Chapter 4 The British are in a hurry

The Indian army in Fiji did not have a unified military uniform or logo. They wore the same clothes as local indigenous civilians. Many defeated Indian soldiers hid in their residences and pretended to be civilians to shoot cold guns at the Tang army, causing casualties among the Tang army officers and soldiers.

This immediately angered the Tang army officers and soldiers. Because they could not distinguish between the enemy's army or civilians, they implemented a policy of ethnic cleansing, and they would kill them regardless of whether they were Indian soldiers or civilians.

In order to cover up the truth of the incident, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Tang Empire either claimed that the whole village was an enemy army or that it was Latu's people who did it, and then accused those people of being the murderers of the Chinese. Anyway, the Tang army sent troops at the request of Chief Latu, and in the end, all the responsibility was borne by Latu.

The Tang army blamed the responsibility for massacre of the Indians to Chief Latu, the leader of the Fei tribe. Latu not only did not refute this, but instead liked the Tang army's approach very much.

In the view of Chief Latu, the Tang army undoubtedly helped him a lot. Because since ancient times, Fiji has been a confrontation between the two biggest racial racial Fiji and the Indians. After the British colonized Fiji, they obviously protected the Indians more and used the Indians to fight against the Fiji.

Latule saw the Tang army massacre the Yin people, so he took all the responsibility, thinking that he would be the great hero of the Fei people in this way, but unexpectedly, his own ignorance and blind arrogance eventually led to the British authorities sending all the anger at him.

The Tang army launched a powerful military operation in Fiji. Due to the huge strength gap between the two sides, the Tang army, with the help of the powerful naval and air force, destroyed the Indian army's Indian army in just one week. The Tang army's bombers destroyed the Indian tribe and other Filipino tribes that resisted Latu, causing more than 100,000 Indian casualties and homelessness.

Latu and his army followed the Tang army to occupy the hostile tribes. They publicly slaughtered the Indians and created one unmanned tribe after another.

Latu's behavior immediately covered up some of the Tang army's crimes against civilians. British public opinion immediately pointed the finger at Latu and his Fei army, accusing them of being the executioners who massacred civilians, while the Tang army became accomplices.

The British authorities were very dissatisfied with the Tang army's intervention in the Fiji War. The British government sent a note to the Tang Dynasty Commissioner in the UK for three consecutive days and expressed strong protests and solemn representations. British Foreign Minister Henry Stella's third-generation Viscount Parmeson hurriedly took a plane to Datang, held a meeting with the Tang Dynasty's Foreign Minister Zhang Wei and expressed solemn representations.

Zhang Wei deliberately delayed for three days following Zhang Meng's instructions.

Taking advantage of these three days, the Tang army wiped out all the tribal chiefs and their troops who opposed Latu and retreated into the Lautoka Concession.

It turned out that the temporary refugee residence area provided by Latu to Datang had become the concession area of Datang in Fiji. The laws, public security, administration, taxation and garrison in the concession area were all owned by the Tang Empire. The lease period was 99 years. The Fijian government only retained nominal ownership of the Lautoka Concession area.

The Lautoka Concession Area is five times larger than the original one, and is directly connected to the Nadi Air Force Base. At the same time, the third largest port in Fiji, Lautoka Port is completely included in the jurisdiction of the Datang Concession Area. The Tang army even plans to build a naval base in Lautoka Port and cooperate with the Nadi Air Force Base to build a solid fortress military base for the Tang army in Fiji.

Latu made such a big concession mainly because he thanked the Tang army for helping him pacify other chief tribes in Fiji who opposed him, especially the Indian army of Maddy, and after the massacre of hundreds of thousands of Indians were massacred, the population ratio of Fiji changed drastically. Previously, there were about 450,000 Fiji people and about 400,000. In just half a month, the Fiji people dropped to 400,000, and the Indians were bloodbathed to less than 10,000. All fled from Fiji with the help of the Royal Navy New Zealand warships. The Indians in the entire Fiji were almost killed, with very few remaining, hiding in the deep mountains and dense forests.

More than 30,000 British and other ethnic groups in Fiji were frightened by the crazy massacre of the Fiji people. They evacuated Fiji and fled to Australia and New Zealand.

As a result, there were only about 400,000 Fijians and 3 million Tang people who had just obtained the nationality of the Tang Empire in the Lautoka Concession.

Before the British counterattacked Fiji, the Tang army assisted Latu in controlling the entire Fiji.

Afterwards, Zhang Meng held a meeting with Viscount Henry. Henry was furious and immediately attacked Zhang Meng.

