Chapter 90, The Turning Point
Vienna
After passing the actual combat test of the new rifle at the Hallstad Factory, it was included in the Austrian army's alternative list and was named the Steyron Type 1852 rifle.
This seems to be a habit for Europeans, and designers always like to name weapons designed after their own names.
These are all small questions. Franz is not interested in finding the bottom line. Entering the military's alternative equipment list does not mean that he can be equipped on a large scale.
The breech rifle has been around for more than 30 years. It was originally the American Hall 1819. Unfortunately, the bullets will fly left after 457 meters.
Then there was the Dresses in Prussia 1841. The Prussian army had begun to be equipped, but many generals opposed it. Obviously, his performance had not yet conquered the masses.
This rifle shines in 1864's Pudan War and the Pudan War. Of course, its advantage over the borehole gun is not as magical as later generations boast.
This can be seen from the fact that the Prussian army did not have a full assembly.
Although the rate of fire is four or five times that of the bore gun, its firing needle is easily damaged. In the initial industrial production of 1841, some people laughed at the fact that there is no spare pointer, so they should not go to the battlefield.
The breeze often leaks, and the leaked gas can easily interfere with the shooting, and in severe cases it can burn the skin. If you are not lucky, you may blind the gunman's eyes.
The production technology was improved later, and the performance gradually stabilized. Dresse 1841 began to shine.
Franz has also come into contact with many similar rifles. Many rifles have excellent performance in laboratories and will not work once large-scale industrial production.
Either the cost is too high or the performance is reduced. This is not a nuclear weapon, so Franz naturally has to consider the cost; sacrificing performance is even more undesirable. Is it necessary to install a rifle without performance advantages?
Until the Steyron 1852 was released, it was similar to the historical Charsébo rifle in terms of performance, except that the effective range was a little closer.
These are all small problems. It is enough to ensure an effective range of 650 meters. At the far end, it is not enough to hit more than 1,500 meters. It is also possible to scare people from a long distance.
Franz has always believed that in actual combat, those who can accurately hit the enemy within 150 meters are excellent soldiers, and they should fight further away based on their feelings!
"Marson Marshal, what do you think of this rifle? Do we need to change our clothes?" Franz asked
Marshal Radsky replied with a smile, "Your Majesty, the data collected is quite effective and has large-scale equipment value.
However, the price of this rifle arsenal is 30% higher than that of an ordinary rifle, and the ammunition consumption may be two or three times higher."
Obviously, Marshal Radsky is experienced and does not expect this rifle to be able to shoot theoretically on the battlefield.
