Chapter 49 Offensive and Defensive(1/2)

When the Hudds built siege equipment overnight, another group of people were also busy thousands of miles away.

On the main island of the Tanilia Islands, the upper reaches of the Gilded River, on the side controlled by Veneta, a small fortress is under intense construction.

The Gilded River from east to west divides the main island into two. Jingang, which is famous for its prosperity and depravity, is located on the north shore of the mouth of the Gilded River.

With the Gilded River as the boundary, Venetta and the Union Province each occupy half of the main islands.

At dawn, the sun has not yet appeared.

Winters on the west bank of the Styx was waiting for the next move of the Hurds, and the fortress on the Gild River had already taken shape.

There were only sporadic torches on the fortress construction site. Wherever you saw, hundreds of soldiers were burying their heads to dig trenches, and the live ammunition sentry was vigilantly guarding the surroundings.

"Lt. Roy!" Lieutenant Colonel Evans, who was in charge of this mission, found his subordinates: "According to the original plan, you will officially move in after the trench wall is closed, remember..."

The shrill and sharp whistle interrupted Lieutenant Colonel Evans's instructions.

There was no sign of a figure popping out of the open space not far from the fortress.

The man roared: "Great Venetta!"

More people climbed up from the ground: "Kazar!"

People on the construction site ran towards weapons, and sentries around the fortress fired one after another, but they could not stop the Vineta people from shouting and rushing through the trench.

The Venetta soldiers holding sticks beat people when they saw them, and only a few soldiers still remembered the order "Don't take the lead".

The attacking side came prepared, and the defending side was suddenly attacked. The Vineta people rushed all the way to the Gilded River bank.

When Lieutenant General Serbiati arrived at the scene, the battle was over.

Except for a few people who fled in a swim, most of the soldiers in the United Provinces were captured.

The bruised and swollen United Provincial soldiers were tied into a string and squatted in the trench waiting to fall.

Lieutenant Juan, who was commanding the raid, brought a shark sheath, ivory hand and pearl-decorated sword to the lieutenant general.

[Note: Last year's Lieutenant Juan has been promoted and transferred to the Third Legion]

"Good job." Antonio took the sword and ordered the captain: "Release the prisoners, and return them to their weapons and armor."

"We have to return the seized weapons and armor?"

"That's right."

Lieutenant Juan couldn't accept it, and he stammered his neck and said, "Sir, we are dead too!"

"Captain, absolutely kindness or absolute cruelty, only these two options." Antonio explained patiently: "We are now brotherly allies in the Union. Once the purpose has been achieved, we do not have to infuriate them anymore. Execute the orders."

Juan saluted and left without saying a word.

Later, Commander of the Serbiati Legion met Lieutenant Colonel Evans.

Evans no longer had the graceful demeanor he had before, now his hair and beard are messy and his clothes are disheveled, and he looks embarrassed.

Handing the luxurious little sword to the other party, Antonio said gently: "Mr. Lieutenant Colonel, I think you have crossed the line."

Evans took the sword, avoided the lieutenant general's sight, and replied in a muffled voice: "We have never crossed the boundary with you. This is now the land of the province of Tanilla, and so will it in the future."

Antonio didn't argue, and turned around and ordered the guards: "Take a horse to Lieutenant Colonel Evans."

"No need! I have legs, I can walk by myself." Evans was stubborn: "Good, please say goodbye."

The lieutenant colonel of the United Provinces raised his hand to salute and strode into the captives' queue.

Behind them, Don Juan's 100 team entered the fort, picked up picks, shovels, and continued construction.

...

The conflict on the banks of the Gilded River has come to an end, and the two sides on the west bank of the Styx are about to meet again.

In the morning light, the commander Alaric, carrying his helmet, came to the camp gate again.

During this meeting, both sides didn't even get off the horse.

Alaric asked directly: "Sir, how are you thinking?"

"It's still being studied." Jeska smacked his lips and said, "But I thought of a plan that doesn't hurt the peace."

"Speaking."

"Follow the ancient etiquette and use a quick battle to determine the outcome. You can send the warriors who can fight the most, and we will send him here." Jeska pointed at Lieutenant Montane behind him: "You see, this kid is not a big-sleeved, round-waisted man, it's very cost-effective?"

Winters, who was accidentally named, looked shocked.

Alaric said nothing and left with a sneer.

"What do you mean?" Winters asked angrily.

"He couldn't agree. Even if he really agreed, are you still afraid of losing? Are you not a spellcaster?"

