Chapter 847 Bat Fighter
As the soul of the entire crew, Duke's use of imax cameras will be more frequent and deeper than the previous film "Dark Knight". "The Rise of the Dark Knight" will also be the film with the most imax lenses in film history, and the number is estimated to reach 50% of the entire film.
To this end, Imax provides Duke with four cameras designed and manufactured by Marty Mueller. These heavy cameras are handmade, each with a different personality, but they are basically unified in formats and all parts are interchangeable.
Each imax camera is equipped with its own fixed-focus lens, which is divided into 4mm, 5mm, mm, 11mm, 15mm and 25mm. Many of the lenses are also equipped with t2 with 65mm adapter rings. Hasselbladder camera lenses with aperture and medium-frame picture. The focus of the camera lens will not be easily affected.
Focusing on the imax camera is quite troublesome. In the past, John Schwartzmann was unable to focus manually, so he needed to use a remote focus device equipped with a torque motor to operate the entire process.
During the preparation period, Duke put forward some requirements for the use of imax cameras based on previous technical experience, allowing imax technical engineers to improve certain lenses and create a new viewfinder.
Duke wants IMAX to modify an mm, a Mamia lens with a t2 aperture for "The Dark Knight Rises", and a 5mm, t2.5 aperture medium format camera lens.
IMAX technical engineers abandoned the IMAX mechanical parts in the mm lens and replaced it with a movie-specific Panavison converter. They also remodeled the entire lens' head according to Duke's requirements to make it suitable for a mechanical aperture device.
The lens modification of 5mm and t2.5 aperture is different. Imax people put most of the lenses into a new lens barrel and transformed them into a more stable lens converter.
In addition, they also created a custom lens with a 5mm, t2 aperture based on the construction principle of the reverse telephoto lens.
These are the basis for shooting. Without excellent equipment, no matter how good the idea is, it can only exist on the head and paper of the director.
During the entire preliminary preparations, although Duke may not be involved in every job in depth, the final result of any job must be reviewed by him as the director.
"The Dark Knight Rises" requires a lot of outdoor scenes. In addition to taking pictures at Warner Studios and Hughes Aircraft Factory, Duke is also inspecting suitable outdoor scenes. Since the project was launched, not only did Chicago, the original Chicago was trying to continue filming in the crew, but also cities such as New York, Pittsburgh and Detroit also sent invitations to Duke.
He and Charles Rowan also went to these cities for a walk. It was initially confirmed that the film was mainly filmed from New York and Chicago.
In addition, as time goes by, many studio scenes in Warner Studios have reached the end.
Wayne Manor, the original Bat Cave, was burned by the Ninja Master in "Batman: The Moment of War", so in "The Dark Knight", Bruce Wayne had to temporarily move his base camp to the Bathouse.
In this film, Duke will rebuild Wayne Manor, including the Bat Cave.
The Bat Cave still chose the Hughes Aircraft Factory's huge studio, and continued to use the idea of "flooded Bat Cave" and everything is hidden underwater. When anyone first entered, they could only see an ordinary bat cave, but after finding the key button, there will be many perfectly presented blocks, loaded with various equipment, from bat suits to super-advanced computers, everything is available.
The Hughes Aircraft Factory studio has a huge water tank that can carry more than 720,000 gallons of water, which can easily meet Duke's requirements for the bat cave.
The sewage system that is underground in Gotham City is Bain's combat base in the film. Another hangar at Hughes Aircraft Factory is the construction site of this scene. Since it is an airship hangar itself, the cave-like appearance provides the crew with natural conditions to build a tunnel to the concrete and corrugated steel structure, up to several floors.
To provide lighting for the scene, Duke intends to use super-oversensitive lighting when shooting to turn this place into an arena-like place.
In this way, those super bright dot lights will illuminate the whitening effect and create an upset and uncomfortable environment.
The set of Hughes hangar also provides a platform for a more complex, spectacular, multi-level scene to build a creepy underground prison.
It is completely different from hiding underground. Bain's nest. This prison is like a pile of rock cages that appear in an endless abyss. It is full of mazes, and the cage doors with fences are not locked, because they are not afraid of prisoners running away. The only way out is a super high column that cannot be climbed to the ground.
To build this scene, the crew made two pillars in the hangar. The tallest one was nearly 250 feet tall. Duke, the prison ground outdoor scene, was preparing to shoot in Jodhpur, a city in northwestern India. Tina Fei had inspected it in the past and brought the video footage of the film, where the sinister landforms could increase the sense of desolation of the plot of the film.
