Chapter 4 Poetry Society

In the afternoon, Xiang Jianyun came to help Wu Liming find out Yi Huan’s thoughts about yesterday. Yi Huan didn’t see her. Yi’s mother asked her eldest daughter-in-law Tang Shuangyun to ask the reason by sending pastries. Tang Shuangyun walked into Yi Huan’s door with the sugar cake she made, "Little sister."

"Sister-in-law." Yi Huan was copying ancient paintings. When she saw Tang Shuangyun coming, she hurriedly put down her brush, went up to meet her, and took the plate in her hand.

The sister-in-law and sister-in-law sat down at the table. Yi Huan brought a pot and poured a cup of tea for Tang Shuangyun, "Is there anything wrong with my sister-in-law here?"

"Did the little sister quarrel with her cousin Xiang?" Tang Shuangyun asked directly.

"There was no quarrel, but she told people everywhere that I broke off the engagement, and I didn't want to pay attention to her anymore." Yi Huan said lightly.

"It's right to ignore her. If she comes to the door again in the future, she will drive her out." Tang Shuangyun's face looked ugly. Although it is not as good as before, the matter of breaking up the engagement is still not a glorious thing.

The sister-in-law and sister-in-law chatted for a few words. Yi Huan tasted a piece of sugar cake and gave her advice. Tang Shuangyun left and went to see Yi's mother and told her about it. Yi's mother sneered, "Go and ask the boss, can Xiang Jianlei help?"

Tang Shuangyun understood what her mother-in-law meant and asked, "Do you want to take back the house?"

Yi's mother thought for a while and said, "Old Mrs. Xiang is still here, let them live in the house first." Old Mrs. Xiang is the younger sister of the late Old Mrs. Yi. The Xiang family was also very wealthy, but Old Mrs. Xiang was not only addicted to gambling, but also smoked opium, and lost all the family business. He even sold his ancestral home and had nowhere to live. Finally, he asked the old woman to go to Mrs. Yi, and Mrs. Yi lent the three-entry yard in Jianzi Lane of Tieshi Hutong to the Xiang family, and lived there for decades.

In the middle of the night that day, the unlucky chief of staff died of serious injuries. Governor Zhang, who was injured on his left shoulder, angrily ordered martial law throughout the city. This ban lasted for three days, and the chef who went to buy vegetables in the kitchen complained that the fresh side dishes were getting more and more expensive.

Under pressure from the people and the envoys, General Zhang had to cancel the martial law. Vegetable farmers outside the city were able to transport vegetables into the city, and the price of vegetables dropped. Yi Yan's wife Li Ying was invited by a friend to attend a poetry meeting, and Yi's mother asked Li Ying to take Yi Huan with her. Li Ying forced Yi Huan out, who was afraid of heat and didn't want to go out.

Sitting in the rickshaw, Yi Huan looked bored. In fact, she knew why Yi's mother insisted that Li Ying take her out. Her marriage was so bad. Yi's mother is now anxious to find her next family, but she is still young, so she really has no hurry to get married.

Soon we arrived at the teahouse where the poetry meeting was held. Someone had arrived first. Ms. Wang Junfen, who organized the poetry meeting, and her scholar husband Li Mengde. Li Mengde is Li Ying's clan brother. Li Ying called them two, "brother, sister-in-law."

When Li Mengde saw the two, he nodded with a smile. Wang Junfen smiled and said hello, "The fifteenth sister has brought the little girl too, come and sit down."

After sitting down and chatting for a few words, some people came one after another, some of them knew Yi Huan and some who didn’t. There were also two young men, Chen Jingxing and Wang Huaiqiu. They also published poems and essays in the monthly magazine of "Shi Juan". They were poets who had just shown their strengths.

The most talked about poetry is poetry, not ancient poems that emphasize parallelism and rhythm, but new style poems. Chen Jingxing highly praised Mr. Jin Qingqi and was reciting his newly written poem, reading it enthusiastically and ups and downs.

