Chapter 24 Building Bridges and Roads Correctly

Lu Xiangsheng and Sun Chuanting led the Ming army from the east and south to join forces with Tsarist Russia's No. 21 bastion. The Russian defenders surrendered under the pressure of a million troops. The battle in Siberia came to an end. The Ming army completed its strategic goal nearly two months ahead of schedule. The next step was to organize defense and build a railway.

To this end, Lu Xiangsheng and Sun Chuanting found a clean and tidy room in the basin, put a large table on it, and spread the map of the Siberian plain on the table to discuss it.

The defense problem along the railway is not very big, because there are eight bastions built by Tsarist Russia along the way. Lu Xiangsheng and Sun Chuanting, together, built a sub-city that could station tens of thousands of people outside the bastion, built a sub-city in the railway station, and then divided the Third Border Army Corps, stationing more than 10,000 people in each bastion.

Sun Chuanting led the Qin army, the First Border Defense Army and the Second Border Defense Army, first protected the vassal state corps to repair the railway, and then returned to Rem City to station.

In this way, no matter which bastion Tsarist Russia attacked, with the rapid telegram communication method and the fast transportation ability of railway lines, Sun Chuanting would soon lead his army to arrive. Even if Tsarist Russia came out in full swing, he would not have the desire to retake these eight bastions.

The eight bastions are only more than 200 miles apart. As long as the eight bastions are not lost, the Ming army can use the bastion as a stronghold to spread the reconnaissance cavalry along the entire railway to prevent Tsarist Russia from sending people to destroy the railway. In this way, the entire railway will be safe.

There is no problem with the defense along the railway, but there is a slight deviation in the construction of this railway, because according to Lu Xiangsheng and Sun Chuanting's calculations, it will take about half a month to build the railway from the No. 21 Bulletin to the main trunk of Yeni River. Then, it will take about one month to build a bridge on the Yeni River, and then from the main trunk of Yeni River to the opposite bank of Tungus City. Finally, a bridge on the Tungus River will be built to connect the Western Regions Railway and the Siberian Railway.

After all, the Western Regions Railway and the Siberian Railway will not be connected until the ice period this year. They guessed that the emperor should have missed the time for the bridge construction!

It would be a small matter for the emperor to miss a little time, but if Sun Chuanting did not connect the Western Regions Railway and the Siberian Railway before the ice age this year, it would be a big matter. They also knew that it took time and effort to transfer materials from Liaodong to Siberia, which brought huge pressure to the entire Ming Dynasty's railway transportation. The two hundred trains delayed on the road alone would not know how much damage it would cause to the Ming Dynasty. Even if the railway was not built this year, it would be very likely to affect the strategic deployment in the coming year. Sun Chuanting could not afford this responsibility, and Lu Xiangsheng could not afford it.

What should I do? Finally, Lu Xiangsheng and Sun Chuanting had to bite the bullet and jointly print a telegram to the capital. One reported good news to the emperor, eight bastions had been taken in advance, and the other asked the emperor, would someone be sent to repair the bridges above the Yeni River and the Tungus River?

On that day, Zhu Cijing was accompanying his eldest son Zhu Heyi to tease foodies in Kunning Palace, but Wang Chengen suddenly ran over, held a telegram with his hands, and knelt on the ground and said with a sharp voice: "Report to the emperor, Siberian frontline urgently."

Didn’t I hear that the progress there was quite smooth a few days ago? Why did I report it again now?

Things on the front line cannot be delayed, so Zhu Cijiu immediately left his son and took the telegram to look carefully.

The first half of the message is that the Ming army on the east and Ming army on the south and the Ming army on the south and the Ming army on the east and south have successfully captured eight bastions. Lu Xiangsheng and Sun Chuanting have already met successfully at the No. 21 Bastion of Tsarist Russia. Seeing this, Zhu Cijing couldn't help but be overjoyed and said: "Okay......"

But he was still not halfway, but he suddenly choked because the second half of the message asked him to send someone to build the bridge above the Yeni River and the Tungus River.

He was so embarrassed. When he was planning on the map, he didn't expect the problem of building a bridge. Yeni River and Tonggus River are not small rivers. It would be impossible to build a bridge without a month. In this way, Sun Chuanting would take at least three months to build the Western Regions Railway and the Siberian Railway. He actually only left him one month. Is this life worthless?

Fortunately, they built eight bastions in advance, otherwise it would be a bit difficult to combine the Western Regions Railway and the Siberian Railway this year.

Thinking of this, he said to Wang Chengen, who was kneeling there waiting for instructions: "Return the call and asked Sun Chuanting to divide the vassal state legion into two, and build the railway from the No. 21 Bastion to the main trunk of Yeni River and the main trunk of Yeni River to Tungus City, and then tell him that I will ask someone to repair the two bridges within two months."

Wang Chengen took the order and left. Zhu Cijing thought for a while, walked directly to the door, and said to Cao Huachun who was standing there: "I asked someone to notify the Minister of Works Bi Maokang to come to the study room of the Qianqing Palace."

After saying that, he raised his foot and walked towards the Qianqing Palace. Cao Huachun winked at a small eunuch next to him, and then followed Zhu Cijiong to the Qianqing Palace.

In recent years, I don’t know how many railways have been built in the Ming Dynasty, and I often have to pass through some big rivers. I naturally have a good understanding of building railway bridges. Zhu Cijiu brought Bi Maokang with a plan and quickly decided on the bridge construction plan.

After Bi Maokang returned, he immediately organized officials from the Ministry of Works, including the head of the Dushuiqing Office, to hold a meeting to arrange the construction of the two bridges.

He directly divided the relevant officials of the Dushui Qingli Office into two waves. One wave brought relevant bridge experts to make the piers, prepared the required materials and set off immediately to the Yeni River and Tungus River to set up the piers; the other wave brought relevant bridge experts to the bridge tray and the bridge deck, first cooperated with the Royal Machinery Group of the Ming Dynasty to prepare the bridge materials and then transport the Yeni River and Tungus River to the unified transportation.

Because Zhu Cijiu attaches great importance to technology, the officials of the Ministry of Works are all first-class and capable, and their efficiency is simply terrifying.

The next day, the official responsible for the bridge pier had prepared cement, steel bars and other materials and transported them directly to Dongdaying, loading all the materials onto the fleet of the Ming Dynasty Royal Shipping Company responsible for the transfer of materials, and then rushed to the Yeni River and Tungus River to set up the bridge pier.

The officials in charge of the bridge tray and the bridge deck brought relevant bridge experts directly to the steel plant of the Daming Royal Machinery Group in Beijing on the same day. With the cooperation of relevant personnel from the steel plant, they kept making bridge materials day and night.

Half a month later, all the bridge materials were prepared. They also transported all the materials directly to Dongdaying, loaded them with the fleet of the Royal Marine Company of the Ming Dynasty, which was responsible for transporting the materials, and then rushed to Yeni River and Tungus River with the ship.