"When did you know..."

Jeska snorted: "You can hide it from the civilians, or you can hide it from me? Don't worry, at worst, you can burn the bridge and retreat to the east bank."

"Just burn now!" Winters asked.

"Bull it all!" Jeska whipped the lieutenant: "There is only this floating bridge on the river. What should I do if I burn the army in front of it?"

The winter air is solemn and the strong wind suddenly rises. The west wind is holding the dead grass, making people unable to open their eyes.

The sound of horns came from a distance. The Hudd martyr, who was pushing various wooden weapons, appeared on the horizon.

In the barracks, Father Kaman and Friar Reed were leading the people to make their final prayers.

The old monk changed his usual style of laughing, anger and scolding, and his expression was extremely solemn and solemn.

Father Kaman dipped his sweep into holy water and sprinkled the kneeling people.

Due to the atmosphere, Winters in the crowd also knelt on one knee.

He stared at the portrait of Anna and the wood sculpture of Athena on his palm, thinking to himself: "When people encounter powerless things, they will instinctively ask for help. If you can hear my heart, Anna, I just want to go back to you."

After the prayer ended, Winters clasped the locket, gently pressed it on his forehead, and carefully put it on his neck.

In the Aqua City thousands of miles away, Anna Navare woke up from his dream, and for some reason tears fell from the corner of his eyes.

...

...

At noon, the Heds' third attack was repelled. But they did not walk far away and repaired two hundred meters away from the camp.

More than a dozen large carts were lying within thirty steps of the west wall of the camp, and the carts were covered with bullet holes and arrows.

The horse-rejected pile on the west side of the camp has been pulled out by the Hed cavalry with ropes.

The Hudd also dragged all the pulled horse-repelled piles away, not giving the Palatou a chance to re-plug them.

The prefabricated house in the center of the camp was set up as a medical center, and the seriously injured Palatuns were taken here for treatment, while the slightly injured Palatuns were dealt with at their posts.

"Person Montagne!" Pierre searched between the wounded and the corpse and shouted: "Person Montagne!"

"What's wrong? Mr. Mitchell?" Father Kaman had just pulled the arrow for a wounded man and asked the clamoring little Dusak in displeasure.

Among the people, only Kaman had orthodox surgical training. Whether he wanted to touch blood or not, he had to pick up the knife at this moment.

"Lieutenant Colonel asked me to come to Lieutenant Montagne!" Pierre was anxious.

Kaman was defacing and answering without raising his head: "Princess Montane has cleaned his eyes and has gone back."

By the wall of the camp, Lieutenant Colonel Jeska had personally found Lieutenant Montagne.

Winters, with bloodshot eyes, nodded repeatedly while listening to the lieutenant colonel.

In the battle just now, a panicked musketeer just stretched his gun over the lieutenant's shoulder and opened fire recklessly.

The lieutenant was dizzy, and the flames burned half of the lieutenant's eyebrows. The smoke of gunpowder even sprayed into the lieutenant's eyes, causing him to be blind for a moment.

Charles and Berryon immediately sent Winters to Kaman to deal with the injury.

Fortunately, there were no external injuries. After cleaning his eyes, Winters rushed back to the defense line as soon as possible.

The carriage abandoned by the baggage team has now fallen into the opponent's hand. The Heds nailed plyboards on the car box and poured soil between the plyboards to cover the bullet arrows.

Relying on simple rushing, the Hed cavalry replaced the hard bow and heavy arrows to shoot with the Palatus, causing a large number of casualties.

The Paratus, who had only three one-pound rotating cannons, were helpless in the face of the dirt car.

The officers were very regretful that they did not simply burn the abandoned carriage. They had a hint of "picking up the carriage in the future and using it."

"You have to burn those carts." Jeska glared at the big cart outside the wall: "You bring people, bring more lamp oil and rosin, I will transfer the musketeers from other teams to cover you."

"Farewell." Winters laughed and put on his helmet: "I'm even more worried about being killed by your musketeer!"

Others around him burst into laughter.

Winters was really afraid of being shot in the back by a fool, but he had to look fearless because "the officers are not afraid, but the soldiers are not afraid."

Carrying the fire-attracting object, Winters led a few Dusaks to rush out of the camp gate.

The Hudds in the distance also noticed the movements of the defenders. A group of riders quickly jumped onto the saddle and approached Winters and the others.

The rotating cannon fired first, and the solid shells flew towards the Hed cavalry, only firing up a few balls of dust.
