Chapter 103 Restoring Cooperation

When Hungary became a Soviet republic, Hessman was in Budapest. He seemed to have a fate with the Soviets in his life and had personally participated in the birth of three Soviet countries (Soviet Germany is of course fake). He went to Hungary to inspect the construction of the "Special Technical School", investigate the combat readiness of the Hungarian Red Army, and on behalf of the Russian-German Economic Promotion Company, signed several food, arms and coal sales contracts with the newly established Hungarian Soviet regime.

On April 1, 1919, Hessman returned to Berlin and placed both the report and the signed contract on Marshal Hindenburg's desk.

"The Hungarians have that much money?"

Hindenburg looked through the report and contract, looking at it at a glance, asking questions from time to time. Sitting beside him was a 50-year-old general with a very thin, big eyes and monocle glasses. Hans von Seckert Hessmann, a military representative of the German delegation to the Paris Peace Conference, was very familiar with him. Hessmann was his subordinate for most of the world war until he was injured in Romania.

"The Hungarian government implemented the nationalization of banks, so it obtained a large amount of Austro-Hungarian gold and silver coins, and had a certain ability to pay."

After a few months of slaughtering, the economic promotion company controlled by Hessman finally had the opportunity to make a big deal. The Hungarian Bolsheviks, who had just taken power, needed a lot of arms, food and coal, and through the nationalized bank, they also collected many that could be used for international payments and gold and silver.

"The arms and coal are fine, and they can always be obtained in Germany, but where can I get the food?" Hindenburg put down the contract and looked at Hessman. "This is not a small amount of food, but a grain purchase contract worth more than 20 million gold marks! I don't think you want to use German rations to feed the Bolsheviks in Hungary, right?"

The Germans are now as short of food as the Hungarians! The failure of the world war actually started with insufficient food supply. Without enough food, the Hungarians could not resist hungry.

"The blockade against us cannot be lifted for the time being!" Seckert interrupted in a gloomy tone, "After March 21, they did not mention using Germany to send troops to Hungary."

"We don't need German food to let the Soviet Union produce food." Hessman had already made plans, "We will buy Soviet Union's food at a low price and then resell it to the Hungarians...it's estimated that it will make a profit of several million gold marks."

"Russian Ken?" Seckert was very suspicious. "I heard that Russia is starving to death!"

"Ken!" said Hessman, "There are many people in Russia who starve to death and they don't feel sorry for them... The Hungarian Revolution is related to the survival of the Soviet Union, so we must provide all our support. Moreover, the Hungarian Revolution is also very beneficial to us. I think this is also an opportunity for us to repair our relationship with the Russians."

The Hungarian Revolution was actually not that important to the Soviet Union. After the failure of the Hungarian Revolution in history, the Soviet Union still survived and developed. But Lenin and the leaders of the Russian Bolsheviks do not know this now.

Although Britain, France and the United States have not recognized Queen Ogali in Tallinn so far, they have not denied her status. In February 1919, after Germany fell into a small-scale civil war due to the January Revolution, Britain, France and the Empress's government reached some agreements. Without involving the recognition of the Empress's status and Russia's participation in the Paris Peace Conference, the two sides cooperated.

By the end of February 1919, more than 130,000 British and French forces had landed in Novorossiysk, Odessa and Sevastopol in southern Russia through the Black Sea, and successively occupied Batumi, Tifris, Baku and other cities. They also established liaison with the Southern Russian Belarus Guards entrenched in the lower reaches of the Don River, and began to arm the Southern Russian Belarus Army with a large amount of arms.

Because the Soviet Union placed too much troops on Pskov and Petrograd to fight against the Russian Empress in Tallinn, their troops in Southern Russia were weaker than in history, which gave the Cossack-based Southern Russian Belarus Guards an opportunity for rapid development.

By early April, the Southern Russian-Belgian army had already controlled most of the Ukraine and the lower Don River on the left bank of the Dnieper River and the Transcaucasus, including Donesque, Russia's heavy industrial center.

At the same time, the Poles who had just recovered also began to take advantage of the situation. In mid-February, the Soviet-Polish war officially started (there had been a small-scale conflict before). By March, the situation on the battlefield became very beneficial to Poland. In order to use its main force to fight against the White Army, the Red Army could only start from the Kurian border from the north and gradually retreat from the front to Ukraine in the south.

In this situation where internal and external difficulties, the birth of the Hungarian Soviet Republic is equivalent to opening up a second battlefield for the Soviet Union!

Hessman wanted to take this opportunity to bring the Russian-German relationship that had become alienated by Queen Oliga again. In Hessman's memory, in less than two years, the Soviet Union's economic policy will make a 180-degree turn, and the era of new economic policy will come. If relations with the Soviet Union can be restored earlier, the economic promotion company will be able to gain huge benefits from the "Soviet Russia reform and opening up".

"But the fire cannot be kept in the paper, and the Allies will know sooner or later." Von Seckert said, his tone was gloomy and he glanced at Hessman. "The news that came out at the Paris Peace Conference is very bad now. They will definitely not do their jobs in accordance with the "Prince of Fourteen Points Peace". It is said that the French want us to ced to the west of the Rhine, and let the Poles occupy East Prussia, West Prussia and Posen! The compensation must be an astronomical figure, and the first compensation delivered alone is as high as 20 billion goldmarks..."

Hessman said: "That's why we need the Hungarian Soviet Republic! If the Allies fail in Hungary, they will need our Germany, so they must give us benefits. Even if they know that the Hungarians have ever received help from us!"

Von Seckert looked at Hindenburg and said, "I think so too... Since tolerance cannot bring any benefits, why not fight? If the Hungarians' resistance is successful, then who still thinks that Germany can be easily conquered?"

"But will they succeed?" Von Seckert seemed a little doubtful.

"Yes!" Hindenburg smiled contemptuously, "The opponents of the Hungarians are nothing but Czechs and Romanians."

If the Europeans were queuing up a line for combat effectiveness, the Magyars could also be ranked in the long years before 1919, while the Czechs and Romanians had never had any name for bravery. As long as the Hungarians had enough food and weapons, and were guided by German consultants who were good at fighting guerrilla warfare and mobile warfare, there was naturally no possibility of not being able to win.

"But once the Czechs and Romanians fail, Britain and France will end up in person."

"General, I think they will still fail unless they have the help of us and the Austrians."

"Why?" asked Von Seckert.

"Because the Hungarian plains, Transylvania and Slovakia transportation facilities will be completely destroyed during the war."

Hessman said confidently: "And, the entire Hungary will be armed at that time! There will be millions of Red Army and countless guerrillas, and it will be a vast ocean of people's war! The British and French coalition forces will be trapped there! At that time, Britain and France will definitely seek us."
