Chapter 13 The People's Rampage

Chapter 13: The whole nation runs away

In the early morning of Hamburg Port, snowflakes were flying. Local policemen holding shield sticks and Soviet soldiers in combat armed forces set up tight warning lines in the parliament square. High-pitched slogans came faintly from the direction of the port they faced. In the front hall of the parliament building, people in suits and ties were all worried. The few Soviet officers were carrying guns, and their faces were mixed with very complicated expressions.

"Soviet**, refuse to occupy, the Soviet Union withdraws its troops!"

"If you can't live with dignity, you will die in battle!"

"Defend Germany and defend the right to maintain health!"

...

The slogans coming from the port gradually became clear, and they seemed vigorous and powerful under the inspiration of the strong wind. The police at the outermost part of the parliament square began to survey each other. Some of them were pro-Soviet elements, some were non-German, but more were soldiers who took off their German costumes. If they wanted to put their compatriots to put their demands into force, few people would really be able to take action. However, the Soviet soldiers with live ammunition stood behind them, and to put it bluntly, they used guns to block the mighty marchers. Since the collapse of the Third Reich regime, demonstrations have become a means for the German people to show their positions and fight for rights. In 1947 alone, there were more than 20,000 demonstrations of all sizes in Germany, with the high number and the high density.

The Western Allies, which were relatively mild in the means, welcomed the Soviets, who were known for their toughness. The German people once gave up this characteristic. They were roughly divided into two groups. One group resisted the Soviet occupation by extreme force, while the other group responded silently to the Soviet tank bayonets, which occupied the majority of the 60 million Germans. However, as long as a nation has not yet truly subsided, the warriors' struggle will sooner or later awaken it. The Battle of the Upper Rhine Valley, which shocked the world, is such a striking flag. As the German freedom fighters used their flesh and blood to resist the invincible offensives of the Soviet army again and again, more and more Germans mustered up the courage to change the current pessimistic fate. The uprising in Bavaria and Württemberg further heated up this imperative national movement.

"Germany belongs to the Germans!"

In the wind and snow, countless sounds gathered into surging waves and swept along the streets. On the parliament square, only Soviet officers were giving orders to their soldiers. The policemen who were holding low salaries to maintain public orders were standing in place like wooden sculptures. The light reflected from their eyes could hardly find any cruel and decisive components. In front of them, the black of the sea tide was slowly approaching, and tens of thousands of people, regardless of age, occupation, no matter whether they were old or young, no matter whether they were high or low, they were holding hands, shoulder to shoulder, holding the bright German tricolor flag, holding their heads and chests, even if they were shot and died in the next second. At this moment, they were fearless!

"Hamburg citizens have noticed! The Parliament Square and surrounding streets are fully martial law, and no entry is allowed without permission, otherwise the consequences will be borne by one!"

A German-speaking voice rang out from the radio speakers around the Parliament Square, without emotion, purely an ultimatum and warning.

The black crowd ignored this at all. They continued to move towards the parliament square. After getting closer, faces, young, old, young or simple, appeared in front of the guards. They did not have uniform clothing, Russians, pants, shoes, all kinds of things. Some should have worked in factories, some should have listened to classes in schools, some should have been seamen, vendors and even political staff. They came here at the risk of losing their lives, not only to prove their courage.

"Hamburg citizens are careful. Please stop the assembly and disband immediately, otherwise they will be regarded as dangerous elements. We have the right to shoot!"

The voice and meaning of the radio speaker were colder than the air. In the parliament square, the Soviet soldiers behind the police had already installed bayonets on their rifles, and the machine guns deployed at high points and major roads were also adjusted to standby.

"Hamburg citizens, please be careful, you are only one step away from the dangerous elements. Keep moving forward and we will kill you!"

The warnings from the radio speakers are cold. In the square, a Soviet officer asked for a submachine gun from the soldier next to him, pulled down the bolt and fired in the air. The sound of the gunshot sounded particularly chilling.

The policemen holding stick shields were still like sculptures, and the parade that approached the range of grenade throwing finally stopped slowly. Just as the Soviets were relieved of the "cliff" of the German people, a loud trumpet was erected in the crowd, and a pleasant female voice came from inside: "According to the international armistice agreement, the Soviet army should evacuate Germany completely before December 31, 1948. Now on January 27, 1949, the Soviet soldiers who remained in Germany increased instead of reducing; according to the Peace Association

It is decided that the order of the German general election should be maintained during the period of Soviet troops stationed, and the new German government should be established through fair and just elections. However, our votes have been abandoned wantonly. Even blind people will not choose a group of people who have no faith and no backbone to be the leader of the country. The so-called election is a scam! Listen to the Soviet soldiers, the Germans do not welcome you, please leave Germany! Now is a good warning. If you continue to be obsessed with it, the 60 million German people will throw you back to Russia!”

