and fully mobilized militias."

In today's Poland, cannons are not scarce, and there is no shortage of military sources, especially in the Ukrainian free state, which can even save mobilization!

Because within twenty years after the collapse of Tsarist Russia, the Ukrainian nation and the Russian nation had changed from their original brothers to their current mortal hatred. During the process of Ukraine on the right bank leaving Russia (Soviet Russia), the Ukrainians cleaned up the Russians on the right bank first massacred, and then changed to expel them under the protest of Queen Oliga, but many elderly people and children still died during the expulsion!

Then, it was the Soviet Union's turn to attack the Ukrainians in East Ukraine! In 1929, 1930, and 1931, the "three-year difficult period", Ukraine on the left bank became hell, with millions of Ukrainians starving to death, and the Soviet authorities also prohibited them from escaping to Ukraine on the right bank, and did not allow the Ukrainians in the Polish Federation to help their compatriots...

Moreover, in the twenty years since the right bank Ukraine and Western Ukraine merged into the Ukrainian free state, the Ukrainians there lived a comfortable life with fertile land, rich resources, and small population. Moreover, land splitting was implemented, making life strange if it was difficult.

Therefore, in the Ukrainian Free State, no Ukrainian was looking forward to the liberation of the Soviet Red Army.

Once the Soviet army invaded, the Ukrainian Free State could organize millions of people to participate in the battle effortlessly.

However, the Poles were not assured of the Ukrainians and did not dare to over-arm them before the Soviet Union invaded, otherwise the Ukrainian free state would likely become a Ukrainian Republic!

In addition, Ukrainians, especially Western Ukrainians (Eastern Galicians) have a good impression of Germans.

Because they were originally subjects of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, if they chose to be "German", "Poles" or "Soviet", they would definitely shout "Long live the emperor" in a happy mood.

Therefore, the Polish government did not dare to let too many Ukrainians participate in the battle on the Western Front, with the best strategy for Ukraine defending Ukraine.

Similar situations also occurred in Lithuania, where Lithuanians were forced to join the Polish Federation, and they did not like Russians. If they could not be independent, it would be better to become Germans than to become Poles. In fact, in the past twenty years, many Lithuanians immigrated to Polo and integrated into Polo Germans.

Therefore, in the plans of the French and Poles, Lithuania, except for Vilnius, where the Poles live, was prepared to "quite aside".

However, in the plan proposed by Charles de Gaulle, even Vilnius had to give up. Because it was unrealistic to mobilize the Lithuanian army to defend the city, and putting the Polish army there was a waste of time.

“As for Lithuania, we don’t think it is necessary to deploy other forces other than the Lithuanian Defense Forces,” said Charles de Gaulle. “Vilnius should be an unguarded city.”

Edward Rez-Shimigvi, wearing a proud military uniform of the Polish marshal, pointed his bare head, which recognized the strategy of temporarily giving up Lithuania.

"Lithuania must give up, but...how long can the Eastern Front be delayed?" he asked with some concern, "Is it possible for the Soviet Union to bypass the Brest Fortress and march directly into the heart of Poland?"

"The possibility is very small," replied Admiral Ganmolin, "this is not in the interests of the Soviet Union. Their goal is Ukraine, not to help the Germans defeat Poland as soon as possible. For them, the sooner the war in Ukraine, the better, and the longer the war between Poland and Germany is delayed, the more favorable it is."

This is the result of the French Army General Staff’s research for more than ten years, which is absolutely reliable! And, the same goes for the other way around. The Germans also hope to settle Poland as soon as possible, and then let the Soviets slowly chew on the hard bone of Ukraine.

"The Ukrainians will hold the Soviet Union for us," Edward Rez-Shimigvi was not worried about this. "If French friends can support some weapons, they will definitely delay it for a longer time."

"We are not only weapons, but also military advisers," said Gan Molin. "But the focus of this war is on the land of the Polish free state!" He pointed to Charles de Gaulle, "Charle, you go ahead."

