40. Another life(1/2)
"Drip, drip, drip"
Merlin was lying on a bed, beside him, some complex instruments were operating, and on the screen on the other side, a green line was beating, representing Merlin's heartbeat.
A young nurse was helping Merlin draw blood. The smell on her body was very good, with a faint fragrance of flowers.
Unfortunately, the hospital doesn't smell good, Merlin doesn't like the smell of disinfectant, and the doctors who come and go in white clothes.
He still remembers that when he was a child, he was afraid to go to the hospital, not because he was afraid of getting injections or taking medicine, he just didn't like that atmosphere. Sadness, despair, pain, sadness, this is a place full of depression, and healthy people won't come here.
He was not sick.
He was just undergoing a physical examination before joining the job and taking blood tests. It is said that this is for his subsequent training plan to collect information.
“You are in good health.”
The doctor with a stethoscope walked into Merlin's ward with the test results. He said to the young man lying on the bed:
"There is no problem with the heart, the circulatory system, the brain, etc. The test results also show that you are a healthy and normal young man. In the past decade, I have never seen a person as healthy as you. The only weird thing is that your blood temperature is below the standard, but this is not a big problem."
"Give it, this is your medical examination report."
The doctor handed Merlin a few pieces of paper, and he put his hands in his pocket and said to Merlin:
"After drawing blood, you can leave here."
"Thank you."
Merlin nodded to the doctor and expressed his gratitude.
A few minutes after the doctor left, Nick Fury walked into the house, and the young nurse finished her blood and left the room.
Merlin looked at the little girl leaving with regret, then placed her eyes on Fury's face, and he rubbed his arms while saying:
"Do you know that sometimes, your face is really scary. You should learn to smile."
"Of course I can laugh, but that doesn't mean I'm happy."
Fury answered expressionlessly, then took out an identity card from his pocket and threw it to Merlin, he said:
"Get this card and after you complete the training from the Secret Service Academy, you will go to the base to register, and there will be a dedicated person to be responsible for your entry process."
"What I need to tell you in advance is that Merlin, now you are still under the supervision of the supervisory staff. You will not be able to officially become a member of the Strategic Science Legion until your review process is completed. Before that, I hope you can get well trained to throw away all the habits you shouldn't have!"
Merlin snorted, and he imitated Fury's tone and said:
"I can certainly throw them away and be a ruthless secret agent like you. But that doesn't mean I like to do that."
He looked at Fury, as if he had noticed Fury's indifference, so he changed the subject and said:
“When did I start to undergo serum conversion training?”
"No hurry."
Fury answered slowly with his hands behind his back:
"At least we have to wait for us to figure out why you often have nosebleeds. In Ms. Carter's memory, Captain America had never had this situation after receiving serum conversion, which may mean it."
"That doesn't mean anything."
Merlin interrupted Fury, and he said with some excitement:
"Stop looking for it, you can't find the reason."
"oh?"
Fury narrowed his eyes:
"It sounds like you're hiding something? You know why you're bleeding, right?"
Merlin put on her clothes, took her ID card and walked out of the room.
Fury followed him, as if waiting for Merlin's answer. After walking out of the hospital at the headquarters of the Strategic Science Corps, Merlin stood by the roadside and looked at New York City in the distance early in the morning. He took a deep breath of the morning air, and he said a little sadly:
"Yes I know."
"During the time when I just signed a contract with the demon, whenever I noticed the magic in my body, I would have my nose bleeding, and when it was worse, even my ears would have blood. But this would not harm my health, a friend told me that this is the process of my soul growing up and it cannot represent anything."
Hearing Merlin's words, Fury's expression changed for a moment, and he whispered:
"This is the first time I have heard an interesting statement. It sounds mysterious."
"mystery?"
Merlin shook her head:
"No, you think it's mysterious, you're curious about it because it didn't happen to you, my sir. Believe me, when a demon lives in your body, you won't think it's fun."
"What does it mean?"
Fury asked again, Merlin hesitated for a moment, as if organizing the language. He and Fury walked along the streets of the hospital toward the parking lot, and he said:
"Every bleeding represents the erosion of dark magic on my body and soul. After just injecting serum, after my body was strengthened, I thought this situation would weaken or even disappear. But no, on the contrary, I could feel that as my body became stronger and stronger, the magic it could carry became more and more, and its erosion became more and more fierce."