In sharp contrast to these remote areas, the magnificent appearance of Wayne Manor, Duke chose the scene in Nottingham, England. He had called Erin Lauder before and would continue to use her cousin’s ancient villa to shoot.
The interior of the manor is set at Warner Studios. Although Bruce Wayne fulfilled his promise and restored the original appearance of Wayne Manor brick by tile, the interior of the house does not look like a home where someone lives, but just a house.
In the first two parts of the trilogy, Chicago was regarded as the city background of Gotham City. The two Batman films also increased the popularity of this declining industrial city, especially the promotion of tourism. Even the Batman Gotham Parade has become a routine program in Chicago.
In order to win Duke's crew, Pittsburgh also offered extremely generous conditions for the crew. Not only did it have huge tax incentives, but the municipal government also cooperated with the crew to block the street shooting without restrictions. These real discounts also impressed Duke. In the end, three cities were selected as the "stand-in" of Gotham City, namely Pittsburgh, Chicago and New York.
In the storyboard artworks created by Anna Prinz, more than two urban styles began to appear in the background of plot development. They began in one city, and unknowingly ended with another city.
In order to achieve seamless connection and maintain coherence, the crew will film in different cities, different seasons and different time periods.
In this way, in order to connect sunlight and present the same light, the crew must spend a certain amount of time and planning, so that the only way is to ensure that the legs are not exposed.
John Schwartzmann and Duke and the sub-site manager have done a lot of deployment work, in order to accurately grasp the shooting time period and specific street locations, and provide guarantees for future post-production.
In addition, Charles Rowan ended another negotiation and finalized the film's soundtrack team.
This time the soundtrack is still played by Hans Jimo and his team, and he also won the soundtrack of the "Dark Knight" trilogy.
After the two parties signed the contract, as a commercial soundtrack master, Hans Jimo knew how to cooperate with the publicity and specially accepted an interview with the media.
"It is an incomparable enjoyment and joy to work with a talented and great director like Duke Rosenberg for the soundtrack of the Batman trilogy. It is also a great honor for me. He is the kind of wise director who is willing to listen to others' opinions and welcomes all kinds of observations."
Charles Rowan, as producer, added, "We all want to be shocked and surprised, but it is our pursuit to have a strong resonance with the audience. No matter how grand the production scene is, what Duke is most concerned about is the story itself and the inextricable causal relationship between the trilogy. As long as we understand his two previous films, everyone can understand his good intentions."
At the same time, the important props in the film, Batman's new car, has also been made.
Technology is a long way to go, and Batman, a hero who relies on cheats, must keep pace with the times. His car evolved from the "tank" in "The Moment of War" to the dual-drive motorcycle in "The Dark Knight". In "The Dark Knight Rises", the old model of Batmobile can no longer attract the attention of the audience, so the Bat fighter came into being.
This big guy who can run at high speed and soar in the sky looks very much like a combination of Autobots and Decepticons. Following Duke's "model special effects" concept, the crew created a model of this high-tech vehicle at a ratio of 1:1. Through real street shooting and necessary computer modifications, it presents the thrilling pursuit in the film.
Of course, compared to "Transformers", the film's near-realistic style does not allow Duke to play transportation as exaggerated and fancy, but the performance of the Bat fighter in the setting is still not to be underestimated. It can have super first-class low-altitude flight capabilities like the Harrier fighter. It can easily be competent in both speed chases close to the ground or the sky fighting that climbs at a rapid speed.
During his busy work, Duke also cared about the situation of "Super Battleship". This adapted film that Sky Film Studio collaborated with Walt Disney is not as popular as other Hasbro toy movies.
The production cost of this film is as high as US$210,000. It sold only $250,000 in the first week of its release in North America in early July. It was forced to be offline by theaters in just 11 weeks after it was released, and it earned less than US$60 million in North America. The global box office has not yet exceeded US$200 million.
The best time toys sold in the film, but the success of "Transformers" has given Hasbro enough confidence. Sky Movie Studio and Walt Disney can only share a very small share of toy sales, and are destined to be unable to recover the huge investment.
At the end of August, Dwayne Johnson officially joined the crew, but Duke was not very satisfied with his body shape. (To be continued.)
ps: The Chinese New Year is coming soon. According to family requirements, we have to go back to our hometown together. Starting from February, we have to adjust to two updates or one update, and the book is about to end. I am thinking about how to end it. It may be a little slower. I guess this book will not take long to say goodbye to everyone. Thank you for your continued support.
