Chapter 1265 Atomic Bomb Twenty-two

Washington, DC, White House bunker.

In the conference room, under the dim and low lights, the US military officials and senior government officials sat in a daze, looking at a telegram in front of everyone. President Truman collapsed in the main seat at the head of the conference table, as if he had just grown ten years old and was motionless.

The telegram actually copied two telegrams, which were sent by Lieutenant General Collins, commander of the Allied Newfoundland Island Ground Forces and commander of the 6th Army of the United States Army, and Lieutenant General Walton Walker, commander of the 20th Army of the United States Army.

The contents of the two telegrams are similar, both reporting the situation of the Germans dropping atomic bombs in Consepshin Bay. Moreover, both telegrams describe the scene of the atomic bomb explosion, a 2,000-meter-high water wall, a huge semicircular condensation cloud, and nine consecutive tsunami-like shore waves. Their power has been affected to 6,000-8,000 meters away, and their power is far beyond the previous estimates of American scientists!

The two American lieutenant generals also made the same judgment: if the atomic bomb explosion occurs on land, the range of the explosion's power will definitely reach more than 100 square kilometers! If the target of the bombing is Manhattan, New York, it will level the entire Manhattan area and millions of people will die...

In other words, the Germans now have a new atomic bomb that is 10 times larger than the 20,000-ton atomic bomb that was piloted in the Algerian desert in 1944! Its equivalent is likely to be 200,000 tons!

Even if the Germans did not use 200,000 tons of equivalent atomic bombs in big cities like New York and Boston, they could use them to destroy the US troops on Trinidad and Bermuda.

If two atomic bombs of the same equivalent explode near the coastlines of Trinidad and Bermuda, 2,000 meters...or hundreds of meters of huge waves will slam the beach violently, and millions of tons of sea water and sea sand will destroy all defenders!

Faced with such a terrifying murderous weapon, the United States has no chance of winning!

No one spoke, and the air pressure in the conference room was getting lower and lower, almost to the point where it was breathless. Suddenly, President Truman's sigh: "Gentlemen, we have lost the war, are we?"

No one answered his question.

"I lost the fight, right?" Truman raised his voice, "If so, please tell me the president!"

Presidential Chief of Staff William Lexi and the War Blast Wallace looked at each other. Lexi sighed and was about to speak, when Wallace spoke first: "Mr. President, we have not been defeated yet, we still have the Patriots plan..."

"Minister, we have lost!" Wallace's words were suddenly interrupted by William Lexi, the President's Chief of Staff. General Lexi made a completely opposite judgment this time. "The mines deployed by the Newfoundland fleet at the entrance of Concepshun Bay, submarines and torpedo speedboats could not withstand the power of atomic bomb explosion. Now, except for the eight 406mm cannons from Churchill Fortress, there is nothing that can stop the German fleet from rushing into the bay. Once their battleships enter the bay, our ground forces will not be able to recover the west coast of Concepshun Bay. Once the west coast of Concepshun Bay is lost, the Germans can easily transport a large number of ground forces from Europe to Newfoundland. At the same time, they can also deploy me264 bombers that can drop atomic bombs on Newfoundland!

So, we have lost the war. Now we must admit defeat and continue to fight... we will lose all the money!"

Wallace frowned and glanced at Truman, who was sitting in the main seat without saying a word, and said, "If you admit defeat now, is 500 billion European Mark enough?"

Truman suddenly trembled when he heard his problem. 500 billion European marks were definitely not enough. That was the price of peace before the atomic bomb was really thrown down. Now the Germans have shown a 200,000 tons equivalent atomic bomb. How could the asking price not rise? Why should it cost 1000 billion European marks?

Moreover, the German army has now landed on Canada and has brought Britain into the coalition forces. If the United States admits defeat at this time, will Germany give up "liberation" of Canada?

"But we defeated!" William Lexi said loudly, "Do you have to wait until the atomic bomb is dropped at the mouth of Hudson before giving up? By then, it will not be a problem of 500 billion European marks or 1000 billion European marks, but a problem of 500 billion US dollars or 1000 billion US dollars."

The Germans had long expressed their position through the Roman Empire not to use atomic bombs against American cities, and most of the highest-level generals of the US military, including William Leach, believed this.

Because the German army in this time and space are not cruel in treating civilians, and has not yet launched devastating bombings on any large city in a hostile country.

"We have countermeasures!" Wallace said, "The Patriots Project should be launched immediately now!"

