31. Gotham's Secret. Family and Relatives
In the broken ruins at the top of the Arkham Asylum, Demian was dodging left and right while attacking several sharp claws.
The child's movements are very agile, and he can always dodge the blade before the sword, and then wait for an opportunity to fight back. The blade in his hand is as flexible as his movements. Every time he swings it, he can cut off a part of the claw body in front of him.
But his enemies were a group of undead, they didn't care about physical damage, would not bleed, and would not die.
Behind Demien there were already many burnt wrecks, but in front of him, the number of sharp claws did not seem to have dropped at all.
"I need fire!"
Damien flew up and kicked the attacking claw back, and he shouted in the communicator:
"Who can light me up?"
"Here, little brother! Dodge now!"
Grayson's slightly rogue voice sounded in the communicator. Damian did not hesitate and jumped out of the ruins in a flash. The next moment, the batmobile that was whistling from another direction shattered the rock in front of him, pushing several sharp claws that could not dodge and hit another wall.
The first generation of Robin, driving the Batmobile, pressed the button on the steering wheel. As the windy Batmobile headlights moved, two rolling columns of fire spurted out towards the sharp claws squeezed in the corner of the wall.
"Jason needs help, Damian, go there!"
While turning the steering wheel, Grayson let the flexible and powerful Batmobile turn around the ruins, spraying the scorching column of fire in all directions, preventing the continuous invasion of sharp claws, shouting to Demian:
"Take him back to me, this car's flamethrower can burn them."
"Isn't he very arrogant?"
Damien picked up a sword with sharp claws from the ground, rushed to the other side of the ruins, and complained:
"I thought he could do everything without help."
"Stop making trouble."
Grayson stepped on the accelerator, and the roaring Batmobile rushed around the ruins, helping Damien clear a way. On the other side of the battlefield, the second-generation Robin Jason Todd fought a little hard.
This kid is very talented, but after all, he has been following Batman for too short. He is not as skilled as Grayson in terms of combat, nor is he as relaxed as Damian.
He was surrounded by several sharp claws and seemed a little busy.
But Jason gritted his teeth and did not retreat, but waved the two fighting sticks in his hand, fighting hard with those undead monsters.
When Damian arrived, Jason had already had a lot of blood on his combat uniform, but his offensive did not stop at all, as if the pain did not exist.
"Does go!"
Damian shouted fiercely, Jason looked like a helper, and he no longer hesitated. He rolled on the ground for a week, and when he got up, his two sharp claws had been nailed to the ground by the sword thrown by Damian.
"Are you a fool?"
Damien rolled in the air for a few weeks before landing on the rock beside Jason, who said to the breathless Jason as he took out a dart from his waist:
"Why do you have to hold on even though you know you can't beat it?"
"Batman never taught me to run away without fighting."
Jason said stubbornly while pressing the wound on his arm:
"We are here to save him, not to escape."
"Then you, a student, are really bad."
Damian threw out the dart in his hand, accurately hit the eye socket of the sharp claw in front of him, knocked it back several steps, and then said to Jason sarcastically:
"Batman learned to fight in the Assassin League. Dodge and counterattack are the essence of his tactics. You only learned his fighting style, but failed to learn his fighting wisdom. You see, Grayson learned it very well."
"I will surpass him."
Jason replied unhappily:
"It's just a matter of time."
"Then I hope you don't die because of your recklessness before you surpass him."
Damien jumped off the rock, and he looked back at the ruins behind him. The flames lit by Grayson with a batmobile were like torches in the dark. The burning scene had attracted the attention of the residents around him. If they did not leave, they might soon be surrounded by the police who rushed over.
Although Gotham's police are a waste, they undoubtedly have a numerical advantage.
No matter how hard Damian, Grayson and Jason can fight, they will also bleed. Faced with hundreds of guns, they may hate it here.
"It's time for us to leave."
Damien kicked the claw in front of him, and behind him, Jason raised a stone hard and smashed the claw that fell, pressing the undead in place.
"Greyson, drive over!"
Damien shouted in the communicator:
"We have to rush out before we get surrounded here."
