1. Merlin's Beginnings(1/2)
On July 17, 1989, the sun shone on the land of Wisconsin. This land called "prairie" by the Indians finally reached the best moment of the year.
The milk produced here almost fills the entire earth with fragrance, and for others, this season is also very important because they will usher in the turning point in the first half of their lives.
August is the start of university, which means there is not much time left for young people who graduate from high school to have fun.
On the side of the farm, on the road, young people full of youthful energy drive around. Boys and girls with hormonal surges are prone to do romantic things during this chaotic and enigmatic season. Of course, occasionally they also have to bear the bad consequences after passion.
"Merlin!Merlin!"
A black muscle car drove through the road ahead of the farm at a speed of 120 miles, and then stopped outside the farm with a chic elegance. On the car, there were a few girls dressed in cool clothes, shouting at the farm.
"Go to play with us! Don't be alone! You nerd!"
The boy driving kept honking the horn, alarming all the cows on the farm. After a while, a young man wearing a striped shirt and looking slightly thin walked out of the garage with a wrench.
He has black hair, light gray eyes, 1.8 meters in size and a pretty face.
He had black oil stains on his clothes and hands, as if he was repairing something just now. He reached out to cover the sunlight above his head, waved to the men and women in the car. He shouted:
"You guys go and play, I'm still a little busy."
"Don't do this, Merlin."
A girl in the car stood up and shouted sweetly as others cheered:
"Let's play with us."
The other girls also started to make excuses. It seemed that Meilin had a good impression of the girls. Of course, the boys didn't like him much. The guy who was driving gestured at Meilin with a "weak" gesture, and then stepped on the accelerator.
"Needle Merlin! Just play with yourself."
Amid the screams of young people, the car started at a racing speed, and disappeared in front of Merlin in almost the blink of an eye.
Watching his classmates leave, Merlin shrugged. He didn't care about the sarcasm, but turned around and walked back to the garage. After a moment, the sound of knocking and beating sounded again in the farm.
This young man, Merlin, doesn't like to hang out with his stupid peers.
This boy who had experienced disasters and nightmares at birth was more stable than his peers. Especially in his family, he was forced to move out of Buffalo County due to some rumors related to him. After coming to Madison, Merlin knew better about hiding himself and tried not to let himself be the focus.
He knew that some of the things that happened to him were really hard to explain.
Merlin would rather spend time with her family than spending her time dressing up girls, or simply stay in her farm garage and try to fix the 1962 classic red Chevrolet Corvette.
He called the car "Lola", just like the beautiful car, his girlfriend.
His father promised that as long as Merlin could fix it, the cool car would belong to him.
For Merlin, there is nothing better than Lola's 18th birthday gift. He also plans to drive Lola all the way to New York, where he completes his six-year college life, then become a doctor, find his lover, have a few children, pass on the blood of the Riley family, and spend his whole life like this.
"Merlin! Can you knock and hit the other side sound less? It's only 9 a.m. now! Can't you let me have a good sleep? Even if it's only one day!"
The moment Merlin closed the hood of the front car, the complaining sounded behind him.
Merlin turned around and saw Phil wearing a loose T-shirt and jeans, messy hair and yawning.
That was his younger brother, Philip J. Colson, the son of his adoptive father James Colson, three years younger than him, and a high school student with excellent grades.
"If you can fall asleep on time every day, you should be able to fix Lora every 9 o'clock morning."
Merlin leaned against Lora's hood, put down the wrench in his hand and reached over the towel. While wiping his hands, he looked at Phil.
It was not until Phil began to dodge his gaze that Merlin asked:
"You didn't come back until 2 o'clock last night. What were you doing?"
This sharp question made Phil unable to help but turn his face away, and he muttered:
"I am a healthy 15-year-old young man. I am very handsome and very popular. It's summer vacation again. What do you think I'm going to do? Haven't you experienced puberty?"
"I've certainly experienced it, but obviously my adolescence is not as 'passionate' as you."
Merlin stood up and walked to Phil, looking down at his unyielding brother. After a moment, he sighed and handed the towel in his hand to Phil, he said:
"Wipe the lipstick marks on your neck, don't be seen by my mother, otherwise she will yell at you again."
Phil hurriedly took the towel, looked at the mirror, and wiped the three kiss marks on his neck.
Merlin stood behind him and looked at his younger brother. Phil reflected in the mirror was a typical white American man. He was a little lower than Merlin, with a white and clean face, and his gray eyes were like Merlin. When he pursed his lips, his face felt unexpectedly cold and serious, which also added a lot of points to those stupid girls.
Phil held the numbers and combed his messy hair into a cool one. He had a very popular upward and slightly raised hairstyle in recent years, and then applied hair spray to his hair very coquettishly.
