Chapter 20 Plague Vaccines

Before the things were packed, two men in black who were on the periphery suddenly dragged a ragged man into the camp.

"Miss, we found a coma survivor outside...a native in the quarantine."

"The unconscious survivor?" Margaret and Ashes immediately surrounded him. The guy who was thrown to the ground was a middle-aged man in his forties, wearing a patched linen shirt and an extremely worn leather vest. The belt on his waist with some simple homemade weapons had been pulled down by the man in black and threw it aside.

The survivor breathed very faintly, and he exuded a disgusting smell of corruption… The smell was extremely rich and could even pass through the filter layer of the bird's beak mask and drill into the ashes their nostrils.

People living in isolation areas have poor hygiene conditions. It is often difficult to clean their bodies once a month or two. It is normal to have a odor, but the smell on the person in front of you is really too heavy... Moreover, the smell is obviously different from the smell emitted by not taking a bath for too long.

"Take off his clothes!" Margaret ordered with a cold face.

A man in black immediately drew out his short sword and cut the survivor's clothes with the sharp tip.

When the survivor's upper body was exposed to everyone's sight, a low cry suddenly sounded, and the man in black holding a short sword jumped back as if he was stung by a bee.

The survivor had a large amount of herpes on his abdomen and back. Through the surface of the herpes, he could vaguely seeped with a mixture of blood and pus. The edges of the herpes were still bleeding, and the surrounding skin showed obvious signs of ulceration.

And that disgusting smell comes from these places.

"It's a plague!" Ash whispered, "He was infected with the plague."

"Hurry up! Burn this person! Don't let the plague spread!" Edward shouted nervously. The black fog is still about ten kilometers away from the central market, but there are plague-infected people in this place, which is undoubtedly extremely bad news.

It does not mean that you must be covered by the plague fog to get infected with the plague. In fact, the spread of the plague is far beyond the range of the plague fog visible to the naked eye. It seems that it is still a distance away from the plague fog, but in fact, the air around you has long been filled with plague viruses.

Every infected person of a plague can be regarded as a pathogen. Only by completely burning the pathogen can the spread of the virus be blocked.

At this moment, Ash suddenly stood up and stopped the man in black who was planning to drag the infected person away.

"Wait a minute, this person is useful!"

After saying that, he squatted down next to the infected person, took out a blade, carefully cut a piece of herpes on the back of the man in black, and picked out some of the pus and blood inside with the tip of the knife.

"Give me a bag of water and enough antibiotics." Ashes raised his head and said to Margaret.

"What are you going to do? Antibiotics are useless to the plague virus! Don't you even know this?" Edward said to Ash with some anger. The only thing he wanted to do now was to throw the infected person into the burning pit and then get the further away from this ghost place, the better.

"Mr. Edward, we cannot escape the plague with our legs alone. Maybe now there is a plague virus floating in the air we breathe."

"Then you cut the pussy on this guy's back! Are you planning to kill everyone here?" Edward's anger turned into anger. If the ashes hadn't squatted beside the infected person, he would have rushed forward and kicked him over to the ground.

"Since I can't run away, I can only try to resist... Repeat again, I need water purification and a lot of antibiotics." Ashes was holding the blade's hand very steadily, and the blade held the drop of pus and blood the size of a soybean like a slide.

"Are you planning to make a vaccine?" Margaret guessed the purpose of the ashes, but she also had no clue about this boy who was only in her teenage years old.

Vaccines... are indeed a powerful tool for humans to fight plague, but the development of vaccines is not that simple. In history, those vaccines that can help humans resist plagues were developed after investing a lot of manpower and material resources in the Imperial Epidemic Prevention Department and Medical College... What's more, different plagues require completely different vaccines. Even if this boy learned how to make vaccines from some books, that kind of vaccine may not be suitable for the plague in front of him.

"Making a vaccine? Do you think making a vaccine is as simple as making a cup of black tea? If you don't want me to kill you, throw away the things in your hand and drag the damn guy into the burning pit to burn it!" Edward had already pulled out the short gun at the waist and pointed it at the head of Ashes.

"There is a proverb from the East, which is called 'Treat a dead horse as a living Malay doctor'... Maybe, we should give him a chance to try it." Margaret reached out and pressed down Edward's short gun. With a look, a man in black immediately took a water bag and a medicine box to the ashes.

"I need another cup, preferably a transparent glass," said Ash.

...

After the props were complete, the ashes dripped the drop of pus and blood into the glass. After adding half a cup of water, they opened the medicine box and poured out the capsules inside.

After disassembling the capsule, Ash poured all the white powder inside the capsule into the water cup.

This antibiotic is actually an extract of mold. It can kill most viruses and bacteria, including colds and tetanus, and is a common medicine in the army. Although the effect of antibiotics is extremely unsatisfactory for plague viruses with strong vitality, to a certain extent, antibiotics can still weaken the activity of plague viruses.

The two most common vaccines are "live attenuated vaccines" and "inactivated vaccines". To make these two vaccines, the raw materials required are "weakened viruses" after special treatment.

The reason why antibiotics have no effect on plague-infected people is because the dosage of drugs is too small for the number of viruses. A very famous doctor once made a calculation in the Imperial Medical Journal that if you want to use antibiotics to cure a Black Death patient, the dosage of drugs will probably reach about one to one or two times the patient's own weight... Not to mention how to get patients to take so many antibiotics, the toxicity of the antibiotic itself alone is enough to make the patient die due to organ failure.

But compared with the number of viruses contained in the body of plague patients, the number of viruses in this drop of pus and blood is much smaller. Even if antibiotics are one-on-one, they cannot beat the plague virus. What about a hundred to one? Or a thousand to one?

Soon, the turbid mixture changed, and some white precipitates appeared at the bottom of the cup, while the upper layer of clear liquid showed a strange light yellow color.
