Chapter 11 Beast Hunting Team(1/2)
A fierce debate is underway at Mitchell's dining table.
To be precise, this is not a debate with equal significance, but a one-sided defeat.
The old beggar monk won a great victory, while Father Anthony was getting closer and closer to being angry to death.
Priest Anthony of the Wolf Town Church turned red and his voice was rapid: "...The essence of the church is the worship of personality, and the Lord is truly transformed into human beings, and not in the image of Pharaoh, King and Emperor, but in the image of a humble farmer in Galilee. This is an unprecedented concept, and it is this that has caused more and more people to convert and accept the gospel."
The old beggar monk Rhet sneered and asked, "Then tell the believers that the Son of God is just a humble farmer in Galilee to see if they were moved or you were stoned to death? What is deification to be a human? Here, thousands of miles away, there are people who can turn into God's religion!"
"But isn't it just that our ability to replace the ancient cult shows the destiny of the Catholic Church?"
"The rise of the Catholic Church only shows one thing, that is, there are people above to do things. The Western church was supported by the empire and finally changed from a church of the poor and oppressed to a church of the powerful. I would like to ask you, another pagan in the land of the Saracen people also achieved the same status as the Catholic Church. The Eastern church there could only be a second-class citizen. Do you agree with the fate of the paganism?"
Father Anthony's breathing stagnated and almost passed away.
The old beggar monk took a sip of wine leisurely and contentedly. The smile on his face made Father Anthony suddenly want to punch him in his nose.
The two of them used old languages, and there were many ancient vocabulary mixed in between.
Apart from the two who were arguing, the only ones in Mitchell's family who could understand these words were Father Kaman and Winters.
Mitchell's son Pierre went to find the ponytailer Angru, and there were only Mitchells and their unmarried daughter Scarlett on the dining table.
Girard's little daughter was all about the lieutenant, and she kept secretly glancing at Lt Montane. Girard didn't understand why the two priests were arguing, although he couldn't understand what the two were arguing.
However, the Mitchells should be glad that they did not understand the "shocking" of the two clergy. In the eyes of ordinary believers, they could continue to respect the two priests.
Among the two people who could understand, Father Kaman was expressionless, while Winters was absent-minded.
Nothing was found in the pursuit of the ferocious beast, and blood and breath disappeared in a stream. The thing waded for a distance, and the water flow covered its traces.
Winters and his men searched for several kilometers along the mountain stream, but the best hounds in Dusa Village could not smell where the thing was.
This primeval forest is so vast that when a hundred people throw it in, it is like a glass of water pouring into the desert. The search range is extremely limited, just like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Seeing the sun gradually drooping westward, humans were unable to move at night, but wild animals were like fish in water. Worried that the "hunting beasts" would become "beast hunters", Winters had to let the militia withdraw from the mountains.
Compared with the failed hunting, what made Winters even more angry was the indifferentness of the two Protestant villages to the beast disaster.
Before leading the Dusaks into the forest, Winters sent riders to the other four villages to summon militias. The militias from Hedong and Hexi villages rushed over under the leadership of the village chief and joined the search operation.
However, Nanxin and Beixin villages did not send any personnel from beginning to end.
But when Winters questioned the village chiefs of the two villages, they both used the reasons that "I thought Dusak was teasing us" and "it would have no effect on whether we go or not."
It is more hated than the enemy's attacks, only betrayal.
If it weren't for the two Protestant village chiefs, the furious Lieutenant Montane could have killed the two wastes on the spot.
Any outsider is so indignant, let alone what Dusaks feels.
The elder of Dusa Village, Sergei, almost drew his sword to kill the two Protestant village chiefs. The old man who was pulled was beaten his chest and stamped his feet, and sweared that he would not extend any help to them even if the apostates died.
A small wolf town, the people's sentiments are so complicated that they are as difficult to understand as messy.
Winters had no intention of intervening in it. He only hoped that the villages could work together to solve the wolf disaster as soon as possible. Because he knew that he would go back to Venetta sooner or later and did not want to leave a mess.
But now that the ferocious beast has not been seen, the battle between several villages is about to begin.
Lieutenant Montane even missed the hard battles in Taniria. At least at that time the enemy was the enemy and friends were friends. It was boring that there were no trivial matters in front of him.
Winters really had no appetite, so he thanked Mrs. Mitchell for the hospitality and left the dining table.
After a while, Father Kaman also stood up and said goodbye. After leaving the restaurant, he walked straight to the back of the house.
There, Lieutenant Montane was pacing and pondering.
Wake up by the sound of Kaman's footsteps, Winters asked casually: "Your brother Reed dares to speak, and he is not afraid of being sent to the stolen rack. It is because of this that you placed him here with me, right?"
"Friend Reed is just deliberately angering Father Anthony and teasing him." Father Kaman bowed and sat casually on a barrel: "The debate of the theologians is like blasphemy in the ears of believers, which is normal. The public church does not have the habit of burning clergy. What's more, the brothers Reed have a special identity and can speak freely."
“Where is special?”
Father Kaman replied lightly: "Specially in the 'introducer'. Twenty-nine years ago, the Saracen people captured Rhode Island. President Philip of the Knights Monastery of Rhode Island was martyred and later sanctified. The Reed brothers were originally a Bodhi monk who converted to the church under the inspiration of the saint Philip and were personally consecrated by the saints to become clergy."
"It turns out that saints also have nepotism."