Behind him, holding his arms, Merlin, who was as elegant as a real doctor, spoke again:
"Use less hair spray, that thing will make you more likely to lose hair by 20%. And, I'm curious, have you taken protective measures?"
"What's the name of the girl last night?"
"Damn it! Don't ask such questions."
This series of questions made Phil a little angry. He turned around and glared at his brother, and he said:
"I have more experience than you in these things, so you don't need to teach me. And, the girl last night was either Stacey, Julie, or the girl who moved to Madison. She has half Nordic ancestry and is very exotic. She likes me very much, and I like her very much. If we continue to develop like this, we might really be together in the future."
"etc!"
Merlin interrupted his brother's beautiful fantasy. He walked to the table in the garage, opened the drawer, searched in a stack of letters, and asked without looking back:
"Julie Julie Noyce? It's her, right?"
"Yes, how do you know her name?"
Phil looked at his brother curiously, and then saw Merlin turn around and hold three letters in his hand. The letter had a perfume smell that made Phil very familiar with, which made Phil's face look a little unpleasant.
"Of course I know her, my stupid brother."
Merlin put the letter in his hand in his younger brother with a strange smile. He patted Phil on the shoulder and said softly:
"When she first came to Madison High School, she wrote me three love letters, two letters to Jensen, two letters from Boulder, and other men I don't know, and they are almost all the boys in the entire high school."
"You're not so stupid that you really think that a promiscuous girl will fall in love with you at first sight, right? My brother, since you were 13 years old, you've been making the same mistakes and never made it."
Phil's body was a little stiff, which also brought a warning to Merlin's tone.
"Phil, I don't want to interfere in your adolescence, but you'd better be more restrained. My dad is a high school physical education teacher. He is a decent person in school and the community. Don't ruin my dad's reputation because of some of your bad behaviors. I mean to keep your eyes open in the future. Do you understand?"
"That bitch! That damn"
Phil tore the letter in his hand apart, like an anxious cub. He wanted to throw the fragments out of his hand, but Merlin grabbed his wrist and said:
"Don't swear at home!"
"Clean up, wipe your tears, go back to the house to get dressed, we are going out for dinner today. This is for my birthday, my brother, you won't be absent, right?"
Phil nodded silently, his eyes were red, and it was obvious that the young man was hurt by being played with his feelings again.
But this is the characteristic of young Americans, and no one can escape it.
"Okay, everyone is happy. Today is the day for dinner."
James Colson walked out of the room, tugging at his son while tidying up his bow tie:
"Merlin, the principal told me today that he would invite you to speak as an outstanding graduate. You really make me proud. Compared to Phil, the boy who is not worry-free, you are simply the perfect son. Speaking of which, are you still cryolla? Do you want me to help? It's only half a month before you start school. You haven't repaired it yet. Maybe you need some wisdom from the elderly."
"No, dad."
Merlin, who had changed into casual clothes, walked to the car, opened the door for his father, and helped him into the car, and said to James:
"I've changed Lola's engine, and now there are only a few steps left, and your baby car will belong to me."
"Original engine?"
James widened his eyes, and he looked at his son with a hint of sternness in his eyes:
"Where did you get the money? You won't do something you shouldn't do?"
“I earned it myself.”
Merlin sat in the driver's seat, skillfully fired, pulled the reverse wheel, and in the rearview mirror, he looked at his parents, and while driving the car out of the farm, he explained:
"In the past few summer vacations, I have been internships and working in Rubos' private hospital. Although it has not been enough for the legal standards this year, Rubos still gave me more compensation. Dad, in your eyes, am I just an untrustworthy bad boy?"
"Of course not."
Before James could speak, Merlin's mother Anna Colson stood up from the back seat and left a kiss mark on her proud son's forehead. She said to Merlin:
"My little Meilin is the most powerful, but you are leaving, it really makes my mother sad."
Faced with the trace of sadness that her mother showed, Merlin was about to respond when she caught a figure suddenly appearing in front of the starting car.
Although it was only one glance, Merlin could see it clearly.
He was wearing a black suit, a weird blue cloak, and a black gentleman's hat.
The brim of the hat was pressed very low, making it impossible to see his face clearly. He just stood in front of the car driven by Merlin, as if he was saying hello to him.
The figure was so clear that Merlin subconsciously stepped on the brakes. The accelerated car shook a sudden move, knocking Mrs. Colson, who was caught off guard, into the back seat, and Phil, who was sitting next to Merlin, hit the car window.
There were almost all the people in the car.
"Damn!"
Phil rubbed Hong Tongtong's forehead and roared at Merlin:
"Are you going to kill me?"
