Chapter 68 Closed Loop
After deciding to submit "Death of a Widow" to "Harvest", Yu Dong did not start writing immediately, but started writing another novel.
It is a short science fiction novel prepared for Tan Kai, called Closed Loop.
This is a short story he adapted after watching the two movies "Dike" and "12 Monkeys". It only has a total of just over 10,000 words.
In fact, the adaptation is a kind of Chineseization. After watching "12 Monkeys" at that time, he thought the movie was very good, but he did not agree with some of the cultural expressions and details, so he changed these things.
When people watch a movie and see something they don't like, they can complain at most, but Yu Dong doesn't. He has to spend time changing it because he is bored anyway.
It can also be regarded as the fun you find when you are sick.
The basic setting of "Closed Loop" is the same as that of "Twelve Monkeys". In 1992, humans died on a large scale due to a man-made virus. The few remaining humans went underground and built underground fortresses in order to survive.
After decades of development, in 2030, scientists invented a crude time machine.
They want to use a time machine to send certain people back to before the spread of the virus to find out the reasons for the spread of the virus. It is best to prevent the spread of the virus or find the original virus information.
If they cannot stop it and find the original virus data, even if they cannot change the past, scientists can find a solution to the virus based on the original samples and return to the ground.
However, this time machine has many problems, and it has extremely high requirements on the driver's brain wave frequency.
Scientists found many people to try, and finally found some schizophrenia patients, including the protagonist Lu Tao.
Lu Tao was mentally stimulated and suffered from schizophrenia because he saw someone shot and died in front of him at close range when he was a child. He is usually normal, but occasionally experiences hallucinations.
When they found these people, the scientists were very worried. After all, they were not normal people and might not be able to complete the task. However, after many tests, the scientists still screened out those who could complete the task from these schizophrenia patients. Naturally, Lu Tao
It's in it.
Lu Tao traveled through time for the first time and was sent to 1989, but was imprisoned in the police station because he was naked. Later, he was transferred because he always claimed that he came from the future and that in a few years the world would be invaded by viruses and mankind would be almost extinct.
We arrived at a sanatorium, which is also a mental hospital.
Due to backward communication and restricted movement, Lu Tao was unable to complete the tasks assigned to him by the scientists and could only stay in a sanatorium.
Here he met two more important people, one was the patient Yuan Di and the other was the doctor Guan He.
Yuan Di has delusions and is unstable every day. Because Lu Tao said that he comes from the future, Yuan Di is very interested in him and often plays with him.
Once when Lu Tao was watching TV, he saw a documentary on animal extinction and muttered: It would be better if people died.
Yuan Di strongly agreed with this.
Later, Lu Tao was brought back to the future by scientists, and then they asked him about the specific situation. The scientists were disappointed to learn that he was sent to the wrong era.
During the second time travel, Lu Tao was sent to the right time. This time he met Guan He again, because Lu Tao disappeared out of thin air when he was in the sanatorium, and Guan He had been looking for him in the past few years.
Guan He listened to Lu Tao's description of the future. Although he didn't completely believe it, he decided to go looking for clues with Lu Tao.
The two found the residence of biologist Yuan Feng, where he met Yuan Di, who turned out to be Yuan Feng's son. Although Lu Tao was surprised, he didn't think much about it, and even asked Yuan Di to help him pay attention to who would steal.
Yuan Feng's virus sample, if you have any information, tell him.
But later Lu Tao and Guan He discovered that Yuan Di was the one who stole the sample. It turned out that Yuan Di had heard Lu Tao say that he wanted to eliminate human beings. He had kept this incident in mind and made a plan for it, preparing to steal his father's virus sample.
, and then released.
After learning everything, Lu Tao prepared to stop Yuan Di, but was killed by Guan He when he was about to catch Yuan Di.
Guan He is an infectious disease doctor, but he is not reused. He hopes to make the world aware of the power of the virus, so that he can be admired by the world.
The reason why he has been following Lu Tao is because he is afraid that Lu Tao will change history.
In the last scene of the novel, a little boy stood at the entrance of the alley, witnessing everything that happened in the alley. He was the young Lu Tao.
…
Although "Closed Loop" uses the framework of "12 Monkeys", its answer to time is very different. In "12 Monkeys", the protagonist actually changed history. Originally, the virus was supposed to be the son of a virologist.
It was spread because the son did not succeed due to the appearance of the protagonist.
But the final outcome has not changed, except that the person who spread the virus has changed from the son of a virologist to an assistant.
However, this is not the case in "Closed Loop". In this story, everything in the past is unchangeable, or everything is a written script. Time is a closed loop, just like a film that has been shot and plays in a loop.
In the closed-loop theory of time, time is a circle. Since it is a circle, there is no distinction between before and after.
"You think you are changing history, but in fact you are just repeating history."
"The past and the future already existed and were frozen."
Yu Dong also changed the love scene. Americans have a problem with making movies. Love scenes must be included in all films. Even if the love scenes are poorly laid out, the male and female protagonists will end up together.
There are also scenes of scientists. In the movie "12 Monkeys", the scientists don't want to save mankind at all. The reason why they send the protagonist back is to ensure that the virus can spread, so that they, the scientists, can be respected by the world and gain great rights.
However, Yu Dong thinks this is somewhat illogical, because if scientists really do this, there is no need to build a time machine and send people back. This will instead create the risk that history will change for no reason.
This chapter is not finished yet, please click on the next page to continue reading the exciting content! If they want to ensure the formation of a closed loop, that is not right, because the plot in the movie indicates that the closed loop can be changed and they need to take care to protect it.
If the closed loop cannot be broken, they will have no motive to send people back. Anyway, things have happened and cannot be changed.
Maybe Yu Dong didn't understand it clearly, or maybe there's something wrong with the logic of this part of the movie.
Anyway, Yu Dong changed these plots and made a short story.
…
After working overtime, Yu Dong wrote "Closed Loop" in one night. He planned to find time to copy the manuscript tomorrow and send it along with the reply letter to Tan Kai.
The next day was Saturday. Yu Dong fell asleep and woke up naturally. When he got up, he found that it was already past ten o'clock.
I got up and picked up the washbasin from the noodle stand, opened the door and went out to get some water to wash up, but I found something squatting outside the door.
"Ouch!"
Yu Dong admitted that he was startled. At first glance, he only saw something next to the door. After taking a step back, he saw clearly that it was a squatting person.
When the man heard the noise, he looked up at Yu Dong and smiled: "Teacher Yu, you're up."
Only then did Yu Dong see the appearance of this man, and it turned out to be Ruan Xiaohu.
He was about to ask Ruan Xiaohu why he was here, but then he thought, wasn't he the one who invited him before?
"How long have you been here?" Yu Dong asked.
Ruan Xiaohu shook his head, "I just arrived too."
As he said this, he was about to get up, but his legs felt numb and he held on to the window edge with a painful expression.
Yu Dong smiled and said: "He also said that when he arrived, his legs were numb from squatting. You go in and sit for a while. I will wash up and come over."
