Chapter 92 Northern Expedition to Washington

A team of cavalry carried the Southern Cross flags symbolizing 11 states of the Alliance. Jackson, the Stone Wall General of the Southern Army, rode a war horse and led 15,000 Southern Army soldiers as vanguards across the Niu River and began to advance towards Washington.

Chu Qi, wearing the costume of a captain of the Southern Army artillery, advanced with Jackson's headquarters.

As a representative sent by his allies here, he participated in this massive Northern Expedition.

The United States took the lead in launching an offensive. After being repelled by Boregard, Jackson and others, it was the Allies' turn to use morale to fight against Washington.

The war seemed to be smoother than Chu Qi imagined. The Southern Army flag was victorious, and the people of Washington were in panic.

Chu Qi, who was in the Southern Army, couldn't help but have an illusion that the war would soon end, and the Union would soon force the United States to recognize their independence.

However, the information provided by the spy installed in Washington kept Chu Qi rational.

The Battle of Manassas only slapped the spirit of the Northern Army. The Northern Army suffered not much loss, with less than 3,000 casualties. There were estimated 80,000 militia gathered in Washington everywhere, which was twice as many as those of the Southern Army.

Chu Qi could have stayed in Richmond to handle affairs, but in order to use the intelligence faster, he made a dangerous decision, and he followed Jackson in Stonewall to operate.

Manassas was not far from Washington. Jackson led 15,000 people across the Bikini River. He groped forward cautiously, and the march was very slow, and camped in the nearby woods.

Chu Qi was quite puzzled by this, but Jackson quickly responded to him: "We are ambushing here."

Chu Qi and his team surrounded a temporary wooden table, benches and tablecloths. They enjoyed the treatment of officers in the Southern Army, and specialized people prepared their meals, canned meat, butter, sweet cakes, etc.

The ordinary soldiers of the Southern Army around them were suffering. They held tinplate meals, received rations from the quarantine officers, and had to make fires and cook rice by themselves, living in tents supported by muskets.

Compared with the United States with developed industrial conditions, the Alliance countries, mainly plantations, are more scarce, and their food is much worse than that of the Northern Army. One meal or two is OK. If the meals are all foods that have no taste, Iron Man will probably collapse.

However, Chu Qi found that Jackson's Virginia soldiers were highly motivated, and in their opinion, defending Virginia's state power was more important than anything else.

General Jackson of Stonewall was famous for the Battle of Manassas and was successfully portrayed as a hero. The worship of heroes by soldiers at the bottom made them believe that following the heroes can win.

But they didn't know that one general succeeded and thousands of bones were woven.

As a faction that must remain rational, Chu Qi was not infected by the emotions of these Virginia soldiers.

Feng Yuruo was also wearing military uniforms and sitting on a stool for dining, and found Chu Qi in a daze: "What are you thinking?"

"I was wondering if it was time to write a letter from my family and ask someone to send it back to the Ming Dynasty. The battle of the Civil War was more tragic than I thought. Five thousand people were killed or injured in one battle of Manassas. If something unfortunately happened..."

Chu Qi thought that before leaving, Zhang Zhier asked him to send at least two letters back every six months.

He came to work in North America and thought the pace would be slow, but the independence of South Carolina caused the Civil War to break out as planned. Chu Qi suddenly came to the Virginia front line and has not sent even a letter back to this day.

"It's only two or three days away from Washington, but I think it's difficult for the Southern Army to capture Washington. According to the information you provided, Washington has a total of 80,000 people, and with various fortifications, it's almost impossible for the Southern Army to capture Washington with 45,000 troops. Furthermore, on the surface, it's about to capture a city in Washington, but in fact, the Southern Army has to face the entire Northern Federation. The railway can continuously transport troops and other sources of material resources to Washington, and Washington's troops may reach more than 100,000 at any time." Feng Yuruo was not very interested in Chu Qi's letter, but talked about strategies and tactics to him.

"So this Northern Expedition is likely to just put pressure on Washington to force them to recognize the legitimate status of the Alliance. So how do you think it should be possible to conquer Washington?" Chu Qi asked.

"We can send troops to cut off towns near Washington one by one and cut off their ties with other states in the Northern Federal State, and we may conquer them." Feng Yuruo said for granted.

Chu Qi carefully recalled the location of Washington on the map, and it seemed that what Feng Yuruo said was somewhat reasonable.

"This is our Southern Army's attempt to let Washington know our determination."

Jackson walked over with a cup of coffee. Chu Qizhen was worried that his beard would fall into the coffee cup: "Our Southern Army has limited supplies, especially when marching, it is even harder. I hope you don't care."

"It's okay." Chu Qi and Feng Yuruo were both people from military institutions. They were not very picky about food. Besides, the food of the officers was relatively good.

"The members of the Northern Federation always threaten us with war. I hope that the Battle of Manassas will have learned our anger and let them understand that war is not a joke," Jackson said.

"General Jackson, are you planning to cut off the Northern Army in half? You know that we will be surrounded by the Northern Army in this way, and we may suffer heavy losses." Feng Yuruo looked at Jackson.

"My troops are originally a bait," Jackson replied. "Everyone present is in danger of life. General Feng, will you give you two regiments this time and become the 'Joan of Arc' of the Alliance again?"

Feng Yuruo shook his head straight: "I can't take this responsibility."

Jackson really has the power to dispatch troops.

He was famous in the Battle of Manassas. Jackson now temporarily controlled 15,000 people and had several brigades under his command. He also assigned some of the troops to command Feng Yuruo.

However, after a real battle, Feng Yuruo became much more calm and did not volunteer again. She also studied in the war.

When Jackson's 15,000 people were resting in the woods for a day, Chu Qi received information from Washington. Lincoln appointed John Pope, who was also from West Point Military Academy, to replace McDowell as commander-in-chief of Washington, and hastily led 80,000 people to quickly move south to fight the Southern Army's Northern Expedition.

Although it is safe to set up defenses in Washington, if troops are at the gates, the anti-war wave in Washington will rise sharply, and Lincoln may also ask for peace.

In the eyes of Lincoln and others, it was very urgent to block the Southern Army from Washington.

Chu Qi informed Jackson of the news as soon as possible.
