"On China" Reading Notes (1)

Kissinger, there is no doubt that the first scholar in the United States to study China from a national standpoint. As the advance team and promoter of the easing of Sino-US relations, Henry Kissinger was among the advances and promoters of the easing of Sino-US relations.

On May 27, 2011, Kissinger celebrated his 88th birthday. At the same time, his hard-working work "On China" was officially launched in major bookstores in the United States on this day, and quickly ranked among the top ten on Amazon.

In October 2012, the simplified Chinese version of "On China" was launched.

As the first American official to knock on the door knocker of New China, as a senior diplomat who has visited China more than 50 times in the past 40 years, Kissinger, known as the "American who knows China the best", uses a world perspective,

International perspective, reinterpret China's past and future.

Only after reading the book "On China" will you know that this is Mr. Kissinger's strategic theory and his research results on China's problems for more than ten years. The various data, analysis and conclusions in it are all the "who knows best"

"Chinese Americans" repeatedly studied it and concluded that it is not the imagination of critics who have never even been to China on major TV stations.

The Fall of the Central Empire

In the first half of the book "On China", Kissinger introduces the reasons why China has fallen from the world's most powerful empire to a semi-colonial and semi-feudal society in the late Qing Dynasty.

Before the Qing Dynasty, China, although dynasties changed, it always appeared as a regional power. The idea of "central empire" had penetrated into the bone marrow. But this also led to the Chinese people becoming a unique Chinese self-consciousness.

As for neighboring countries that were willing to trade with China, the Celestial Empire regarded it as "barbarians" and called trade a "tributary" to show recognition of China's supreme status.

China entered modern times with its unique traditions and a sense of superiority developed by thousands of years. The Qing court's policy of closing the country to the outside world made it indifferent to foreign trade and technological innovation. Especially its status as a "craftsman", it always appeared at an extremely low level.

Therefore, for the first time in history, with the help of the torrent of the industrial revolution, the West surpassed China.

The British opened the door to China with the Opium War, and since then, the great powers have arrived in groups. In just 10 years, China fell from its glory and became the goal of colonial strength.

Subsequently, the entire China experienced decades of collapse, exploration, chaos and confusion. Famine, warlord melee, politicians engaged in politics, corrupt officials, etc. were constantly staged in China.

Some people are desperate, even begin to contempt and criticize themselves. What's more, some begin to demand the complete overthrow of the entire Chinese culture. This is undoubtedly the most dangerous era. Countless people die like ants in this era, and no one has hope for this country.

This place has become the object of colonization, humiliation and ridicule among the nations. It has also developed a bunch of Chinese people who are used to bend over and unable to stand up.