"Yes, General," Charles de Gaulle used the wooden stick in his hand to draw an arc on the map of the west, north and south sides of the Polish headquarters. "If you are unwilling to give up some land to establish a line of defense based on the river, then Poland must arrange a very long line of defense in three directions..."

"No, we cannot give up so much land." Edward Rez-Shimigvi immediately denied Charles de Gaulle's suggestion, which was also the suggestion of the General Staff of the French Army. "Poland is a powerful country. Under the premise that the Ukrainians can hold back the Soviet Union, we Poles have no reason to be afraid of Germany. And as the chief prosecutor of the Polish army, I have no reason to be afraid!"

This is actually a political issue! It is determined by the high national confidence in Poland. Edward Rez-Shimigvi cannot show fear, otherwise he will lose his heart and may be driven out of power by his political opponents until the war begins.

Charles de Gaulle and Gan Molin looked at each other, and this situation was expected!

"Marson, then we can only adopt the division of troops and deployment, while retaining a strong reserve team, and adopting the method of retreating and decisive battle in wartime." De Gaulle said slowly, "Since we have no way to judge the enemy's main attack direction, we can only deploy some troops on the front line evenly. At the same time, we reserve enough reserve teams, and the reserve team should include a powerful cavalry cluster and a mechanized cluster to ensure that we can quickly maneuver to the decisive battlefield."

"Mechanized cluster?" Edward Rez-Shimigvi knew the theory of mechanized war, but the Polish army's degree of mechanization was very low.

Charles de Gaulle said: "It can be composed of 5 tank battalions and 2 motorized brigades. Currently, Poland has more than 100 7TP tanks and 75 R-35 tanks. If production is stepped up, it is hoped that 7TP tanks will be increased to about 200 next spring. Adding 75 R-35 tanks can form 5 tank battalions. They can be combined with your two motorized brigades. If you add a cavalry brigade, you can form a powerful semi-cavalry semi-mechanized strike force!"

...

"General Hessman, 12 P-class armored ships are the key to the Atlantic breaking war, and they must not be cancelled!"

In the Imperial Department of Defense conference room at 73 William Street, Admiral Raidel was losing his temper at this time against Hessman, who was also chairman of the Arms Committee.

The focus of the dispute between the two sides was the construction plan of 12 P-class armored ships. The P-class armored ship is the follow-up to the "German"-class armored ships. In Hessman's view, it is another ironclad evidence that the German ship's level has declined!

With an empty-load displacement of nearly 20,000 tons, it is only equipped with 6 280mm main guns, 14 105-150mm secondary guns, 20 40mm Bofos anti-aircraft guns, and 20 Eritok 20mm anti-aircraft guns, but the firepower of the main gun is too poor! The biggest highlight of this class of armored ships is the high-speed of 32 knots to 34 knots according to the navy.

This allows the P-class armored ship to shake off all battlecruisers and battleships, and its 6 280mm cannons are enough to defeat all British and French heavy patrols, but Hessman is deeply suspicious of this.

"By June 1939, the Navy will have 300 submarines!" Hessman shook his head repeatedly, "There are more than 60 submarines that can perform ocean-going missions. Do you still need to use P-class armored ships to break the battle?"

"General, you don't understand naval battle!" Marshal Redel was also a little amused and crying. Just an army general, just do tanks well. Why do you interfere in the navy? You don't understand.

"The results of the last war have shown that the task of blocking Britain was not possible by submarines. Once the British formed their transport ships and sent destroyers to escort the submarines, the combat efficiency of the submarines would be greatly reduced. Therefore, the best way is to use multiple means at the same time. One is submarines; the second is large-range patrol bombers; and the third is to send a formation composed of two P-class armored ships and decompressors to break into the Atlantic Ocean."

Marshal Redell said: "Whenever two or three double P-class formations break into the Atlantic Ocean, the lifeline of Britain will be temporarily cut off!
