607: Pursue the difference

Bathir suddenly announced his retirement, a year earlier than Link knew about it.

But that's true, Bathir has almost no playing time this season. In the original history, he still has some goals to play in the Heat this season.

Veterans usually choose to retire and choose another way of life if their own strength is no longer available, but there is no financial pressure to keep them in the league.

Moreover, the feeling of winning the Grizzlies and winning the Heat is definitely completely different for Bathir.

Bathil just made up for his personal regret when he won the Heat. He didn't want to leave his hands empty after he retired. To put it bluntly, he felt like he was getting the championship after he got old.

But when the Grizzlies won the championship, Bathir achieved one of his major goals in his life.

Make up for regrets and achieve life goals are two different concepts.

In 1997, Battier, Elton Brand, Williams Avery, and Cory Mageti formed Duke's golden generation. Later, three people outside Battier participated in the 1999 draft and were selected in the lottery area, embarking on a wonderful journey of earning large US dollars.

Only Battier rejected the temptation of money and chose to continue his studies in college. When Battier was asked why he didn't participate in the draft as soon as possible, his answer was "I came to Duke to get a degree and help Duke win the championship. The goal has not been achieved, so how can I be willing to leave?"

It was not until the year of his senior year that Battier finally achieved these two goals and won the NCAA title and a Bachelor of Religion. Battier was a man who was willing to take the cost to achieve his goals and would not give up early.

And when Bathir first entered the league, his goal was to rise with the Grizzlies! Although he had gone a long way, now, Bathir's ultimate goal in his career has been achieved.

Just like winning the championship in NCAA back then, Bathir can leave calmly now.

"You can still fight, Sean." Link was the first to stand up and speak. Although he knew that such a thing was inevitable, when it was time to say goodbye, Link was still a little reluctant.

Bathil accompanied Link for three years and watched Link go from an unknown undraft to a hot superstar in the league now. He is also an important teacher in Link's career path, and he let Link know what a real "profession" is.

Bathir has no outstanding data or dazzling honors. What he left behind is only 8.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. It seems that he can't teach Link anything. You know, Link is now a supernova with historical data averaged 32.1 points, 10.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists in the finals.

But the greatness of some players is not just reflected in the data. What Bathil can teach Link is not as simple as how to play.

For example, in NBA, a place of decay, especially after a lot of US dollars, loyalty is often left behind. Divorce, cheating, scandals, and series are constantly being staged.

But all this has nothing to do with Bathir. He is self-disciplined in life, leaving the gossip media with nothing to gain. He interprets what true maturity and responsibility are.

On the court, he spared no effort to contribute his energy, and did not care about the superficial numbers in the data statistics column. Sometimes, behind Battier's mediocre performance of 5 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist in the game, he completed 21 off-ball blocking, 18 quick transfers, forced his opponent to barely shoot 11 times, and created opponents' mistakes 4 times. As well as countless backup, assisted defense, and switched defenses.

He truly interprets what it means to keep your energy for victory. What it means to play for victory, not for data.

He will not waste his days just because he is old, but will compete and train diligently every day. He regards his teammates as his family and the locker room as a writer. He is a well-deserved locker and the big brother that everyone admires.

These are all things that Bathil could teach Link.

The nickname "President" is the greatest compliment to Bathir's personality charm.

Bathil let Link know what a truly excellent professional player should look like. Just playing well is far from enough. He set a perfect role model for Link, and Link's current professional attitude is also deeply influenced by Bathil.

However, now, such a perfect mentor and friend suddenly wanted to leave, and of course Link's first reaction was to be reluctant to leave.

After all, I have been together for three years and share weal and woe. It is definitely impossible to say that there is no relationship. When I was a fan, Link really had no feelings for Bathir. But now that he has become a teammate, his relationship is different.

"Haha, I know my physical condition myself, Link. I don't want to only get a chance to play in garbage time every game in the future, which means nothing to me. Besides, the Grizzlies have you now. You are truly mature and I have nothing to worry about."

Battier smiled and patted Link on the shoulder. As Espn's article said, Battier must also accept this era.

This era no longer belongs to him.

Afterwards, the rest of the Grizzlies hugged Bathir and sent their most sincere blessings.

Bathir is definitely a respected and loved teammate. Not just Link, most people are actually reluctant to leave.

But at least Bathir got a perfect ending, so everyone didn't make the atmosphere too sad.

After Bathir finished speaking, it was Stevens' turn.

Stevens' achievements this season are unparalleled. He won the championship in the first year of leading the NBA team. The probability of such a thing happening is comparable to winning the lottery.

You know, old coaches like Jerry Sloan and George Carl have been in the NBA for decades and won thousands of games, but they still don’t know what it feels like to win the championship.

In the original history, Steve Cole also won the championship in his first year of leading the team. But before that, Cole himself was a professional player and also served as the general manager of the Suns. He has a good understanding of the NBA.

Before this year, Stevens was completely blank. He had no professional basketball experience as a player or a coach.

Therefore, he has now been called "the most magical and promising coach in the world."

The young coach looked at everyone and smiled bitterly. He loved this team, but just like he left the Bulldogs to pursue another goal. After winning the championship, he also had a new goal.

"I'm saying goodbye too." Stevens was even more shy than Bathir when he said this.

"What!?" Link was stunned. Is there any coach who left the team immediately after winning the championship? Yes, Phil Jackson is like this.

But Phil Jackson is old after all, and Stevens is still very young.

"I had a wonderful time in Memphis and I was very happy to be able to contribute to the championship. But my two children, and my wife, they all want our family to live in Boston. There are better teaching resources and better ones there."

Stevens didn't say it anymore. Although it has improved over the years, Memphis is still not an overly developed city. This is a fact.

Considering his children, Stevens finally decided to go to Boston with his family. Especially when he didn't have much time to spend with his children, Stevens hoped that his children would have a good environment.

He actually discussed resignation with Pera very early, which also shows that his next home is Celtic and will not have direct competition with the Grizzlies.

The forced melon is not sweet, so Pera did not forcefully try to keep Stevens, and readily agreed to Stevens' request.

The reason why it was announced now is mainly to not affect the team's preparations.

After Bathir, the coach is about to leave again. Although this seems a bit incredible for a team that has just won the championship, this is the real situation of the NBA.

Link also knew very well that they would never be the last one to leave. Everyone's pursuits were different, and everyone had the right to choose.

Some people can wander around for the championship, while others only want to be loyal to the team even if they have not won the championship in their lives. Some people are satisfied with the championship once, and then only want to get a bigger contract. While others will continue to move towards higher goals, even if they accept less salary.

Just like in history, Gary Neal left the Spurs for a larger contract, he believed that no matter how many championships the Spurs won, he was not the protagonist, so it would be better to get more money.

Nowitzki, who took the initiative to cut his salary, put the desire to win the championship and his love for Dallas first.

No one is right or wrong in these two approaches, it is just that choices and pursuits are different. A person cannot use his own standards to measure or judge others.

This summer, the Grizzlies will probably see more personnel changes, but Link can understand it.

He doesn't want to destroy the beautiful atmosphere after winning the championship because of these things. No matter who comes and goes, life will continue.

"Okay, don't make it so heavy. No matter where we go, the history we work hard to create will not change! Just smile, we are the world champions! You should think about how to face thousands of fans on the day of the championship parade!"

Pera's words broke the heavy atmosphere. In an instant, everyone's topics shifted to the championship parade.

Link not only has to consider the championship parade, he also has to consider how he has to face the "uninvited guest" at home in the past two days.