"It is said that he admitted that the priesthood of Monk Reed wanted to send him to the Far East to preach, but he did not expect that he would stay here and not leave, which made the inaugurated pope very angry." Kaman smiled: "Myster Reed traveled around the world, was knowledgeable, and quoted widely during debates. Although his theological views were very dangerous, no one refuted him, and many famous debaters were beaten to pieces by him."

"Who made him just a powerless monk? How many priests in the church who can abide by the celibacy and the oath of poverty? With the noble character of the brothers Reed, it is not an exaggeration to be sanctified after their death."
Winters didn't care: "Does that old man still have such skills? Then I should invite him to Nanxin Village and Beixin Village to see if he can settle the farmers there."
"Haha, if you send monk Reed over there, you might be able to relieve the bishops' sect."
"Heart disease?"
"Heart disease." Father Kaman stretched his waist and said lazily: "I can't argue but I can't kill you. What's not a heart disease?"
"Mr. Kaman, you will probably be sad when you see this now by your believers."
"But you don't believe it." Father Kaman yawned: "So there is no need to do ritual things between us, it's boring."
As he said that, Father Kaman took out a pipe filled with tobacco leaves from his pocket and handed it to Winters.
Winters was stunned: "I don't smoke."
"I'm not handing you a cigarette," Kaman said with a smile: "I'm asking you to light it for me."
"What does it mean?" Winters became alert.
"Stop pretending, Lieutenant Montane." Kaman asked with a smile: "You are a magician, aren't you?"
Winters snorted coldly, not saying anything.
Father Kaman continued on his own: "There are only two kinds of people in the South that are not believers, one is a magician and the other is a devil worshiper. Are you a devil worshiper? Lieutenant Montane?"
Winters ignored him.
"Since I'm not a devil worshipper, I can only be a magician." Father Kaman shook the pipe in his hand: "Lieutenant, I have no ill intentions towards you."
Winters took the pipe and lit the tobacco.
Magic and evil wizards are always confused among the people, so after coming to Wolf Town, Winters never showed his identity as a spellcaster, and this is the first time he has shown magical abilities in front of others.
"People who say no malice are often the most malicious." Winters handed his pipe back.
Father Kaman took the pipe, but just held it in his hand and didn't enjoy it: "I'm just curious."
"What are you curious about?"
"I understand your concerns." Father Kaman sighed and said seriously: "But please don't worry, as long as you don't hurt the believers of this parish, I will not tell you the identity of a magician, let alone do anything against you with this."
Winters sneered, "It seems that the caster is no different from the devil believer in your eyes."
Father Kaman laughed and asked, "Isn't the priest the same in your eyes?"
Winters suddenly looked into the distance, and he vaguely heard the sound of horse hooves. The sound was getting closer and clearer, and soon Father Kaman could hear it clearly. Yes, a rider was running towards Mitchell's house.
Winters and Kaman looked at each other and immediately headed to the front door.
The rider brought another bad news, and the evil beast appeared again.
After receiving the news, Gillard immediately took out his war horse and set off for the scene with full arms.
It was already dark and there was no time to summon the militia, but Father Kaman volunteered to go with him.
...
The place where the evil beasts were acting fierce this time was not the five villages under the jurisdiction of Wolf Town, but the forest farm.
A lumberjack walked out of the shack to pee, but encountered a ferocious beast. Other lumberjacks heard howls and cry for help from outside the house, and rescued the unfortunate lumberjack by knocking on iron tools.
When Winters and others arrived at the forest farm, they saw a bloody and bloody wounded lying on the bed and dying. The injured person's left ankle had disappeared, leaving only a terrible broken flesh and blood.
An old worker who knew some medical skills strangled the injured person's calf with a hemp rope to try to stop the bleeding, but the dark red liquid was still seeping out of the wound, and the bed sheets at the injured person's feet were soaked with blood.
For the poor lumberjack, death was only a matter of time, and Father Kaman was already making his last prayer.
"Did he see what it is?" Winters found the foreman and asked, "Did you see what it is?"
"It's a bear!" The foreman's body still couldn't help but tremble: "A bear as big as a house!"
...
The unfortunate lumberjack died at night.
The foreman assigned two workers to dig a shallow pit to bury the body, and the others who divided the deceased's rags were completed, even if the funeral was completed. The whole process was shockingly sloppy.
When he first learned that there was a forest farm in Wolf Town, Winters thought it was a small timber factory with more than a dozen employees.
After arriving at the forest farm, Winters discovered that this was a large logging team of hundreds of people, and the number was not much different from that of a small village.
The logging team's camp went deep into the woodland and was far away from the crowd. It was simply a meal on the plate in front of the ferocious beast. The manager heard that there was a wolf disaster, so he had already run back to the county seat, leaving only a few foremen here to maintain order.
Not only that, the living conditions of loggers are also unimaginably crowded and harsh. Winters doesn't know where the manager hired workers who are willing to work in such places.
"I guess the bear will come again." Winters and Gillard discussed: "These lumberjacks are all young and strong. Can they be incorporated into the militia?"
"I'm afraid not. They are not residents of Wolf Town, but were hired to cut down trees." Gillard said with a wry smile: "After cutting down these hundreds of acres of woodland, they left. The wolf disaster has nothing to do with them, and we have no jurisdiction over them. If they are allowed to be militias, the merchants who bought the logging rights will not agree, and they will not agree to it themselves."
"Didn't the logging rights be bought from you?"