The senior US military generals were shocked when they heard Wallace's suggestion. The main content of the "Patriot" plan was to use bacterial weapons and chemical weapons to counter the European cities... This also means that Germany is likely to take corresponding retaliation measures to use the atomic bomb to razure New York and Washington!

"Sir, are you crazy?" William Lexi stared at Wallace, "Do you want the Germans to blow our cities into ruins with an atomic bomb? Do you want the United States of America to destroy in our hands?"

"Of course not!" Wallace also retorted loudly, "This is the position! It is the position of our American nation to resolutely resist foreign aggression and fight against fascism and the Nazis to the end. Only by sticking to such a position can we win a decent peace!"

"What kind of decent peace do you want to do now?" William Lexi rolled his eyelids, "Mr. Minister, we must end the war now. The sooner the war ends, the less the United States will suffer!"

"But the power to ratify the peace treaty is in Congress!" Wallace gritted his teeth, "The Republicans are now controlling Congress, and there are many people in the Democratic Party who firmly oppose humiliation and peace."

The Democrats who firmly oppose humiliation and peace are Wallace's own faction. In fact, what they oppose is not to pay the Germans, but to abolish the new policy legislation. Wallace's faction is the most determined New Policy faction in the Democratic Party. They firmly oppose the Democrats using the abolition of the new policy legislation as a condition to win the Republican support for peace talks.

And Wallace is very clear that once the Truman administration and the Democrats are determined to end the humiliating peace, they are actually preparing to sell the interests of the working people of the United States and seek compromise with the Republicans who oppose the New Deal.

So Wallace must make his position clear before Truman and the Democrats beg for the Republican Party. If he cannot stop it (in fact, Wallace does not really want to stop it), he must resign as the Minister of War and at the same time, he will lead several like-minded Democratic lawmakers to join the Bolshevik Party of the United States.

The Democratic Party will become more vulnerable after losing Wallace and some left-wing members, and is likely to collapse before the 1946 midterm elections. Most of the Democratic Party’s original political territory will be divided by the Bolshevik Party and the Fascist Party in this era. The part is a bit strange. Some are racists in the south (because Lincoln is a Republican, so they support the Democratic Party); some are working people in the north, including blacks. In the case of the collapse of the Democratic Party, these two groups will inevitably flow to the Fascist Party and the Bolshevik Party.

From then on, the American political arena will go from a harmonious struggle between the two parties to a trend of two extreme parties to attack the Republican Party.

It is no exaggeration to say that this situation is more harmful than paying $100 billion in war compensation!

However, President Truman is now unable to prevent this political pattern from appearing in the United States. He sighed and was about to end the argument between Wallace and William Lech in a way that demands Wallace's resignation! Ernest King, the Secretary of Navy Operations, who had not spoken in the conference room, suddenly started to shout.

"Oh no, there is our 56th Special Mixed Fleet in the Bay of Fundy!"

"Gulf of Fundy?" Truman was a little confused.

"There are also threats from the German me264 bomber that took off from the Azores!" Ernest King said quickly and urgently, "As long as the shuttle bombing tactic is adopted, the Germans can throw the atomic bomb in the waters where the 56th Special Mixed Fleet is located..."

Before the explosion of Heisenberg Device No. 3, no one would think that the atomic bomb could pose any threat to the fleet sailing at sea. After all, the formation of the fleet in combat operations is very scattered, and there will be no warships on the sea surface of several or ten square kilometers, and even if they are bombed by the atomic bomb, the loss will not be too great.

However, the large bombing in Concepshun Bay showed that the German atomic bomb could destroy or severely damage ships within a range of 100 square kilometers. If several landed in the Bay of Fundy, the 56th Special Mixed Fleet would probably be gone. This is the main fleet with 10 Essex-class aircraft carriers!

"We must keep the 56th Special Mixed Fleet!" Truman immediately yelled, "We cannot be without a fleet, otherwise the United States will be slaughtered!"

The fleet is a tool used to support Newfoundland. If it is gone, Newfoundland will inevitably fall, and the fall of Newfoundland will likely be the beginning of a drastic change in Canada. This will make the United States lose the bargaining chips for negotiations and the number of compensation will soar.

"It can disperse the fleet..." Ernest King just made a suggestion and felt it was inappropriate. "The fleet can be dispersed, there is no problem. The American main battleships all have a speed of about 30 knots, and can run more than 55 kilometers in one hour, and run 100 kilometers in two hours.
