Chapter 24 War in North Africa (2)

The sporadic firefight lasted until dawn on the second day. After a battle with ZAFT, the Silver Wolf Mercenary Group did not pursue the victory. After all, they were mercenaries, and the principle of saving lives first and mission second has not changed since ancient times.

The fierce mercenary group of fierce fighting did not suffer much casualties one night, only the unlucky George was restored to parts with his chariot. The infantry hiding in the trenches were spectators at all, and they released several anti-tank missiles from beginning to end.

But the Earth Army is different. Rhodes estimated that after a night of fierce battle, Alexander's Earth Army was disabled, especially the already sluggish morale, which was not restored after a night of attacks.

I waited until the early morning of the next day, and the person from the United Army contacted the mercenary group. The person came was the young lieutenant who received everyone yesterday. The lieutenant's strict military appearance had long disappeared, and even his military uniform was broken several holes, and his messy hair hung weakly on his head.

"Captain Rod, General Andrew sent me to inform you to discuss." The lieutenant's expression was quite good, or he was not defeated by the cruel battlefield.

"I know." Rhode responded, jumped from GINN's foot position and followed the lieutenant into the jeep.

"Klose, you can command the mercenary group first, it's better to transfer the base." Rod got into the car and explained to his subordinates a few words.

"Understood."

When Klose received the notice, Rod nodded to the lieutenant, who started the car and drove towards the air base.

Perhaps because of the heavy casualties, the lieutenant was not in high spirits, and Rhodes did not want to talk to the young man. Instead, he looked at the tragic scene passing by quickly outside the car thoughtfully.

I saw that the buildings on both sides of the street had already become ruins after a night of fighting. Of course, various mechanical wreckages were indispensable on both sides of the road. As soon as the car entered the air force base, it was even worse. This was the target of ZAFT's key attack. The runway was as rugged as the moon, and the surrounding hangars were burned into a frame structure.

On the south side of the airport runway is intact, there is a wailing sound, needless to say it has been converted into a battlefield hospital.

"It seems that last night was really miserable." Rhodes said to himself.

"At least I survived." The lieutenant driving continued.

"Yes, it's better to survive than anything else." Rhode smiled. This sentence is the most frequent comfort word on the battlefield.

The jeep slowly slowed down and finally stopped in front of the command building that had been destroyed.

"Just here?"

"The officers are hiding in the basement." The lieutenant explained with a pout.

Rhode nodded and said a few more words about good luck in the scene, and then walked quickly into the underground command room.

There are a few fewer senior officers here than yesterday, and the guys sitting here have more or less depressed expressions, which is in sharp contrast to the arrogant momentum of the sky and the ground yesterday. However, this is still the result of a miserable victory. Rhodes really couldn't imagine what kind of expression the people here would have if they had a miserable defeat.

Major General Andrew sat in a luxurious leather chair. As soon as he saw Rhode's fat round face emitting an inexplicable brilliance, he saw the Major General stand up from his seat and said in an excited tone: "Come on, let us welcome Commander Rhode, he witnessed the great scene of the United Army's attack on ZAFT together!!"

The other officers who were still stunned immediately applauded, as if they were awarding a medal ceremony.

Rhode was stunned. Obviously, he had not adjusted from the sharp contrast between the two atmospheres. He had just heard from the lieutenant that Major General Ander Andernov hid in the basement all night and did not show up. Why did he become the winner by himself?

"I have indeed seen the 'great' combat power of the Earth Army. As a natural person, I feel very 'proud'!" No matter what, the scene still needs to be said, so Rhode suppressed the disgusting feeling in his heart and praised him.

The major general accepted everyone's congratulations with satisfaction, but he never talked about the decisive performance of the mercenary group yesterday. However, if he didn't say it, it did not mean that Rhodes would not mention it.

I saw Rhode pondering for a few seconds and said, "Then the losses and spoils we suffered in yesterday's battle, look..."

(This damn businessman) Major General Andrew cursed in his heart, but a smile appeared on his face. The development of technology has reached the present day, and the results of the battlefield can be recorded by instruments. Of course, he could not make any ignorance. So he smiled and said, "Just report the damage to the war, we promise to make up for you, and we will give you all the spoils, but..."

"Then I will congratulate the great victory of the Earth United Army on behalf of the Silver Wolf Mercenary Group. Yesterday's battle really gave us a good lesson." Rhode replied with understanding.

The mercenary group is a businessman, so everything must be measured by profit and money. As for those false reputations, let him go.

"Haha, very good! I didn't expect that the young leader of the Rhodes would know!" Major General Andernov smiled even happier when he saw the opponent's words so well. The huge loss yesterday was nothing compared to a long-awaited victory. Maybe he could improve the first level after this battle.

"However, because the ZAFT army was too strong yesterday, our 33rd Army suffered heavy losses after this battle. In the early morning of this year, the North African Command issued a new order-"

Major General Andrew pointed to the electronic map behind him and said, "I ordered our army to move closer to the Alamean direction to meet the landing ZAFT troops, so I decided to divide the group army into two, the 33rd Independent Chariots and the Silver Wolf Mercenary Group went to Alamean to reinforce, and the rest of the troops stayed with me on Alexander's alert."

"But I asked before that we must have the right to fight." Rhode sneered and replied. He didn't want to be treated as cannon fodder to die on the front battlefield.

Although his skill in controlling MS is already very strong at this moment, on the front battlefield, hundreds of MSs and tanks are mixed together, and even gods will be blown into powder by rain-like shells.

"You come to Alahman and fight as you like. I have already communicated with the North African Command."

"Oh, then we're fine."

Rhodes didn't figure it out, but he knew that there was only one dead end to guard Alexander, and the air base here was destroyed, so it was impossible to return to Central Africa.

"That's it." Major General Andrew's finally showed the demeanor of a senior officer, and waved his big hand in a very exaggerated way.

Rhode came out of the nauseating basement, and the captain of the 33rd Chariot Brigade who came to greet him was an acquaintance, or they had met him the day before yesterday.

Colonel Baker Kettle, this professional officer with high quality finally gave Rhodes some confidence.

"I said we'll meet." Keitel and Rhode shook hands.

"I didn't expect you to take over a chariot brigade so soon." Rhode was a little surprised. It seemed that the strong man in front of him felt impatient about the battlefield.

"I can only say that my ex is too unlucky." Keitel said with disdain: "That guy ran away from the chariot, but who knew that halfway was crushed into meat pie by a collapsed wall."

"Then is this considered a death?" Rhode quipped.

"Haha, who knows? It should be considered a glorious death." Kettle and Rhodes looked at each other and laughed loudly. This kind of death was too far-fetched.

"Then we will set off on time at 12 noon."

"No problem, welcome back to the battlefield, my friend." Rhode smiled and respected the officer who was 20 years older than him. Both of them were essentially war animals, and they had a kind of resonance invisibly.
