Chapter 106: The Battle of the Bridgehead (2)

Chapter 106: Battle of Bridgehead (2)

Chapter 106: Battle of Bridgehead (2)

The first thing I could find was the black and long gun barrel of the Vietnamese tank. Perhaps because I was worried that the gun barrel would be damaged against another tank, the Vietnamese tank hand tilted the turret at an angle, which gave me a rare opportunity to observe the gun barrel of an enemy tank at such a close distance during combat.

Without rifling, I discovered the difference between the Vietnamese tank at first sight - the inner wall of this tank's gun barrel was very smooth and there was no rifling that our tanks and other tanks should have. So I quickly realized that this tank was equipped with smoothbore guns, which meant that this was a relatively advanced tank.

It should be said that rifled guns are more complex and advanced than smoothbore guns. The shells fired by rifled guns will rotate at high speed due to rifling, thereby increasing the accuracy of their hit targets. Moreover, it is also a very complicated process to make rifled lines in the barrel. It is precisely for this reason that most early tank guns were rifled guns. For example, during the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, most tanks directly installed rifled anti-aircraft guns on tanks.

However, as tanks become more and more widely used on the battlefield, military strategists gradually realized that tanks are often used to deal with enemy tanks at close range. Therefore, the most important thing about tank guns is not firing accuracy, but armor-piercing ability.

So the difference came out...

Although the shooting accuracy of the shells fired by the rifled gun is high, the shells will consume a considerable part of the kinetic energy when they rotate at high speed. When the projectile invades enemy tank armor, it will also disperse metal jets due to rotation, which makes its armor-piercing effect not good.

On the contrary, although the shooting accuracy of the smoothbore gun is relatively poor, it releases almost all the kinetic energy on the armor of enemy tanks, and the armor-piercing effect is much better than that of the rifled gun.

It is precisely for this reason that the United States and the Soviet Union, which are at the forefront of science and technology, have equipped smoothbore guns on tanks to improve their armor-piercing effect. So as soon as I saw that the tank in front of me was equipped with smoothbore guns, I knew that this guy was a "fashionable" thing in this era.

So I was thinking that a guy like this, a 100mm rifled gun in 59 may not be able to penetrate the armor piercing of his turret from the front.

Thinking of this, I immediately waved to several bazooka shooters, and soon four soldiers ran up with their two bazooka on their backs and prepared to shoot.

Facts have proved that my concerns are necessary. This tank driven up is a Su-style T62 tank, which can almost be said to be the most advanced tank currently equipped by the Vietnamese army. The armor thickness on the front of its turret is 220mm, and it also has an arc shape. This shape can not only increase the difficulty of breaking down the enemy shells, but also have a certain bounce effect on the shells.

At this time... Battalion Commander Wu's tank was too close to the enemy tank, and the gun barrel was aimed straight at the front turret of the Vietnamese tank, which was the thickest part of the enemy tank's armor.

With a "boom", Battalion Commander Wu's tank fired, but the shell only caused the Vietnamese tank to shake violently. Then the t62 was still driving forward in the surprised eyes of the soldiers.

As the tank was about to drive out of the bridgehead, more and more enemies rushed to the bridgehead under the cover of this tank, and as they were about to break through our defense like a flood that broke the dike... Two rockets roared to the big guy in front of the Vietnamese army...

"Boom" two loud noises. After the tank continued to advance a few meters in the smoke, it was unable to move because of the crack. The Vietnamese army's advancement was once again blocked within the bridgehead by us.

However, the Vietnamese army seemed to have not given up and sent a few people to launch a charge from the gaps in the tanks. However, this effort was obviously meaningless. The Vietnamese army had just emerged and were knocked to the ground by our machine guns. Not long after, the Vietnamese army retreated along the bridge like a t34 under the cover of a t34.

We would not let them go so easily. We bite their tails and chased them with machine guns, rocket launchers and mortars all the way. Zhu Jixing even took the opportunity to call for artillery fire support from the rear. He saw a burst of artillery fire covering it, which made the Vietnamese troops fly into the air in pieces. Occasionally, some tanks happened to be hit by shells and were immediately blown upside down. The rest were also in a mess and looked for places to avoid shells.

"Brother Artillery is fighting well!"

“Beautiful fight!”

...

Seeing the Vietnamese army running away by our artillery fire, the soldiers shouted for the artillery.

Captain Wu opened the hatch and jumped off the tank. He stared blankly at the tank whose tracks were broken and unable to move and said with lingering fear: "Good guy! He shot his head at such a close distance without any movement..."

The soldiers would not care about what kind of tank it was. Several people climbed up and knocked it at the tank hatch with the buttstock a few times, and shouted loudly inside:

"Nuokongsong Page!"

"Ri'arei (out)!"

...

