Chapter 8 Night Service

The swordsmanship class starts once a week and starts after lunch, depending on how late the sun sets.

The long summer days, the swordsmanship lessons will be long. The short winter days, the short swordsmanship lessons will be short.

In principle, leave an hour for the officers to have a meal before it is completely dark.

This leads to a problem: the last hour of summer swordsmanship, everyone was hungry.

When they went to the equipment room and even dropped the training armor, Winters and Ike didn't even have time to change their regular clothes, so they rushed to the school cafeteria to eat voraciously.

After dinner, they went to take a shower. When they returned to the students' dormitory, the sun had already set.

Oil lamps were lit in the dormitory, and those military academies who were not from the provincial government had already started to pack up their luggage and prepare to set off to return home tomorrow.

Axel's home is in Guitucheng, and you can get there by foot, so you are not in a hurry at all.

He was about to wash his armed clothes, but found Winters lying on the bed without moving.

"Let's go to bed now?" Ike slapped Winters in the back: "Don't pack up?"

"Let's talk about it tomorrow." Winters was full, so he was weak.

Tiredness, pain and sleepiness took turns to hit Winters, and he just wanted to sleep at this moment.

"What should you do with your armed clothes? If you don't wash them, they will be rotten until tomorrow." Ike asked with a frown.

Winters weighed "get up and do laundry" and "continue to sleep", and chose "continue to sleep".

"No, throw it away." He buried his head hard in the pillow: "Who wants to give it to whom."

"A good set of clothes, throw them away as soon as you say you want to throw them away. You also say you need to practice swordsmanship when you go home..." Axel picked up his friend's armed clothes and threw them into his washing basin.

But Winters could no longer hear what Ike was saying, and his friend's voice came in and out of his left ear.

A second before he was about to lose consciousness, Winters suddenly remembered that there was something tonight.

He jumped out of bed, shocking Ike to take a big step back.

"I remembered it." Winters frowned and said, "I will still be on duty tonight."

He took a deep breath and let out a cry from the deepest part of his chest.

"Don't you go to the post to sleep?" Ike asked in his arms with the washing basin.

Without having time to answer, Winters grabbed his shirt and hurried out of the dormitory.

There are three gates in the Army Officers Academy located in the southeast of Guitu City.

There are two shifts per day in each department. Each shift has six people, two people each in grades one, two and three.

The Land Institute has three disciplines: Cavalry, Infantry and Artillery Department, each discipline is floating between 55 and 60 people per year.

Therefore, on average, officers are on duty every month and on duty one day and another night shift.

Winters ran all the way to the north gate. Before the officers on duty on Rigang had left, the first and second-year students who came to change their duties were already waiting in advance.

"Hello class monitor." The lower-grade students saluted when they saw Winters.

Calling seniors as class leaders is a tradition in the Land Academy.

Because when freshmen enter school, they will be the second grade as their deputy class leader and the third grade as their class leader to lead freshmen to train.

Therefore, in the Military Academy, the lower-grade officers did not care whether they knew each other or not, and they called the class monitor when they saw the senior.

Winters replied with a gift and hurried into the duty room. Another third-grade officer on the night post was waiting for him.

"You're here, Bud." Winters greeted.

The officer named "Bard" was born in a height of over 1.7 meters. He was a honest young man with thick shoulders, big hands, wide mouth, broad nose, thick eyebrows and big eyes.

In Winters' eyes, all the other person's appearance characteristics show that he is a gentle, simple and tolerant person.

When Bud saw Winters coming, he gently punched Winters on the shoulder, grinning and smiling with two rows of teeth on the upper and lower sides.

Winters was caught by the bruises he had left when he was fighting today, and he was so painful that he sucked in a cold air.

"What?" Bud didn't understand how a light punch made Winters react so much.

"Today I was in swordsmanship, my shoulders were ruthless, nothing big happened."

"Master?" Bud asked with a smile, and he understood everything at once.

Winters pulled a chair, sat down with a big golden knife, and said proudly: "You didn't see it. I scored 17 points in Ike's hands today. Ike was beaten up by me, but unfortunately I was not strong enough, otherwise Ike's unbeaten record would be broken today."

"Seriously?" Bud laughed.

No one has ever beaten Axel, the master swordsman, and not many people can get 17 points in Ike's hands.

Winters was confident: "How could I brag? So many people watched in class."

Bud switched to Winters and punched hard on his shoulder: "Seventeen points! Great! What a pity!"

A head came into the door, and it was a first-grade student.

The junior raised his hand to salute and whispered: "Squad leader, the instructor on duty is here."

Winters and the other men tidied up their appearance and walked out of the student duty room.

The night shift is different from the day shift. There are no patrol tasks on the day shift. Six people are on duty for a whole day and one group is on duty for four hours.

Arrive before duty and leave after duty.

However, night shift posts are more complicated and there are also patrol tasks. Therefore, the duty process of night shift posts is for each group of people to stand for four hours, patrol for four hours, and sleep for four hours. This ensures that there are a group of people patrolling at the same time, one group of people stands on guard, and the remaining group of people to sleep.

The night shift post cannot go back to the dormitory to sleep, so two small brick houses are built next to the gate and inside the wall, which are used as student duty rooms and teacher duty rooms for the staff at the station to rest at night.

The guards resting in the duty room can also play the role of "supporting anytime when encountering emergencies".

Why are there teachers' lounges? Because teachers also take turns to work on night shifts. The school believes that night shifts are complicated and there are not enough students alone. Once an emergency occurs, an active-duty officer must be present to be safe.

Theoretically, all teachers, from principals to lecturers, have an obligation to work night shifts.

But in fact, only the poor young teachers need to work on night shifts. Their common characteristics are: "New recruits, low rank, live in employee dormitories, and they are still bachelors."

However, teachers do not need to stand guard, they just need to sleep in the teacher's lounge.

The one who came was a short weapon teacher with red cheeks and the buttons of his shirt were unbuttoned to the third one under the collar, obviously he had drunk wine.

The two men who had not left their duty on the day shift, six men who were on the night shift, and a total of eight men who stood in a strait under Winters.

Everyone stood up with their spirits, and the teachers on duty nodded expressionlessly - even the night shifters were not in a good mood - picked up the duty schedule and started to call.

"Wentes Montagne!"

"arrive!"

"Gerard's Bud!"

"arrive!"

Bud's name is strange because Bud doesn't have a last name.

Gerald is his hometown, calling him "Gerard's Bud", distinguishing him from other "Buds".

Maybe one day, Bud will take Gerald as his surname. But now he is called Bud, and in formal occasions, he is called Gud of Gerald.

Afterwards, the teacher clicked the name, picked up a quill and dipped it on his tongue, and ticked it on the sign book.

"Have you ever been the weapon?" he asked again.

Winters only talked with Bud and did not count the weapons.

But Bud touched Winters lightly, and the latter immediately understood-Bad clicked.

So Winters replied loudly: "Six long halberds and six muskets, count them correctly."

"Okay, disband! Call me if you have something to do." The teacher on duty nodded again and went into the teacher's duty room to sleep.

The two juniors who were standing in Rigang said goodbye and hurried to the dormitory.