"Every night, in every dark night, it is growing and growing silently. It lurks in my soul until it is strong enough, swallowing me from the inside."
Merlin rubbed his forehead with a little pain, and he said:
"Last nightmare, I had nightmares all night. I thought I wouldn't have nightmares anymore, but unfortunately, it might be just my wishful thinking. It never disappeared, and as I use it more and more frequently, it is connected to me."
"It is transforming me, Sir Fury, it is pushing me to a boundary, and once I pass it I will lose my identity as a human being."
"What will you become?"
Fury took out the car keys and opened the door of his black sedan. He sat in the car, Merlin sitting next to him, and he asked while starting the car:
"Will it become a demon that destroys everything and spits out the fire?"
“Not that exaggerated.”
Merlin smiled, leaning against his seat and said to Fury:
"According to my friend, I will become a half-demon. It is not a human, nor a demon. If I can't control my inner desire for destruction, I will become a terrifying killing monster. Speaking of which, have you never seen a half-demon? It shouldn't be a person as knowledgeable as you."
"Um?"
Fury widened his eyes, he fiddled with the steering wheel and asked:
"Why must I see half-demons? I have indeed hosted many dangerous things, but to be honest, I have never seen those alien creatures with my own eyes."
"Then you are so lucky."
Merlin turned his head and looked outside the car window. In the sun, the whole city seemed to be awakening. He said:
"Do you know? There are no less than 5 and a half demons hidden in the Manhattan area alone. In New York, there are almost 11 of them lurking in the crowd, with various identities, and lurking in this city for different purposes. I have always been curious about how many such monsters should be there in North America?"
"What did you say?"
Fury was really surprised now, he looked at Merlin:
"Can you be sure? There are really 11 and a half demons in New York?"
"Yes, I can be sure."
Merlin closed her eyes and recalled the five months he lived in Hell's Kitchen, he said:
"There are at least 11 people, and they are just half-demons with powerful inheritance, which means that their power comes directly from the great demons or the great demons. Once the power is out of control, it will immediately cause a disaster of the active fire melting the city."
"As for those humans who are infected by ordinary aliens, there are more. But according to my understanding, if they are just aliens like ghosts or little devils, they will not cause any major problems in human society. Oh, by the way, I don't know if you know it. In fact, there are many vampires operating in some remote places in New York."
"I have seen them seduce ignorant girls and boys in the streets."
"Click"
Fury stepped on the brakes suddenly, and he looked at Merlin beside him. After a moment, he took out the paper and pen from him and handed it to Merlin. He said seriously:
"Give me all the hidden life and activity areas of the semi-demon that you know now, and the physiological characteristics. And those areas where a large number of alien creatures are gathered, in short, I want any information you know about these guys!"
"Madam Carter may have seen this Merlin, you are really a talent we need, about paranormal phenomena and affairs, so I will give you a task, and this is your first mission to join the Strategic Science Legion."
Fury patted Merlin on the shoulder and said to him:
"You are directly managed by me. I need you to find all the hidden aliens in New York in the shortest time. It is best to make a list of abnormal creatures."
"It's useless, Fury."
Merlin shook his head, and he said to Fury while writing something on the paper:
"I have fought with your agents. They can't even deal with me, an ordinary person who has only accepted a little bit of dark power. When facing those powerful half-demons, you can only go to die. In other words, even if you give you everything you need, you can't deal with them."
"Who said we didn't?"
Fury snorted, he posed in a mysterious posture and said to Merlin:
"How many days have you been in the Strategic Science Legion? Do you know our details?"
"Come on, Merlin, you don't know how important the Strategic Science Legion occupies in this system. We also have masters who specialize in handling alien affairs, but because they are masters, we can't always bother them. You can only do the small tasks of collecting intelligence."
A trace of indifference flashed in Fury's eyes, and he said:
"You are only responsible for positioning and inventory. We will do what offends people!"
Merlin looked at the expression on Fury's face. In the state of spiritual vision, he clearly saw the confidence in Fury's eyes. He nodded thoughtfully and said to Fury:
"Since you are so confident, I will take this task. When I officially join the company, I will start this task."
To be continued...