The soldiers knocked and beat for a while and there was no movement. Originally, I thought the Vietnamese army inside were either shocked or died or surrendered. I was about to let the soldiers go away and blow up the tank. But at this moment, the tank hatch opened a crack with a "kneel" sound, and a weak voice came from inside: "Comrade PLA! Stop the gun and do not kill, stop kill..."

Hey! I'm still a Chinese-speaking person. He was trembling when he heard him speak. It seemed that the person hiding in the tank was far less powerful than the tank's appearance.

The soldiers lifted the tank hatch and pulled the Vietnamese army out of it. Li Sheng shouted: "Where are there any people? Are they dead or alive?"

"I...I don't know either!" The Vietnamese army wearing a tank cap replied in a panic: "There are three more, I climbed out alone..."

This is completely reasonable. This is the system of the Vietnamese army. If someone wants to surrender to the enemy, other Vietnamese troops can kill them on the spot. I believe that many Vietnamese troops wanted to surrender when they were at a disadvantage on the battlefield, but they were worried that they would not be able to get out of our army at all. So I think if he wasn't the only one who still had consciousness, I'm afraid he wouldn't be able to get out of here.

I was about to send someone in to see if there was any intelligence that could be used, but the Vietnamese army did not give us such a chance. As the sky was roaring with shells, the Vietnamese army began to clear the scene as usual.

A few minutes later, we looked up and looked at the two broken tanks at the bridgehead just now. We had long since turned into a pile of scrap iron and rolled down the bridge.

This may be the purpose of the Vietnamese army's shelling - to clear obstacles for their next attack. Otherwise, they would be busy with cleaning these two tanks for a while.

After the gun smoke from the shelling passed, I raised my telescope again and looked at the opposite river. The Vietnamese army did not launch another attack and the tanks disappeared. There were only a few tank wrecks left on the other side that were bombed and blew flames and black smoke in the north wind. In addition, there were only a dozen Vietnamese female soldiers who raised the wounded and the bodies...

"We are afraid of being beaten by the Japanese devils!" Li Zhifu said proudly: "Look... the only ones who dare to come out are female soldiers! The Japanese devils are even more courageous than women!"

"Isn't that?" Al Ziri came out from somewhere and echoed from the side: "We killed so many tanks by just charging once. If we continue to fight, the Japanese devils will soon be defeated!"

"You still need to worry about the property of the Yue Japanese!" The other soldiers couldn't help but laugh and scolded.

Looking at the soldiers' appearance, I knew that the victory just now made the soldiers much more optimistic. After all, the soldiers also knew that with the advantages of our army's Type 69 rocket launcher and bridgehead, the Vietnamese army could be blocked on the other side of the Qiqiong River. Moreover, our artillery has been suppressing the Vietnamese artillery, and even the Vietnamese Japanese were only rushing for a few minutes. The feeling of this kind of artillery fire was indeed very good.

But I knew that the Vietnamese army was not afraid of us as the soldiers said. I looked up at the getting darker and darker sky, and realized that the Vietnamese army was waiting for darkness...

So I immediately ordered to the soldiers: "Reinforce the fortifications immediately, and the Vietnamese army will likely launch an attack at night!"

"Yes!" The soldiers quickly understood the intentions of the Vietnamese army as they listened to my orders, so they did not dare to neglect them. They immediately waved shovels to the positions that had been messed up by the Vietnamese artillery fire.

"Zhu Jixing!" I shouted into the walkie-talkie.

"Come!" Zhu Jixing responded from a distance, and ran to me quickly with a telescope in his hand covered in dust.

"Did you see the bridgehead opposite?" I pointed to the river and said, "Contact the artillery and let them free up ten cannons to adjust the numbers and aim them at the bridgehead, and complete the test firing before dark. Once you get the order, you will have the firepower to the bridgehead. Do you understand!"

"I understand!" Zhu Jixing responded and rushed back to the other end of the walkie-talkie to contact the artillery unit.

"Battery Commander!" At this time, the correspondent handed the walkie-talkie and said, "The regiment headquarters phone number says there is a new situation!"

"I am Cui Wei!" I grabbed the microphone and revealed my identity.

"Battlefield Commander Cui!" A slightly anxious voice from the chief of staff came from the microphone: "The situation has changed new. Our army's frontal offensive against Lang Shan North District is not going smoothly, and it is difficult to meet with your troops before dark. There are signs that the Vietnamese army is likely to mobilize troops to attack the Qiqiong River Bridge while it is dark, trying to open up the passage for their retreat to the south..."

"What?" I was stunned when I heard this. Isn't this telling us that we have been surrounded by the Yue Japanese? And it was also that the Yue Japanese Japanese were surrounded in the dark...

"So!" The Chief of Staff paused and continued, "In order not to let the Vietnamese army escape, you must be prepared to bomb the bridge. Once there is difficulty in defending the bridge, blow up the bridge and cut off the Vietnamese army's retreat!"

"Yes!" I replied numbly.