"His Royal Highness Zhang Meng, your Tang Dynasty is preparing to leave the Commonwealth and go to war with the British Empire, right?"

"Mr. Henry is so rude! The development of the Tang Empire is inseparable from the help and support of Britain. We are part of the Commonwealth, how could a war break out with the British Empire? You are really good at joking."

Seeing Henry's teeth were almost broken, Zhang Meng's face was not red and gasping, and he still smiled calmly.

"Fiji is a colony of our British Empire. Latu rebelled and attacked the British army, but you were helping him, right?"

Zhang Meng said lightly: "I, Datang, never did anything to hurt the interests of the UK. Even if the British sees the Japanese bullying us Datang, we have no complaints. Lord Henry must have known that the Indian army of McGrady attacked our Datang temporary refugee resettlement area in Fiji and caused many Tang people to be killed and injured. Our Datang will never tolerate our subjects being hurt. Blood debt and blood repayment is the rule of our Tang people, so it is legitimate for us to send troops to Fiji. Besides, we have received the request from Latu. We also hope that Fiji will end the civil war as soon as possible to prevent the Fijian people from killing each other."

Henry was so angry that his beard was raised, if he had a beard.

"Even if you are justified in your mission, what have you done? You have almost killed all the Indians. Is this called preventing the Fijian people from killing each other?"

"Is this..."

Zhang Meng paused and explained: "There will inevitably be casualties in war, and this is a grudge between the Fei tribe and the Yin tribe, so we can't interfere."

Henry rolled his eyes immediately. He really couldn't see that Zhang Meng was even more shameless than an old politician at such a young age. No wonder he was able to beat the British hard without a sound.

"We won't talk about this! If His Highness Zhang Meng still takes into account Tang Ying's direct and friendly relationship, it is best to immediately order the withdrawal of troops from Fiji. Otherwise, when our British army counterattacks Fiji, if the Tang army has not withdrawn, it will become the enemy of the British army."

Zhang Meng snorted coldly in his heart. He looked down on the British army at all. If the British army had a very strong combat power before the First World War, however, the cruel war made the British army no longer want to fight again and dared not fight. Just as the German army easily defeated the French army and occupied France, the British army was chased and fought relentlessly by the Japanese army in Asia without any power to fight back. This was not because of how powerful the Japanese and German army were, but because of the fear of war deep in their hearts.

No matter what the British army lost its combat power, the Tang Dynasty had successfully survived the most dangerous period of three years. Now the Tang Empire has a strong air force and the most powerful naval aircraft carrier battle group in the world. In theory, it is not afraid of the great powers, including Britain, the United States and Japan.

But Zhang Meng cannot offend Britain for the time being, because he understands that the Tang Empire's current reserve force is not enough, that is, the overall national strength. The Tang army's current strength can temporarily dominate, but if it really rises to a full-scale national war, that is, to compete for national strength in various aspects such as population, economic foundation, reserve force, etc., the Tang Empire is obviously unable to compete with Britain, or even Japan.

Thinking of this, Zhang Meng immediately smiled and said, "Since Lord Henry asks our Tang army to withdraw, I have absolutely no objection. I will immediately order the withdrawal of the troops. However, I ask Lord Henry to allow the Tang army to temporarily garrison in the Lautoka Concession area to protect the troops. You know, there are three million refugees there, and the consequences of the riots will be unimaginable."

Henry did not have first-hand news from Fiji, and he had no idea that Zhang Meng had already completed all the Tang army's operational goals by delaying the time these few days. He was relieved to see Zhang Meng agreeing to withdraw the troops, because he also knew the strength of the Tang army, and if he really wanted to make a fuss, the British army would definitely suffer a great loss.

Since Zhang Meng had given him face, Henry didn't want to make things difficult for Zhang Meng. He knew the refugees from Northeast China in Lautoka District. Zhang Meng's request was reasonable, and he had no reason to object.

After Henry left, Zhang Wei came over to ask about the results, and Zhang Meng told her truthfully.

"Henry didn't mention the Nadi Airport again, proving that the British authorities have made concessions to us. What are you going to do?"

"We will go further if the British take a step back! I will continue to support Latu, and I must let the British break a front teeth."

Zhang Wei immediately said worriedly: "The Japanese problem has not been solved yet. You dare to offend the British. I think you are walking a tightrope on the cliff!"

"I seek wealth and honor in danger, and most national interests can only be obtained by taking chestnuts from fire. I just want to walk a tightrope on the cliff, which is more exciting and challenging."