After reading and evaluating poems, they just write poems. Everyone attending the meeting had to participate. Yi Huan could only think about poetry in a reluctant way. She sat by the window and looked out, and happened to see Wu Liming whom she met in the cinema and bookstore that day. He was talking to a young woman, who was not the one she met in the cinema that day.

It was far apart and I couldn't hear what they were saying. After a while, Wu Liming pulled out the sleeves that were caught by the woman and strode away. The woman chased after him a few steps. Seeing him walking away, she stomped her feet in anger a few times, turned around and headed to the other side.

"Little sister, have you thought about it?" Li Ying finished writing her poem, turned her head and saw Yi Huan still looking out the window, and gently pushed her.

Although Yi Huan wrote lyrics on her paintings, she had never really written poems. She always believed that this kind of poetry meeting was held in boredom to pass the time, and was too lazy to worry about creating and copying it casually, "From tomorrow, be a happy person to feed horses, chop firewood, and travel around the world. From tomorrow tomorrow, I care about food and vegetables. I have a house facing the sea, and the spring flowers are blooming. From tomorrow, I communicate with every relative and tell them my happiness... I only want to face the sea, and the spring flowers are blooming."

"Good sentence, facing the sea, the flowers bloom in spring." Wang Junfen praised.

"This poem is simple, bright, timeless and fresh, and can be published in "Poetry Engraving"." Li Mengde smiled.

"I'd better not want it." Yi Huan blushed and refused. He just copied it, but he still published it, which was a bit shameless.

Li Mengde and his wife insisted, and others agreed, Yi Huan had to agree, and Wang Junfen asked:

"Little sister, are you posting it with your original name or a pseudonym?"

"Please take a pseudonym." Li Ying interrupted. The daughter of the Yi family did not have such a reputation. Even if she published her poems in "Shi Ji", she also used a pseudonym.

Yi Huan smiled slightly, and wrote "Le Ling" with his pen and wrote "Le Ling" in his words; Le is the continuation of Huan, and Ling is her name in another time and space.

After the poetry meeting ended, Li Ying and Yi Huan went home. On the way, Li Ying asked: "Little sister, how about Mr. Chen and Mr. Wang?"

Yi Huan's eyes flashed and she said, "Not really." The country was in trouble, and two people who didn't know the hardships of the world were sour.

Li Ying raised her eyebrows, knowing that she didn't like it.

Two days later, the Chen family sent an invitation, and Chen Huiping, the fifth lady of the Chen family, held a dance party and invited Yi Huan to attend; the Chief of General Staff died, and Chen's father, the deputy chief of staff, was about to be promoted. Chen's father was happy, but he was not able to celebrate it extensively, after all, the former Chief of General Staff was not cold.

In the early days of the Republic of China, warlords fought in a mess and the officialdom was dark. Although Yi's father was classmates and friends with Chen's father in his early years, he later parted ways due to different ideas and did not interact much. This time, Chen's father sent an invitation in the name of his daughter. Yi's father was so happy that he pretended to be confused and did not attend the banquet, so he asked his daughter to take his place. If the Yi family wanted to do business, he could not offend a powerful figure like Chen's father too much, and could only give in to the false.

My daughter was going to attend a dance, and Yi's mother wanted to call the tailor Chang came to the house to tailor the women's family to make new clothes for Yi Huan; Yi Huan hurriedly stopped her, "Mom, no need, I bought a new dress before, which looks very beautiful, so I'll wear that one."

Yi's mother asked in disgust: "Isn't it the kind of Western skirt that has a tucked waist and exposed breasts?"

"Not that kind, I'll change it for you." Yi Huan changed her skirt and turned around in front of Yi's mother, "Mom, how about it?"

A green dress made Yi Huan look as white as jade, looking beautiful and quiet. Yi's mother nodded with satisfaction, "It looks good, just wear this one."