"We can't leave!"
Jason grabbed Damian's wrist and said:
"Batman is still inside!"
"Merlin has gone to save him. He can handle all the troubles. We have to protect ourselves first."
Damien said coldly:
"If Batman died like this, he can only say that he is just that."
"You bastard!"
Jason screamed in anger:
"That's your father!"
"Is that so? I think he's more like your and Grayson's father."
Damien shook Jason's hand away, he said:
"He hasn't been by my side since I was born."
"you!"
Facing Damien who was in trouble, Jason almost gritted his teeth and wanted to punch the little bastard, but the problem was that he might not be able to beat him.
To be honest, in Jason's mind, Bruce does overlap with his father's image, and for this reason, he can't stand the sarcasm of others towards Batman, especially Bruce's real son.
As the surrounding flames burned, Jason had a very complex light in his eyes.
To be honest, he was a little jealous of Demian.
"They are coming again, hell."
In the darkness around, shadows appeared again. Damien's toes rolled, and a sword that the sharp claws used jumped into his hands. The boy who was enjoying the battle turned his head and said to Jason:
"Hold your weapon tightly, don't hold me back this time."
But just as the two teenagers were about to fight again, in the ruins behind them, several whistling sounds of wind broke out in the air, and the black bat knife drew several spiraling trajectories in the air, accurately piercing into the bodies of those claws. The next moment, the high-energy explosives in the bat knife detonated, and amid the dull explosions, several gorgeous flames soared into the sky.
"Oh, what are you two kids arguing?"
As the dark wind danced, Merlin appeared beside Damian and Jason. He shook the wand in his hand, and the spell of the sharp fire was thrown in front of him. As the summoned magic flames were burned, the sharp claws nailed to the ground by Damian were soon burned to ashes.
Merlin hooked his fingers, and the metal in the scorching ashes fell into his hands. Behind him, Batman in a cloak also walked out of the darkness silently.
He seemed to have returned to his previous cold fighting posture, but under the pointed-eared helmet, there was still an unreliable light in his eyes.
He hasn't recovered completely from his experience of witnessing his father's sins, and to be honest, from Bruce's point of view, this incident almost overturned his beliefs and it took him a while to adjust himself.
"I'll leave first."
Merlin grabbed Damien's arm beside him and said to Bruce:
"See you in Wayne Manor!"
After saying that, the shape-shifting spell was activated, and while the light was twisted, Merlin and Demian disappeared into the burning fire.
Grayson drove the Batmobile and rushed to Bruce, who held the injured Jason into the car and sat in the driver's seat. He raised his head and looked at Dick Grayson beside the car, he said:
"Don't you go back with us?"
"I, I still have classes tomorrow."
Greyson, wearing a blue combat uniform and having a bat emblem on his chest, scratched his head, and said to Batman with a calm look:
"The tutor at Brookhaven University is quite strict. If you miss classes, the results of the exam this semester will be very bad. I have to rush back before class. Don't worry about me, Batman, what you taught me, so that I can take good care of myself."
"Also, it's great to see you safe."
The free and easy young man waved to Bruce, turned around, flexibly crossed the low wall behind him, and soon disappeared into the darkness.
Bruce watched Grayson leave, and he started the Batmobile, which soon disappeared into the burning, ashes-covered fire before the police arrived.
On the other side, in a woodland not far from Wayne Manor, Merlin and Demian appeared on a small hill.
Demian shook his head, letting the uncomfortable dizziness disappear from his mind. He looked at Merlin beside him, then took off the small pocket around his waist and handed it to him.
In that pocket, there were several pieces of mysterious metal obtained from the clawed corpse.
There are big and small, and there are all that soft touch.
"Thank you, Damian."
Merlin squeezed the metal into a ball and put it in his pocket. He stood on this quiet hillside, and Demian stood beside him. The child took off his mask and breathed the air in the darkness. He enjoyed the battle before, but now he looked a little depressed.
"We joined forces to rescue your father. You proved that you could fight better than Bruce. Successfully, he owed you a favor. Why did you still show this expression?"
