027: You are fired

In the first game of the Rockets, Link scored 5 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist. Although he didn't play much, with the two shots selected as the top five goals, Link was pretty good at the beginning of the NBA.

In the following two games, Link's performance was still pretty good.

The Rockets lost the ball when they played against the Bucks on December 9. However, Link's playing time increased to two and a half points, and he also scored 7 points and 3 rebounds. It is worth mentioning that Link's shooting percentage is 2 of 3 shots, and 6 of them are from outside the three-point line, plus a free throw, which is very efficient.

On December 10, the Rockets played back to back against the Cavaliers. With the exaggerated performance of "The Cricket" Kevin Martin with 40 points, the Cavaliers who lost James were abused and were completely beaten, and the game also entered garbage time early.

Due to the arrival of garbage time, Link was lucky enough to get three and a half minutes of playing time today, with 8 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Link scored such data in less than five minutes of playing time, which is already very efficient.

If it weren't for the time when Link was unlucky and let the basketball slam the frame, Link would have already scored double-digit points for the first time in the NBA.

At this point, after the three games, Link's 10-day contract with the Rockets officially expired. He became more and more famous in Houston, and it can be seen that Adelman has become more and more trusting.

At the beginning, Link should not be within the team's plan. But now, Adelman will intentionally or unintentionally increase his playing time.

After the game, Link returned home with anticipation and prepared to renew his second 10-day contract tomorrow. He was full of confidence in his performance in these three games, and he believed that his performance was enough to keep him in Houston.

However, when Carl Jones came to find Link, the notification he brought was very different from what Link imagined.

"We have to pack up and go back to Oklahoma City tomorrow morning."

"What did you say?" Hearing this sentence, Link's originally happy mood disappeared without a trace.

Of course, his face immediately attracted him. Link was not Duncan and Leonard. He had a clear love and hate, and he didn't like to hide his emotions.

Moreover, he had been holding back to Carl Jones.

From the beginning, the only thing Carl Jones was busy with was to take on him one business after another.

What is the reward for attending supermarket promotions, attending ribbon cutting ceremony of an unknown brand, or even pretending to eat at a restaurant to attract customers, the rewards range from thousands to tens of thousands of dollars are not serious business activities.

Link is not stupid. He knows that this operation is the most beneficial to Carl Jones. Because he can draw a 20% commission for every business activity. Although the amount is not too much, it will accumulate a lot. In just ten days, Carl Jones has also benefited tens of thousands of dollars.

Who doesn’t like to make money like this? Especially for those who are greedy for money like Carl Jones.

Link always thought that Carl Jones would focus on the NBA contract after making enough money, so he didn't care much about him. But now, Jones failed Link's expectations.

Seeing that Link's expression was wrong, Carl Jones quickly explained, "Morey had no intention of letting you stay in Houston. He signed you to attract attention. Now that you have played your role, he will naturally not renew your contract."

Link does not deny Carl Jones' statement. As a time traveler, Link still remembers that in 2018 and 2019, the Los Angeles Lakers also signed a contract with Development League player Andrew Ingram twice. The inspirational story of this older Development League player was very popular in those two years.

But do the Lakers really need Ingram? No. The reason why the Lakers did this was to attract attention with Ingram's inspirational story. Because in those two years, the Lakers' record was really bad. If they didn't make some stories, no one would care about the Lakers.

When the Lakers signed Ingram in the first year, Link felt that the Lakers were humane. But when they did this the next year, Link felt that the hype was a bit disgusting. Has Andrew Ingram really realized his dream? No, he was just used as a hype tool.

So, it is indeed possible that Morey is signing himself for the same purpose. But this does not become an excuse for Carl Jones.

"The Rockets don't have my place, Morey doesn't want to renew the contract, so, except for those damn commercial activities, have you ever fought for me? Have you ever sat in front of Morey and confronted him? Or, from the beginning, you knew that I couldn't stay in Houston. But in order to strive for the greatest commercial value, you still sent me here?"

Faced with Link's questioning, Carl Jones was speechless.

"You said we could create glory together, but I'm disappointed with what you're doing now, Carl."

Just as Link was furious, his cell phone rang. Link hurriedly took out his cell phone, and he thought things had changed.

Maybe Adelman convinced Morey? Or maybe Jordan Hill pleaded for him?

But none of them were. The caller ID was not the name of any Rockets personnel, but from Upshaw's mother.

Link glared at Carl Jones fiercely, adjusted his mood, and answered the phone.

"Marsha, what's the matter?"

"Link"

As soon as the other party spoke, Link felt something was wrong because Upshaw's mother was crying!

Based on previous contacts, Link knew that the Upshaw family was very optimistic. Especially his mother, Martha, always smiled no matter what life was. Even if she occasionally complained to Link, she was just teasing herself.

But at this time, the most optimistic wife Link had ever met, spoke in a crying voice.

"What's going on!? What happened?" Link was a little anxious. As we all know, the crime rate near Upshaw's house has always been very high, and he thought Upshaw had encountered something unexpected.

"It's Zike, he's in the hospital now. I don't know what happened to him. He suddenly fainted during the game and hasn't woken up until now. The doctor said he was."

Martha paused for a moment, as if it would take great courage for her to say this word, "The doctor said that he fainted because of a cardiac arrest and was being rescued. I don't know what to do, and I don't know who to call me."

When he heard the word, Link stood up all over his body. Suddenly, he remembered the small round medicine box that Upshaw always carried with him.

"Don't worry about Martha, I'll buy the nearest flight ticket and I'll arrive soon. Don't worry, Zick will be fine, he's a professional basketball player!"

Link hurriedly hung up the phone, didn't even pack his luggage, put on his coat and was about to leave. His good friend fainted during the game, but he had no time to worry about anything else.

"Where are you going?" Carl Jones was also panicked. He knew that he could not lose the money tree.

"Go back to Oklahoma City, as you wish!" Link answered angrily.

"Oklahoma City? No, Oklahoma City business activities will start tomorrow at noon, we don't need to be so anxious, we're"

Carl Jones's words came to an abrupt end in half because he found that sparks seemed to have appeared in Link's eyes.

"Fuck the business, Carl Jones. You're fired now, you're fucking fired! Hurry up and find your next money tree, don't follow me again!"

After being given up on renewal by the Rockets, Upshaw went to the hospital inexplicably. Link is now upright, and Carl Jones undoubtedly hit the gun.

He swallowed, obviously frightened by Link. He had never seen Link get angry after all the days of contact with Link. But soon, Jones recovered from calmness and showed a disgusting face, "If you want to fire me, you have to pay me a penalty of 50,000, Link! The contract is written in black and white!"

When Link heard Carl Jones say this, he smiled. Now, he completely saw the true face of Carl Jones. This guy never regarded himself as a friend. He was right. He was just a pawn of Morey and Jones.

One of them needs a commission for a commercial contract, and the other needs a "clown" to attract fans.

Seeing Link stop, Carl Jones smiled jokingly, thinking he threatened Link. After all, $50,000 is not a small amount for a poor boy who is fighting the Development League.

However, Link decisively took out the check he had just obtained from the Rockets, then threw it viciously on Carl Jones' face, and spat a spit on his shoes.

"You, a bastard with only money in your eyes, disappeared from my eyes with a check. I can guarantee that you will be killed by money sooner or later! And I am very happy to see that day."

After scolding, Link pulled up the zipper of his jacket and walked out of the rental house.