The speaker on this side of the Parliament Square immediately did not want to be outdone: "We have a population of 150 million and a brave and hardworking Soviet people!"

A moment later, the male voice said: "The Soviet army had no intention of violating the armistice agreement. It was the actions of the German rioters who interfered with our evacuation operations. Only by eliminating these rioters can we get a real peaceful environment for the Central and European countries, and the Soviet army will definitely withdraw at that time."

"Nonsense!" the female voice retorted sharply, "The Germans were dissatisfied with your military and political strategies and then stood up to resist. If you don't evacuate Germany for a day, the battle will not end for one day. Three hundred thousand square kilometers of German land will become your cemetery!"

"The rioters did not put down their weapons for a day, and the Soviet army could not evacuate for a day. The Germans who recognized the reality chose to support us, and you..." The radio speaker on the parliament square once again issued a warning: "Don't bewitched by the destruction elements, your family is still waiting for you to return safely, and don't treat your precious lives as a game!"

The female broadcaster on the demonstrators showed a manly spirit, and she kept shouting: "Let the Soviets get out of Germany!"

The people followed in unison and shouted this slogan. As more and more people joined the parade, their shouts were like mountains and tsunamis!

The parade moved forward again, and the periphery cordon composed of hundreds of policemen suddenly became nervous. Facing the approaching protesters, the police began to retreat continuously, allowing the Soviet soldiers behind to scold fiercely in awkward German. They were like being pushed back by a pair of powerful hands.

Dada dada dada dada...

Several submachine guns fired at the sky at the same time, and the voices on the radio speakers also issued the last warning to the demonstrators in an extremely harsh tone. The rekindled sense of national honor drove tens of thousands of Hamburgers to move forward bravely. Occupying the parliamentary building would be the first step they took to abandon weakness and fight for freedom. On this cold day, the momentum of death was ready to die overwhelmed the hesitation and dilemma. On the one hand, the Soviet rulers wanted to stabilize the situation in China and Europe, and on the other hand, they were worried that excessive suppression would lead to an extreme passive situation. Their force of deterrence did not turn into a bloody massacre. In the process of withdrawing from the parliamentary square and parliamentary building, the Soviet army and the Hamburg officials protected by the Soviet army were attacked by the demonstrators and surrounding citizens.

The stone and fruit offensive, the Soviet army was angry and embarrassed by the injuries of personnel. Their warning shooting caused casualties among German people. A large number of Soviet troops transferred from other areas took the parliament building back from the demonstrators 24 hours later. They forcibly dispersed the marchers and launched a large-scale search in Hamburg City, quickly arrested more than 300 organizers of the demonstrations and handed them over to the local court in Hamburg for investigation and trial. Amid the protests of the German people, only a small number of major organizers were convicted of disturbing public order and incitement, but the Soviet army announced the implementation of military control over the two major ports, Hamburg and Bremen, and legitimately conducted strict inspections of ships and cargoes passing through the ports.

Shortly after the non-riot demonstrations in Hamburg, many cities in western and central Germany, including Münster, Bochum, Saarbrücken, Bonn, and Wiesbaden, broke out in large-scale demonstrations and protests. The German people expressed their dissatisfaction with the delay in withdrawal of the Soviet army through actions such as attacks and occupying the city center. Like the puppet regimes that appeared on the historical stage in the past, the German New Deal, which was in charge of the Soviet occupying forces with the support of the Soviet army, followed the Soviet occupation forces, but were unable to suppress the surging national movement. In many places near the control areas of the Allied Power, the police and security forces composed of Germans were supporting the resisters openly and secretly. After the consumption of tens of millions of elite Soviet Union, the national strength could no longer grow

The time was maintained, and the troops were maintained in the vast occupied areas of Central, Eastern and South-East Europe. When the elite troops were transferred to the Upper Rhine Basin to siege the "rioters", the troops could be dispatched to various regions of Germany. They could also implement direct occupation and maintenance on large and medium-sized cities with large populations. They were powerless in those towns and villages, especially remote areas far away from the main transportation line. The "revived" German Baath Party and the imperial direct forces that returned to their homeland were experienced in inciting the hearts of the people. They used the support of Western allies to promote non-armed resistance from west to east, from south to north, which made the puppet government orders blocked and the public base was drastically lost, and the tomb pit was dug early for its subversion.