Merlin said to Demian:
"Let me guess it's because of Jason Todd?"
"No."
Damien denied:
"It has nothing to do with that stupid boy."
"Did you smell it?"
Merlin sniffed and suddenly said to Damien:
"That sour smell."
"What?"
Damian turned his head and looked at Merlin, who shrugged at him:
"You're jealous of Jason, right? You think he's snatching your place."
"I'm not so naive!"
Damien hugged her arms, twisted her face, and said indifferently:
"Jason is just a fool. Although he is weak, he is a timid temper who cares about it. Sooner or later, he will kill himself because of this."
"But he followed Bruce, like his son, admiring Bruce, like a child admiring his father, trusting Bruce absolutely and obeying him."
Merlin whispered:
"It must be great to be able to trust someone so unreservedly. Damian, but Jason's position should have been yours."
"I don't care."
Damien snorted:
"I don't want anyone who loves you."
"Okay, you guys."
Merlin squatted down and looked at Demian, he said:
"This should be the family business of your Wayne family. I shouldn't interfere, but Talia asks me to take good care of you, so I will take care of you, no more or less. Listen to me, you can't get along with Bruce, not because you are born to be in conflict, and there is no hatred between your father and son."
"You are just too strange and long to be close, but you have inherited the character of Bruce. Neither of you are the kind of people who will take the initiative to say 'love'. This is normal. Not everyone talks about love every day."
"But he is your father, and no matter whether Jason is here or not, he can't change this fact. I think that the child is probably jealous of you. The big reason for his argument with you is because he thinks you don't know how to cherish me. I mean, you should learn to change your rampant personality, just like getting along with Ah Fu, learning to get along with your father."
"Why did I change?"
Damian looked at Merlin and said seriously:
"Why wasn't Bruce adapting to me? It took him almost 2 years to train Dick Grayson to be Robin. After Grayson left him, he found Jason again. He taught him, he took care of him, he protected him but he never did that for me!"
"Yes, he didn't know my existence, I didn't blame him, but when I got home on the first day, he didn't even give me a 'welcome' or a hug!"
"He just told me that my grandfather was a bad guy and told me not to learn from him. He asked me to stay at Wayne Manor and asked me to live in a way that I was not used to. I had no father since I was a child, so what? I can still live alone! And I can live more freely and better!"
Damien gritted her teeth and said:
"I don't need a father! I don't need a father like Bruce!"
This child's words silenced Merlin.
Sure enough, he shouldn't have intervened in this matter from the beginning. There were too many factors mixed in the father-son relationship between Damian and Bruce. Neither Damian nor Bruce were the kind of people who would take the initiative to change. This was not a trouble that Merlin could solve.
And looking at Merlin's silence, Damian suddenly said:
"You and my mother met earlier than she and Bruce. Why didn't you pursue her at that time? I think we are better matched than me and Bruce."
"Come on."
Merlin said:
"Not everyone can accept a woman like your mother."
He stood up and looked at Demian.
A moment later, he took something out of his pocket and put it into Demian's hand. It was an alchemy product, like a pendant, but there was another vague raven mark on the pendant.
"What's this?"
Damian played with the metal pendant, and he looked at Merlin, who said to him:
"I made a microphone some time ago, you can treat it as a magical phone, but it is safer and communication will not be tracked unless you use it in front of a great wizard, but I guess you won't be so reckless."
"I won't be with you all the time, Damian, actually, I might be leaving Gotham soon."
Merlin said to Demian:
"You are right. We are really aligned. I don't have many friends, but I think you are one. Listen to me, go back and have a good talk with Bruce. Believe me, he loves you."
"I think the reason why he is cold to you is probably because he is afraid that you will encounter the same childhood as him. He knows how dangerous the job he is. He is afraid that after you fall in love with him, he will disappear in your life in a very cruel and abrupt way, and leave you alone and live alone again."
Merlin stroked Demian's hair, his voice softer:
"Bruce, he is doing a job that can only be supported by ideals and beliefs. He thinks he is indestructible, but he is actually very fragile. He just started a horrible nightmare. He now needs a pillar that is firmer than beliefs."
